Sewer laterals aren't pressurized and are gravity fed - pushing through that much earth would have resulted in a sinkhole already. :eek:

My sewer line here is pressurized, and a pain, if not vented right it makes for really stinky huge 'backwash' ewwwwwwww

Correction - I live in an area where there's contoured land; of the over 100,000 people in town, just over 200 have pressurized lines due to being at the lowest possible point and having to pump uphill to the wastewater treatment plant.* My house is precisely 490 feet above sea level and 131 feet above the river which is .45 miles away (according to Google Earth).

* Note - having to pump uphill to the treatment plant means "lives in the floodplain".
