Anybody up for FLL-DCA-PHX-PDX-PHL-FLL on 9/19-9/20? 7,286 BIS for 23,679 BD mi for $724a/i (3cpm in F). I just checked usairways.com, and it will sell at least six tickets in F at that price for that itinerary. Arrival in PDX at 04:12pm on Saturday, depart PDX at 08:45am on Sunday (with a 09:30pm arrival into FLL on Sunday night).

Crazy good rental car deal from Alamo. Cars are $10-20 on weekends.

They beat even my incredibly cheap Avis rate in Florida for my trip in September.

That is crazy good; thank you sir.

What are the B:rolleyes:x's thoughts on "unauthorized customer-initiated upgrades" of rental cars at places where they let you pick your choice of car from a numbered area?

I was by myself last weekend and rates were high, so rented a class "2" car. I saw some nice cars over in "5" on my way over to "2". When I got to "2", all I saw was junk, then down on the end was one of the same make of car that I noticed in "5" was parked.

Needless to say, I took it and nobody said boo.

Has anybody just grabbed whatever? Did they send you back? Usually when you go to leave they have only one lane and if anybody is behind you it would be impossible to back out. I am pretty sure they'd just  and let you go. Or could they ding you on the rate?

Wrong or just showing initiative?

I love the hypocrisy there - the NYT makes rookie mistakes with grammar, yet they and their high-horse stylebook insist on acronyms with periods at all times even when the organization itself does not do so (N.F.L., et. al.) and middle initials for everyone, along with a salutation. "Mr. bin Laden" is the one that drives me up a wall. The highfalutin stance they force upon their writers which is not justified by the quality of their journalism drove me away from the Times long before I even bothered to learn about their editorial stances and the treasonous outlook on life that the Sulzberger family has.

Politics aside, I like the "Mr." that NYT and WSJ use when writing about the President. I think that referring to whomever holds that office deserves that title at the very least.

I'm glad that the guy is able to vent and share his frustration. I just worry that all the folks rallying behind him are going to cause him to dig in his heels further, turning a salvageable situation into one that is not so much.

As for whether it is  or not, I dunno. I suppose perhaps not. But it definitely is an eye-opener.

I hesitate to judge or offer advice on anyone else's :-: life. If you give me a couple days, I might be up for it. I need to find out if I have the funds and the ability to raise sufficient replacements.

If the car is parked in my allotted area (e.g. National), I will take it (even if I suspect it was in the wrong line). Christmas last year, there were a mess of small Kias and PT Cruisers in my line, followed by a brand new Saturn Aura XR. Wasn't too hard to make that decision.

Post Ike, no cell or digital phone service in my neighborhood. I had a line (!) of folks waiting to use my land line.

Honestly, if the wind blows around here, my cable (and therefore my internet) go out. Power goes out 3 or 4 times a month. Cell calls get dropped.

Ma Bell, she keeps on truckin'.

Exactly. Because he travels to crapholes for work still means that he is not there. She wants him there at home rather than to be with him on vacation. On that front, it's reasonable. To outright forbid him from getting away by himself, however, is nuts.

Read it again -- his wife doesn't even drive right now. She's starting to learn soon. She's stuck at home and can't easily get anywhere.

Since it was in the Class 2 area, I can live with it.:D If you took it from the Class 5 area, I'd say wrong. No one said you have to study the cars in other classes to make sure you take the right one.

Oh - late racquetball. And I'm down to 209.8 on Day 18 ^ You may recall that 210 was the official cut-off for me to start using Alli (BMI of 27+, assuming 6'2") but I was aiming to get down to 200 anyway ("from the 220's" to be polite).

What's the near-term problem? The next two weeks are highly ceremonial, our rec facility is closed, and I have formal lunch events almost every day ...

Stop beating around the bush. There is absolutely NO excuse for what she did.

Duh. Perhaps my post came out wrong. I was trying to say that a decent person would have either: (a) realized that it was necessary to sit down and work things out that were troubling him/her, or (b) be decent enough to just call it quits, then pursue  at one's leisure.

She chose (c): Lying Whore.

Unless you have Verizon FIOS for everything! Last summer we had a storm where I lost power for 2 1/2 days -- I ended up losing phone & everything. Then Verizon would not give me any credit for the lost service as it was due to a power outage!:rolleyes:

I've wondered this too. Recently, at one agency (I forget which), they pointed me to the lot and told me to take any mid-size (or whatever it was I'd reserved) car. I had no idea which was which. There were no signs, only rows of cars. The only one that struck my fancy was a convertible that I knew wasn't the right category. I took something else. Am I to be responsible for selecting the right size car when they're not even labeled?
