I had to go to EWR last night. The weather was absolutely disgusting.

It's quite nice this afternoon, though.

Sadly I'm sick today and thus can't enjoy too much of this lovely weather.

I don't know how to respond to this.

Is it more perturbing that I'm watching HGTV or that Keyshawn is apparently a licensed interior designer?

For the record, HGTV is great. My favorite takeaway from HGTV is Vern Yip. I don't like what he does professionally, but he has the greatest name to play with.

"What's wrong with you?"
"The doctor called. It's bad news."
"Yeah. I've got a case of Vern Yip."

That project did take a very long time to finish. I always wondered what AA was thinking. I wonder if it had anything to do with the slot restrictions at JFK at the time.

The SYD flights don't seem to be doing too well. One day advance purchase for LAX-SYD under $600. The flights are going out weight restricted and they have developed the UA syndrome of being late. Last Sundays flight was three hours late.

If the LAX-SYD loads don't pick up during the Southern Hemisphere winter, I think DL will pull the route early next year.

I don't think I can make that computation.

Honestly, I think before they pull the route they'll reduce it's frequency.

They've already gone from daily to 6x a week. I wouldn't be surprised if they go down to 2-3x a week to see if it gets any better.

But, it does raise the question if one should buy a ticket, for say, January and hope they drop the flights so you have to be reaccomodated on UA or QF.

When they feel like exercising their authority (insert Cartman badge here) and closing down a security checkpoint due to a "breach" they would possibly have to shutdown the entire airport.

Additionally, at JFK, i'm not sure if the land they have would efficiently accommodate such a design.

The only way a one-terminal concept works is if passenger screening is done at the gate as it is at AMS. TSA would never let that go here, as that would provide human beings way too much room to roam and probably increase the need for things like good signage. Perish that thought. Also, this stupid society we have permitted the rise of in this country is so scared of being sued and getting "offended" will lead to a huge backlash over gate-side screening because inevitably stupid people will not be able to find their way around a logical layout like AMS, and someone will say that an interior design is inherently biased, racist, or somehow bothersome to some otherwise meaningless lobby or interest group.

It is certainly possible to delete the layout of JFK in a computer program and attempt to AutoCAD an entirely new design. It would be a hell of a lot of fun to import the airport, delete everything, and attempt to create one building that serviced all needs.

I don't even think they knew. They busted our buts to get it the redevelopment project done and I suppose they realized they didn't have the funding for such a massive project so back in 2000 they decided to slow it down. I honestly think they would have cancelled the construction after 9-11 if they weren't so far along at that point. Just a side note, building anything at JFK is a nightmare because of all of the stuff buried under ground, most of it disused.

With the cost of ground ops in SYD, I wonder if it is worth operating the route only 2-3x a week.

Either way, I think DL's struggle is mostly due to the bad timing of their launch. With V Australia (who, from what I've heard is actually doing OK) starting around the same time, the market became way too saturated. Without 3 other carriers, I think DL could have done OK, even with the 77L weight restrictions.

DL owes it to themselves to push through for one southern hemisphere summer, so I doubt we'll see the route go away before January.

Am I the only one that doesn't like the design/layout of AMS? It was early in the morning and I didn't get much sleep the night before, but I didn't like the place at all.

Now that they have that new agreement with them, anything is possible.

Same for me. I got in at 6am CET and had hardly slept on the flight over. IMO, the logic of the design is nearly impossible to argue with. Gate-side screening, the train station, the shopping, etc. makes it one of the few airports that I am looking forward to go back to solely for the experience of transit.

I'll have to talk to my friend about that. I do know the director of original programming.

Did they deploy their own ground-ops folks? I'd imagine they would just contract someone locally to handle all of it.

Agreed, but DL has also been very quick to pull out of markets even before they launched. JFK-EZE is still listed as "suspended". Really, if they don't get any solid bookings for the Northern Hemisphere winter by Nov, i wouldn't be surprised if they are pulling it by Jan/Feb.
