No upgrades and 250 points for a plat amenity.

I like element more that aloft, but aloft is cool too ^

I guess the noise issue varies by property...the only one I've seen so far is at PHL and while, sure, the lobby is club-esque, I couldn't hear a bit of it from my room. Then again, a) I can sleep through ANYTHING and b) I like the aloft/W vibe. Particularly if the alternative (in same category/price) is a generic Sheraton, as it often is at airports...

Call me old fashion, but I wouldn't marry someone who wouldn't take my last name.

I don't know what the percentage split is among my male friends on this opinion - I'd venture that it splits fairly heavily by field...I am in the performing arts, remember :)

How is it? Staying there in 2 weeks. I've stayed at Grande Ocean the past five years, but bf and I thought we'd try something new. Stayed at the one in Palm Desert - very nice. Is Surfwatch actually on the ocean? It looks like a bit of a walk.

We stayed at Grande Ocean the first year (just renting to check the place out before buying). Surfwatch is very close to the beach - anywhere from a 2 to 5 minute walk, depending on what building you are in (and it's all on private boardwalk, etc.) We're in a "partial ocean view" building. The rooms are quite nice (this property's only a few years old).

The Grande Ocean pool is definitely better, though this one's fine. Anything else in particular that you'd like the dirt on before you arrive? :)

Perry of Texas talked about secession. If you don't like Obama, you should have voted for the other guy. If the other guy wasn't good enough... well, that's your own damn fault for nominating him.

I'm getting too OMNI here. When states talk secession, it boils my blood. Why don't they become the province of Quebec, Canada? They want to secede as well.

I'm like that too. But... my wife has kept her maiden name. As a physician there's a lot of paperwork/licenses/hoops to jump through to change a last name and keep working as a doctor. She told me, if she wasn't in this field she would change her last name. She thinks it's kind of sad that her husband and daughter have the same last name and she does not. So, I let her take a pass. She'll still go by Mrs. photog72 on here. ;)

She gets a pass. Almost all my drs. are females and I know they have the name that they went to medical school with. Women have to deal with so much more than men when the marriage happens.

Yup....EUA cleared about 4 days prior...not bad for a 735. The climbout from JAX was nasty and there was pretty strong chop during the first part of meal service but things smoothed out eventually. Very cool lightning display out the left windows.

And yes.....the DL club in JAX has really good dried fruit so I took a cup of that. Does it count??

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! I really appreciate it. Of course sitting in the Crown Room in JAX wasn't the way I planned on spending it but I guess  happens. Ms. GadFly and I will be going to dinner tomorrow night to celebrate my 37 years on this earth. :-:

I know all the Lasik Plus doctors on the east coast very well in addition to quite a few others in the company (I serve as their clinical rep and trained most of their technicians). I posted further up in the box about Lasik....if you do a search, you should be able to find it. Let me know via PM if you have any questions about it and we can talk.

I ask of you, what would the Box do?

The St. Regis Washington, D.C.
OR
W Washington D.C.

I am thinking of going down 8/21 to 8/23

Agreed - there are certainly some professions where keeping one's name in tact is pretty important. I guess I'd just never marry a doctor. :)

There is a pool bar, right? That's all I care about ;)

This is teh box, right? ;)

Good to know it's so close. We have an ocean view booked and hoping as a plat they'll honor that (mvc can be weird).

Good to know the beach is so close. How is the beach there compared to Grande Ocean? Are there kids running all around (we're escaping our own sooo..........)

Well, I didn't vote for the current POTUS so.......
I also didn't vote for the guy who ran against him (in the primaries) but . . .

Omni hat off

I'm a bit late, but I'll throw in a belated Happy Birthday anyway! :)

I feel your pain - in college, weather related cancellations forced me to spend my 21st birthday at a DTW airport hotel all by myself.

Don't worry, we all have (at least) one of these in our past. :)

You mean a ::shudder:: or one who grew up to bat for the other team? Yup, I've got both (well, if in the latter case you count the multi-year high school crush who was always SO NICE to me but never seemed to get the hint...:p)

Of everyone I know that has a preferred side-of-plane, it's ALWAYS the port side. Wonder why. I'm not sure how much I care, but I've found myself over there a disproportionately large percentage of the time, just arbitrarily. I should actively seek out some starboard seats in the near future just to see if it makes a big difference to me.

Any D/F fans out there?

My last two visas have been 1 year. I would love a 2 year, but since I'm not a diplomat (yet ;) ), I don't know that I can. I've had a Chinese visa for 15 years running now.
