As a primarily leisure traveler, you are exactly the sort of  (like myself) who could milk the SPG Plat program for all it is worth (by targeting their phenomenal array of high-end leisure properties for not much money or points). There are low-category, amazing value (both $$$ and points) properties in places like the Western Cape, Khao Lak, Vanuatu, Langkawi, Turkey, etc., that definitely merit :-::-::-::-::-:

Also, if most of your qualifying stays fall on weekends, when all teh biz travelers are home, you will find upgrade rates to be :D

Is it 25 stays for Plat?

I'd have a very good shot at Plat if SPG offers another double stay promo this year. Unfortunately, rumors in the SPG forum seem to indicate that this isn't going to happen. :(

We both got owned by Korean masseuses on our first night in Seoul - I was in pain for a few days after that one.

Soreness after a massage proves that they did their job. Outright pain as in injury-type pain is another argument altogether.

I damn near fell asleep during my beach massage sessions.

I don't need to be massaged on a beach to fall asleep on a massage table. As long as the hands are good, I'll pass out on a massage table in the middle of Compton.

Yes. IIRC, there are some cheapo deals at the Sheraton Suites Rockhill. :-:

I'm curious, what route did you use them on? Do you feel like you got some decent value out of them?

I bought a K fare on BWI-SLC-SFO-ATL-BWI and was able to SWU all but one segment, which did not have any G availability. I am now just waiting for an EUA on that segment as a NW Plat. I needed to go to SFO anyway and, fortunately, the DL K fare was as low as other carriers' fares for my travel dates, so I did not have to spend any extra money to get the upgradeable fare bucket (DL K is the lowest SWU'able fare bucket). I was hoping to use the SWU's for flights to Europe, but DL's lowest upgradeable European fare classes are outrageously priced. One could get a BF sale fare for a few hundred dollars less than what DL wants for an upgradeable coach fare. So, I am trying to use the SWU's wherever I can before they expire.

ETA- If you want to see if SWU space is available for a flight you want to purchase, use Expert Flyer or KVS (or just use the NW or DL sites) and look for G availability. Also, DL operates BE aircraft on certain routes, like transcons out of JFK, ATL-SFO (once daily 763, IIRC), and ATL-LAX (77L that continues to SYD). DL seems to hold back G inventory on those, however, but you still stand a decent chance of an EUA as a NW Plat.

Upcoming buisness travel may facilitate earning Plat without having to do any mattress runs. How many nights is it if you qualify by using nights instead of stays?

We ate Bibimbap for breakfast most mornings at the little restaurants down by the first subway stop on the hotel shuttle. $3 apiece, IIRC. :D

Yeah, Y, B or M fares for international travel on DL are crazy. I'll probably have to either wait for a good international mistake fare in Y, B or M or just use them for domestic travel. They aren't valid until 2/28/2010 and they're good for a year after so I have plenty of time to try and make something work.

I was kind of surprised that I got 6 of them as well - for some reason, I thought Plats only got 4.

Soreness will occur if you don't get massages frequently. Once every other week massages are good.

CO 1E Sep 1, 2009 2:53 pm

Time to go home and pass out for 14 hours. The AeroPr0n might have to wait until tomorrow.
