In a location where USA has had 0 past success. And "0" isn't hyperbole.

Minty Fresh? Not quite

Well, I'm oficially in US Mint hell. I placed my first order a couple weeks ago for $2500.00 (figured I'd start off small). I knew I'd be away when UPS came to deliver it so I called and told them to hold the shipment at the warehouse. When I got home, I found the 3 delivery attempt stickers on the door and called UPS to find out where to pick up the packages. Turns out that since my request to hold them was made before the first delivery attempt, everything was sent back to the shipper.

I called the mint to have them just turn the packages around and send them back out to me with the same tracking number. The mint says they have to accept the coins back into inventory, credit the charges, and re-submit the order from scratch. The total expected time for this to happen is 4-6 weeks. That means I've got a $2500 charge on my card that won't be credited by the time my bill is due and I've got no coins to deposit to make the payment.

Once this whole thing is over, I think I'll make sure I'll be home when the next order is supposed to come.

:td: to a 3 hour delay of today's World Cup qualifier.

Is the game actually delayed or just the telecast? We're streaming something here at work.

Tape delay for English telecast on the west coast.

Hi!

I've just had the worst travel experience of my life - well, perhaps next worst compared to sleeping in ATL overnight that one time.

Everything went SWELL until I got to SNA. My very first lost bag! First time I check 3 bags and CO decides I should only check 2 and thus only delivers 2 to SNA. An hour of my life is wasted waiting around the belt and then filing the claim and being told to not panic until it doesn't show up in the afternoon. Okie..

I go out to get my car from long term parking. I get lost looking for an elevator in the parking garage and eventually find my car. The stupid rental-kart doesn't give me my quarter - stupid stupid kart thingy. I sit down, relax, and try to start the car.. with no success. Not even a sound. It's deader then dead.

I pop open my hood, check the connection, try again... no avail. I leave the hood open and look around - I swear there were somehow suddenly tumbleweeds. I was utterly alone there. I seek a "call for assistance" phone - none exists at SNA. I look at the parking pass/ticket and it has a phone number! The phone number doesn't list the area code and i don't know the area code for SNA. I wander back into the terminal, looking for an information desk for the airport itself, and none appears to exist. I give up and return to my car and call AAA. Thank God for AAA.

AAA rescues me, however now every warning light in my car is on. Too bad the AAA guy drove off.. I drive around cautiously, as the AAA guy said my battery needs replacing but I'm fine to drive- and I can always call him back. Did you know AAA response time in CA is 30mins? It's 2 fricken hours or more in Florida. Anyways, I drive around and decide upon finding an autoparts store to try turning my car off and back on.. it survived.

So, now i'm home. I feel very lucky considering that I know absolutely no one here yet aside from professional contacts - not exactly people I want to call and beg to come save me at the airport. My check engine light is on, i'll figure that out later.. and now I get to sit around and wait to see if my bag comes in on the next flight from Houston.

True dat, and i got a warm croissant - which is really a crescent but I digress..

Is it EUA or EAU? I never remembered, except one is the french word for water..

Thinking back, I rescind my "worst" comment. ATL overnight was definitely worse as was the pseudo-crash into TPA (really hard landing), the stuff falling out of the bins turbulence flight, the train car with no air from Paris to Venice, and finally the dreadful boat from Venice to the airport that took 3 hours on choppy water at 3am.

I do think, aside from the horrible turbulence, that this is near the top of my "panic" incidents though. As much as I whine, it's difficult to ruffle my feathers enough that I don't have a game plan or alternate.
