What a disaster of a day for me. The next day I forced my mother to get a cell phone. :-:

I was on the phone with a customer in Quebec. At one point he told me that he could not continue to diagnose the problem we were working on, as they had had a power failure. A few seconds later the power went off and back on where I was. We did not lose power for more than a few seconds.

Morning Box. This time tomorrow I'll be well on my way to OGG. :-:

Hmm... 6 years ago today I was working in R:rolleyes:C in a building that had a bunch of radio stations in it. The power dimmed but everything stayed on. Internet was down, so didn't know what was going on.

Flew into LGA the next morning and it was an unmitigated disaster. Checked in to the Westin Times Square which looked like a [trendy] refugee zone.

I just booked IAH-ORD-IST(x)-CAI-JNB-WDH(x); WVB-CPT-LHR. Got the A342 on CPT-LHR! :D

Now to figure out how I want to get back from Euroland...

You buy $1 coins for $1 each on a miles earning CC.

You then fret over the shipping and tracking. The order might be canceled or delayed interminably for no particular reason. It might show up in 3 days or in 3 weeks and you won't really know until it happens.

Once they do arrive you then have to take them to the bank and deposit them to pay off the CC bill. Sometimes this is a trivial task. Sometimes the bank refuses the deposit. Sometimes they harass you. Sometimes they require you to open up all the boxes, sometimes the individual rolls, sometimes nothing.

Lather, rinse,

Seriously not worth the effort, IMO. I did a few grand early on and just don't want to bother with it any more. I'll probably use it to hit my AA card churning thresholds - and actually use many of the coins for real spending - but otherwise it is too much work for the points.

That's right -- nothing to see here. This is way too difficult. Please move along. Excuse me for a bit while I step out to make a deposit... :p :p :p

I didn't say it was too hard, just not worth the effort. You've had to deal with the annoyances of held shipments. I don't recall if you've had banks refuse you yet or not, but I have. I suppose it is easier since you have a car and I actually walk mine to the branches to deposit them. Steve Gadfly has to deal with a missed delivery and an outstanding balance on his CC that won't be resolved until the Mint processes the return. There are many potential pitfalls out there.

Still, I don't really think that the effort involved justifies the effort except for a few very devoted folks. I also don't charge my lunch every day even though most of the places take CCs. And I priceline my hotel stays to save money rather than collect points. I guess I'm just not that into the points thing. ;)

Is it just me or could the picture promoting the BF sale on the front-page of co.com be any less appealing?
  • First and foremost the guy looks like he's having a stroke
  • His fists are clenched as if he's really angry he got more than a 4oz. pour of wine.
  • He's much taller than the BF seat, which (I guess accurately) makes the seat look uncomfortable
  • He's scowling

Will we be using spirits to rid him of the demons? Or will it be wine or beer?

We do need to save him, but this one deserves only beer. ;)

Oh, wait, umm.

"Yes, I agree."

All this talk of Wal-Mart being evil keeps reminding me why I need to get out of this town were 2 of the 4 grocery stores are Super WalMarts and the closet good store is 75 miles away.

Good morning, Box. Today's theme is relax and wait for the call instead of pacing like a crazy man on meth.

Just head over to the PC, have a Bailys and coffee, read the morning paper, and relax.

In high school I worked at a golf course arranging carts, cleaning clubs, picking up the driving range, etc. A kid who started after me would take the people's clubs, their tips, and then leave the bag sitting around, later telling me it needed to be cleaned. What he failed to realize was that I had been there for a year and was on good terms with our boss. One afternoon I told the boss about the situation and asked if it would be alright if I just left one evening halfway through the rush. He obliged.

I never knew my cell phone could ring continuously.

LOL.... sounds like a few of the people here at work!

I took the day off for the delivery of my new leather couch (my first couch :-:). I got it and sacked out playing PS2 games. :-: The power flickered, but didn't go off. It wasn't until my then GF (now wife) called me to let me know there were power issues. :D
