My father knows Gene. They were born in the same city in Israel, though my father is 10 years older. They never met in Israel. They met when my father was visiting me in Philly and I worked at the NBC station there and Simmons came to promote "Family Jewels" at our station, and my father happened to be there that day. My father knew he spoke Hebrew, so I was able to introduce him, and they talked about people they knew in Israel. Pretty cool and a small world.

I need my passport for Zurich in late Sept. I guess if I renew now, I should get it back in time for that. I think I will get on that.

I am going to ask for a 24 month multi entry visa for China since it is the same price and I will be back in April 2010 and Jan 2011.

Good luck with that. It's your first VISA, right?

The Crazy Crab in Harbour Town. Crowded, but good (I love the idea of "hushpuppies as bread basket" :) )

Tomorrow I'm going on the sales presentation for Marriott Vacation Club (now that I'm old enough/employed/etc.) Not planning on buying anything right now, of course, but it will be good to check out the options and learn more about this whole enterprise. Plus, they give you either $100 in gift certificates or 10K Marriott points (not sure which I should take - SPG's my primary hotel chain but these might come in handy sometime...?). Should be interesting.

Where are you staying? Crazy Crab is good for vacationers ;)

I love the Eagles.

Thanks for the warning! Our house is already wired for the system, so it's just a matter of having the service activated (and maybe 2 new keypads since the old ones are definitely old). We'll have to see who is compatible with all of our hardware and go from there. I appreciate the head's up.

ADT has been great for us.

At least there's free wi-fi in the terminal ^ so I can book a hotel room if this flight doesn't go.

My home town. Mom and dad would have had you over for dinner! Where are you staying?

Because it's my hometown - hello!

Why grudgingly? It's a fun show.

Plot twist! Individual has been led to believe she's actually smuggling something illegal that's not drugs. Of course, she's smuggling drugs ...

That is pretty cool. I never wanted to like any form of celeb-reality, but I found that Gene's show and The Osbournes were both interesting to watch.

ETA: I guess this works as an answer for baglady's question, too. ^

Do it now and pay for the rush service. They don't check things as stringently when you do that. Well at least they don't at the Houston consulate.

Just don't talk to the Falun Gong people outside; you're on camera.

Baglady was able to finagle up to a free night and then sent her parents to attend. ^

My brother-in-law is one of the DC-based visa expediters - he could have one delivered by the end of the week but it would costly ... Lots of marketing expenses.

Houston is hoping to host the World Cup in 2018 or 2022 if the U.S. gets the bid. I can't say that I'm excited about this. I remember what they did to prepare for the Super Bowl, like planting trees randomly along the freeways to cover up the ugliness.

Well, if they keep planting randomly, they'll eventually get full coverage. :p
