Can it be Sunday morning yet? Marriott Vacation Club sent an interesting offer for Palm Beach Shores. |

Help! I need the collective brains of the techie people iin the Box.
I have a problem with sending my e-mails. Everything was fine until this morning. I haven't done anything different. So, here's the problem. I use Outlook 2007 and I send my mail using gmail. I am receiving mail just fine, but everything i sent today is still sitting in my outbox and i keep getting an error message: - Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).' I went to the gmail site and walked thorugh the help section (which is meh to someone like me who has zero techie understanding) and I did the "telnet" step that I found in the help section, and it tells me it cannot establish a connection. Yet, I am still receiving mail. how can that be? If it can't establish a connection, how come I can still receive mail into my inbox? I now have a stack of important emails sitting in my box waiting to go out and I'm stuck! Anyone have any suggestions about what i can do? |

He's too obvious a choice. The powers that be would never allow it. It would be like colpuck applying for a position in DL Revenue Management.

What is set as your outgoing SMTP server? Who is your ISP? If you're trying to send mail via gmail and your ISP blocks outgoing SMTP connections you're not going to be able to send. Different ISPs have different policies.
Would that happen overnight? Everything was fine until i tried to send this morning, and I haven't changed anything. ISP - would that be verizon? We have verizon DSL. (Sorry, I have zero clue about things like this, I leave it all up to Mr.Brit - yeah! yeah! I know, i should pay more attention, but what can I tell ya!!!) |
It looks like an:eek:ther order of US Mint love is on the way :p :p :p

Also, if you use a different SMTP server, some ISPs block access to certain ports (like 25) and so moving around using different networks may cause different results.

Something happened with Gmail in the last week or so that screwed up outgoing accounts.

I am comparing it with my settings, and I see that my incoming mail is pop.gmail.com, yet on this page it says it should be imap.gmail.com What's the difference, and why would it have worked yesterday with pop but not today? |

Verizon used to be notorious for restricting outbound SMTP traffic. I have no idea what their current policy is. Since you can not telnet to port 25 of the site you are trying to send mail via, you should check where the restriction is. It's either local (software on your PC) or your ISP.
The issue that causes most ISPs to  is when people have a Gmail address but try to use the ISP SMTP server (relaying). |

I had a very  travel day yesterday. Delayed in SAT for two hours, and then spent the entire flight (in Y,) sitting behind a family whose 2 year old wailed for the entire, yes, entire flight. I cannot believe that child did not wear himself out and fall asleep. It was, after all, an evening flight. He had a very high pitched wail and shriek that lasted 3 and a half hours. Aaaaaaaaaagh!
Fortunately, having "been there, done that: with my eldest daughter, I had a lot of empathy for the poor Mom. She was doing everything she could to keep him quiet or get him to sleep, but he wasn't cooperating. She was frazzled. i have a very good ability to block out noise like that. I bury myself in a crossword, or a book, and just don't hear it for long periods of time. others, on the other hand, were getting very exasperated.

What's the difference, and why would it have worked yesterday with pop but not today? The settings your concerned with are outgoing mail and the Advanced tab. |
