:mad::mad::mad:

How do you know they were Silvers and not Platinums and Golds who hadn't been upgraded yet, because the seats weren't all released until the day before the flight? I've had plenty of EUAs as a Platinum that cleared at the Silver window.

You're right, they certainly could have been. However, in this came they certainly seem like Silvers because it's PBI-EWR, I was upgraded at +5 days on a W fare, no one appeared to be upgraded at +4 days, a few Golds were upgraded at +3 days and no one seemed to be upgraded at +2 days. After +3 days, the exit rows were empty. I should not jump to the conclusion that they are Silvers, but in this case it seems pretty likely...

I was thinking the same thing - both of my UGs as a Gold this year came at the Silver window; it's all when award-eligible inventory gets released.

That does sound pretty likely.

But CO does have to throw a bone to the Silvers every once in a while. :p

It would be really nice if the Platinum companion upgrade worked like NW does/did it. Allowing the companion to upgrade at the same time as the elite member for Platinums would add a lot of value to the companion upgrade benefit.

I don't mind if they throw a bone to Silvers every once in a while, but at least leave one seat open until boarding for either a last minute Plat/Gold purchase or a Plat/Gold companion.

Don't get me started on how CO should do their companion upgrades... ;)

Good gravy. Between that friend and the one that works for Miss Universe or whatever, I have come to the realization that I need friends with better careers.

Careful. I was almost castrated for suggesting this about a month ago.

Methinks Teh Box might like to assist our fellow FTer Canarsie Win a Contest to Antarctica. Karmic give-back after dominating the AMS thread for PWP glory sounds like a net ^

I don't have a horse in the race, but if CO permitted companions to take up that F seat at booking, I would imagine that such an action would piss off a good number of Plats who would be missing out on upgrades to potentially non-status peons like me. If you look at it like that, CO has every right to make companions difficult to upgrade because they have a vested interest in giving away F to the largest amount of the right passengers, not half the right passengers and their companions.

Duct?

Let's look at my collegiate friends and their employment status...
  • Logistics manager at a mail-order trophy shop (not brides)
  • Procurement manager for construction company
  • Sales at a major network
  • "Freelance" editor (read: unemployed)
  • Teacher
  • Unemployed
  • Works for Sesame Street (which actually sounds kinda cool)
  • Another teacher
  • Auditor for company that process ATM transactions across networks
  • Perpetual Student

When did we all get so old and boring. Poo.

By the way, you doing BOS this weekend or the following? (I have trouble comprehending "next" weekend. Every time I assume I know which one the person is talking about, I always get it wrong.)

I hope to escape this purgatory for good by next Spring. Being a student was fun when that was all I had to do. When you combine it with full-time employment and a long-distance marriage, there are almost not  enough to describe it.

You're looking at this completely wrong.

CO is trying to sell seats in F. They don't want to give anything away. The real question is which is worth more: the loyalty of a Plat and their companion or the loyalty of a displaced lower-tier elite?

US / NWA think the loyalty of upper tier always trumps. CO doesn't. Chalk it up to philosophical differences.

I just wish CO wouldn't make their companion upgrade process SO INSANELY STUPIDLY COMPLEX AND POORLY ADMINISTERED. (see, here I go again... please, save me from this.)

I never really found being a student fun. It was the drinking and associated debauchery that filled the time between classes to be fun.

My perpetual student friend is working on her second JD.

Sounds familiar. I did a B.A., then an LL.B., then a Dip.LP (Diploma in Legal Practice), and am now just 25 credit-hours away from a J.D.
