You can imagine how well that went over with my first grade teacher.

People are so fake at the end - the tears they shed when they oust people. Oh please. You don't want to go home. Give me a break. Get 'em off and stop pretending you care about anyone else but yourself!

One of my high school teachers (social studies, in fact) took pride in sharing with us how she had taught her grandkids to blow spitballs ... and sent eatch of hem home with a box of straws (one per grandkid).

To this day, I can't write the word "restaurant" without hearing my 6th grade English teacher in her nasal voice drilling the class "REST-A-U-RAAAAAAAANT," after everyone in the class got that word wrong on a spelling test.

Amen. As it appears that teaching will become my profession, I'm already reading some books and some other stuff on tips and hints and theories, etc. Teaching to the test does nothing to help kids in the long run, and I refuse to be that teacher.

Depending on where you teach, you may not have a choice, unless No Child Left Behind is repealed by then.

And why did your post reference Hartmann, when I wrote this? If he gets credit for what I wrote, can I take credit for his (many more and probably more interesting) posts than mine?

My grandmother -- who was a very well educated and dignified lady with a puckish sense of humor -- taught me how to get butter pats to stick to the ceiling.
