watching diners drive-ins and dives, pine state biscuits in PDX. Need to hit that place next time I am there.

As an undergraduate, I carried the Motorola super-radiation brick and used it at my rural college instead of calling cards (nights and weekends were free except that 10 cent per connection charge). 15+ years later, I don't get service at all when I go back to visit with a modern phone.

From what you describe (needing all for status), the answer seemed to be Hilton. More time commuting after sleeping (or not) in a subpar (comparatively) bed equals less sleep.

I ended up booking the first night at the Sheraton. I'll be arriving fairly late Monday night, so it's not like I'm giving up the nicer lounge at one of the other hotels. That gets me a stay credit for both 2009 and 2010, plus 1,000 bonus points.

Tuesday and Wednesday nights are Marriott's. Haven't been there in a while, and I could use those nights toward the fall Megabonus. Status renewal with them is really already taken care of thanks to three trips to Los Angeles, where I always stay in a Marriott that's close to my client. That's 12 nights with those three trips, which is what I need for status renewal. However, any extra nights will roll over to next year. And I need 25 nights for the Megabonus, although that runs into January.

Thursday night will be the Hilton MSY. Early morning flight out of that airport on Friday, and it's decent, and across the street from the terminal. I can return my car the night before and use the shuttles if I want to allow myself an extra half hour or so of sleep the next morning.

Just kicked it down the steps this week. Has a lot more scratches now than it had accrued in years of service previously.

It's been years since I've made a phone last "years." The handset before the current one was purchased in October 2008 and retired in March 2009. I'm bad about wanting new devices as soon as they come out. It's an expensive addiction. Fortunately I try to take very good care of them, and in the case of the less than six month old BlackBerry Curve I retired in March, it was in such great condition that I got nearly all of what I paid for it back when I auctioned it on eBay.

We just finished watching the first three episodes of Glee online. After being told by several friends it was great, and both of us being bored by most of the other stuff we've seen on TV lately, I'm happy to report we finally have another show to add to our weekly record schedule on the DVR.

Just launched the nuclear option on the broken BlackBerry. Backed up my data, wiped the device, and now am going to check and see if the speaker works.

And the verdict is… hardware is broken. Still doesn't work. Guess it's time to call T-Mobile Customer Care and have them send me a new device.

I've actually never had any issues when calling them before. I've had to do a warranty replacement on a phone with them on three previous occasions and all were handled very well, with no real issues.

I wanted to, but it was a team-taught course and my counterpart "forgot" to screen Casino in advance.
