Hmmmm, Bose will be coming out with QC2 replacement tomorrow, dubbed QC15. Can't wait for it to be offered as a Priority Club redemption :-:.

I like my QC2 -- I really despise some of the features of the QC3 -- like the fact that you have to travel with yet another charger. Another charger, another thing to lose. <sigh>

Those choices might drive me to eat at the local Shell station.
Speaking of Red Lobster, some of my colleagues are taking me there next Wednesday for my birthday (a week before my actual birthday; my birthday week was inconvenient for them). I liked the cheesy biscuits a lot more before I looked at the calorie / fat content ... I only eat the tops and that cuts down at least. I am officially caught up (other than the drunken ALCO DC weekend) |
Time for bed, said Zebedee.....
Good night, Box! |

I'm skipping dinner today. Just water. Had a rather large lunch. There is an L&L Hawaiian BBQ near my work in Los Angeles, only my second time there. I found they have an Atkins Super Plate lunch. Two grilled chicken thighs, grilled sliced beef, a slice of short ribs and two eggs (got them overhard and chucked the yolk). No two scoops of rice or macaroni salad which is standard on their other lunch plates.
Oh boy, mouth watering just typing this.

Spencer's Houston
Howdy All:
Last Friday baglady jr had tickets to see the Jonas Brothers at the Toyota Center in teh Pit. A responsible neighborhood young lady volunteered to take Jr to the concert, but I needed to get the pair to the venue, find something to do and then pick them up. The Toyota Center is adjacent to the Hilton of the Americas. So I called the Hilton and asked them about parking. Self parking was not cheap, but they said that if I ate at Spencer's, I could get valet for free. I plan was born. I got the kids and drove to the Hilton where we did the valet thing. I walked them over to the venue, said "bye bye" and walked over to Discovery Green (the new-ish park between Minute Maid and the convention center.) The park was pretty nice and even had a couple of dining/drinking choices. So, I go back to the Hilton and into Spencer's. They were dead and I had no trouble getting a booth. The place was very pretty and laid out nicely. I knew this was a high end steak joint in a hotel and that is would be $$$, but holy cow. Steaks ranged from $34 to $38 dollars. Sides were $8. So, I opted for the $18 hamburger avec frites, grilled asparagus and onion soup. I like change. Change is good. I do not fear change. The onion soup was served on a rectangular plate. The soup crock was on the left. On the right was a grill cheese sandwich; quartered and no crust. There was no cheese in the soup. If you're going to change something, change it for the better! Yikes. The grill cheese was lousy. The soup was fine, but would have been great with some cheese in it. The burger was fine. It was cooked to order, but not very flavorful. I'd give it a B-. Again, fine, but nowhere worth $18. And for $18 they should not scrimp on the fries. The grilled asparagus was amazing. Crisp, smoky and flavorful. A+ Even though I had the time, I skipped dessert. The service was fine. But only fine. The hostess was not very friendly. My server was fine, but I'd only give him a B. At this locale and pricing, I'd expect A service. I overhead him speaking to another table about how they tend to under cook - "if you want it medium rare, ask for it medium." No problem, but if you communicate that to one table, you ought to have communicated it to mine. That being said, my medium burger was indeed medium. So, I got my bill and got my parking validated. No real problems, but not worth the $$$. There are a lot other options nearby, but it did all work out nicely with the concert parking. Instead, I'd recommend their lounge next door. Bar, tables, TVs and you can order food it you want to. I adjourned to the lobby, read and people watched. My phone rang after awhile and I walked over to pick up the girls and drive home. So was a mediocre meal with mediocre service better than having to sit through a Jonas Brothers "concert" (and I use that term loosely)??
I think in the end, it's still a win for you! ^ Huge win. I also didn't have to deal with "event parking" in teh Pit. |
