Fortunately we're not that bad. And our internal travel policy is fine when it comes to hotels. The problem is we have a few spineless project managers who won't stand up to clients who pull this crap. This is a state institution in Texas. The state of Texas has a negotiated hotel rate of $85-110, depending on location. My client is paying the state rate at this hotel, so it's not like it's really saving them any money. They just don't know better, and we have a project manager on this account who won't stand up to them and insist that we pick where we stay, with the understanding we won't charge more than the state's hotel rate back to the client, so that it doesn't cost them anything extra.

You hiring for a PM? :D Seriously, sounds like a bad deal. Take those staff members out for a beer and train them properly. :) A buck or two is not anything to sweat over. I hear you.

She scrubbed the bathroom with bleach, hung the new shower curtain (the old one was covered in mold), and then brought the manager up to her room to show her what a clean bathroom should look like.

I didn't know we worked together ;)

LOL. You and this consultant would probably hit it off quite well. Unfortunately she's no longer with us. I miss working with her.

I wish. Unfortunately this particular one is a source of great stress in my work life, and I've yet to encounter one of our employees, or one of our clients, that liked her. I even had a client ask me last year (quite seriously), "Is she on drugs or just stupid?" Somehow she has managed to survive quite a few layoffs, and we're still stuck with her.

As for the beer, in this part of Texas, there's a 75% chance that taking people out for a beer will result in me being asked to leave the project and/or a prayer vigil being held to save my poor, corrupted, alcoholic soul.

SSullivan - please don't be irritated. I downright refused to travel for my new company. Those that did ended up in either *dorms* or hotels that were less than $30 a night and were hotbeds of prostitution. When they ask me to travel, I will be forced to quit. That is how bad some companies can be.

I would freak. Absolutely freak.

I had to go to NYC last minute mid Dec. and had to stay at a disgusting hotel (still around $250 and this was a few years ago), no points, and I sat up all night. I had an early flight the next morning and couldn't even use the shower it was so disgusting.

I love my dr., I really do and I've been happy with her for the past 6 1/2 years; however, today she called me back on her way home with her kids in the car. I don't know if she had my chart with her (guessing she did) but she prescribed something that has the generic for Benadryl in it. I read all the warnings when Plus1 brought it home and popped one. I now know the generic name for Benadryl and I guess I need to look up everything I take. I am not allergic to Benadryl, but it does some weird things to me, including totally wiring me (whereas it makes most people sleepy). The last time I took it was over 20 years ago and I was up all night despite being very tired. It appears I may have a similar issue tonight. I am , but also chastising myself for not paying more attention. The close captioning isn't working on our TV right now either, so I can watch in silence or go into the other room. Sigh.

Diphenhydramine.....it is in a lot of pain relievers and allergy meds, both prescription and OTC.
My mom was having severe back pain and one of the meds that would help was percogesic extra strength, she found out it was basically tylenol and a half a benadryl and started taking it on her own like this, and it cost a lot less.

Yep, that's the one. Added it to my drug info as something I shouldn't take (but not an allergy). I feel so weird. I guess it'd be a cheap high for someone who actually enjoyed feeling this way, but I hate it.

Just another city to fly into by myself so I can rent a car and go to work

Actually, for that trip I was working in Vero Beach....the only time I spent in Orlando was on Tuesday night when I stayed near the airport for my 7-something flight to DCA the next morning.

Headed to JAX for a couple days next week.

baglady Aug 11, 2009 2:25 am

Hooray. Finally feeling sleepy. Good night, box.

KNRG Aug 11, 2009 5:19 am

Good news - my first flight cleared into F and my second had an open exit row, and they both serve food.

This is much better then my entire trip to FL, which had no food and nothing cleared.

Plus I get that 3rd bag I need to schlep my remaining belongings to CA. Who knew I owned so many winter coats?
