We made bacon ice cream last summer. It was actually rather tasty.

This weekend we whipped up a batch of olive oil ice cream, based on a recipe from Ecco, a local restaurant (we tried the ice cream there, asked for the recipe, and they gave it to us!). Ours didn't turn out quite as good as theirs, but it's close. It has a nice flavor, and has bits of chocolate covered fleur de sel (moist sea salt) and a chocolate swirl in it. Good stuff, although hard to make.

Who knows. I have yet to stay at a hotel where the client has set up a direct bill arrangement where it was a good experience.

Funny thing is I have another client in Texas that has done the same thing recently, telling us we had to stay at a Comfort Inn that they've set up a direct bill arrangement with. In that case we had been staying at a brand new Holiday Inn Express that was great. I'm scared that in a couple of weeks I'll go there on my first trip since they came up with that new policy and find something similar.

I'm quite tempted to show that picture to our project manager, but unfortunately, she's pretty useless.

I've had it with clients mandating where we stay in order to save them a few bucks. This is my first trip to this client, and I'll be here quite often over the next two years. They insist we stay at a Holiday Inn Express that's about 10 years old, despite there being a brand new Hampton Inn and Suites that's right next door, charging virtually identical rates.

This is my shower. That's all I'm saying about this place.

Definitely worth a visit. I'd suggest renting a car and having middle eastern food. (Yes, seriously, it was really damn good).

I finally made it to YVR. I need a nap.

Actually, it's usually the Virgin Mary. Which then results in a story on the 6:00 PM news, a shrine in the front yard, and said tortilla being listed on E-Bay.

She was the star of a tour at JSC today. We took the Historic Mission Control tour.. after the woman narrated what happened w/ Apollo, she asked, "Any questions?" The room was silent for a second, then Alyssa piped up with some LOUD, happy babble and a joyous scream. Everyone in the room lol'd.:D Got lots of compliments about her as she just kept smiling all day long.^

SSullivan - please don't be irritated. I downright refused to travel for my new company. Those that did ended up in either *dorms* or hotels that were less than $30 a night and were hotbeds of prostitution. When they ask me to travel, I will be forced to quit. That is how bad some companies can be.

I had a coworker stay in a hotel that was so bad once, and the front desk was so unresponsive to her complaints about the nasty bathroom, that she went and bought a bottle of Clorox, some gloves, a sponge, and a new shower curtain. She scrubbed the bathroom with bleach, hung the new shower curtain (the old one was covered in mold), and then brought the manager up to her room to show her what a clean bathroom should look like.

We never were forced to stay at that Ramada Inn again by the client. I think that particular consultant was also asked not to return to the hotel by the hotel's management.

Fortunately I never had to stay there, because this happened before my first trip. It was in a very small, remote town, with very few hotel choices.

Fortunately we're not that bad. And our internal travel policy is fine when it comes to hotels. The problem is we have a few spineless project managers who won't stand up to clients who pull this crap. This is a state institution in Texas. The state of Texas has a negotiated hotel rate of $85-110, depending on location. My client is paying the state rate at this hotel, so it's not like it's really saving them any money. They just don't know better, and we have a project manager on this account who won't stand up to them and insist that we pick where we stay, with the understanding we won't charge more than the state's hotel rate back to the client, so that it doesn't cost them anything extra.
