On the topic of job hunting - i realized earlier today just how inane and silly "applications" are with most companies, and further how even more ridiculous it is that HR needs these forms filled out for everyone.

I have a job - I didn't intend to have a job, rather just a position to study in a grad program, but apparently working/teaching is part of the higher education. So I actually am working for the University in an official manner, like higher then a TA but not a real professor.

So I have to fill out these forms for HR knowing full well that I have the position and any information I put down is entirely irrelevent. It's not nearly as bad as all the paperwork I had to fill out when I worked for Disney (of which I still keep the carbon copies because the Mouse meticulously words things and specifically mentions my legal responsibility to them even after leaving the company) but still excessive and silly.

I really felt like making up silly names for previous supervisors (cuz many of them I honestly dont recall - I usually work for a company, not a "person" per se) and reasons for leaving past positions, like "Couldn't stand the drapes" or "Not enough cowbell."

I will check that out as well, thanks.

I'm at the Market Center property. Who am I to argue with $79 per night? :)

I really, really like meat. Steaks are great, as are pork chops. COFlyerCLE's offering of Bob's Steak & Chop House was a great one and it looks like a winner, but I am open to other ideas. I'm fairly familiar with Dallas insofar as geography is concerned but I haven't done anything in the way of fine dining there, and my wife is adamant that she be allowed to do something nice for me.

Hi Everyone,

Was just wondering if anyone here works in advertising. I've been a sales manager for a tech magazine and website for several years and lately the place is becoming miserable (bouncing paychecks, running out of basic things like office supplies, etc.). Anyone else in media? Anyone know of any companies looking for someone with sales skills? I'm open to other fields where my skills could be utilized. I need to jump this quickly sinking ship. Feeling nervous about where things are going.

PM me if you have any ideas. Thanks for your help.

I am not in the field but I am currently searching desperately for a job and I have seen a lot of offerings on Craigslist here in the AUS area for advertising/sales type stuff. So if you like AUS (and who wouldn't?) it may be worth looking into.

Del Frisco's in Dallas is good; anywhere else not so much!

$80 a night is always a good rate to be found. I'm on a $81 a night stay (AAA rate instead of government) with a coupon for another $50 off per night from Hyatt.

A colleague and I are going to scope out the W rooftop after work.

How do I get a google voice number?

And, on the topic of me not being able to send e-mails from outlook, Mr. Brit is in biiiiiiiig trouble.

After i snooped around a bit earlier, trying to fix my problem, I decided to just turn all the boxes off and see if I could jump start everything. Well, you know I am not very technologicial, so if all else fails ....

So, what do I find? I find a new black box. Yes, a new black box, all shiny and bright with lots of pretty blue lights and all that. Looks like a sleek new boy toy......

So, being the smart little cookie that I am, I figure it is one of those router thingies (thanks, sbm12 for giving me the correct terminology :D) and that obviously has to be the answer to all my problems.

I put a call in to mrBrit. (Now, bear in mind that he did this to me once before, changed a box and screwed up my access). he took rather a long time to reply to my text .... but, he just sheepishly admitted that he installed a new router on Tuesday while i was in SAT, and (in his words, I think this is what he said) "the firewall is locked down tight, so maybe I'll need to loosen it a bit for you".

Well, thank you very much, Mr.Brit for giving me heartburn all day. Little stinker. Good thing he's so good looking and a great daddy to our girlies or else it would be off with his head!

Anyway, hopefully, tomorrow I shall be productive again.

Now, I'm off for a martini to cheer myself up. It has to be 6pm somewhere in the world. :p

Plus1 and I thoroughly enjoyed III Forks; there is also a Pappas Bros. Steakhouse and while I haven't been to the one in Dallas; the one here is ^. There is a Craft there; again I haven't been to the Dallas one; but have the NY and Vegas and it's always been good. More later - out the door for a while
