Back to the MBP HDD selection question...my music and video with important documents currently live in one master folder that weighs in at just under 38GB. The iPod, as said, is a 160GB model. My photos are broken down by year, and the 2007 folder is 5.72GB, 2008 is 8.08GB, and 2009's folder is on pace for about 8.5GB. HDD choices are 250, 320, and 500. Looking at the numbers as I type them, 500 seems like the way to go...one can never have too much empty disk space, and it gives me freedom to sync certain stuff on or off the iPod. For some bizarre reason, I'm enjoying overthinking this.

personally, I'd just go get a seagate freeagent go, requires no extra power and slimline even looks like a MBP, or MBA depending on model, and then no worries! I carry one with me in my laptop bag and one in my carry on.

If he's going to be reading/writing from the drive a lot, I'd suggest an internal drive with a faster speed (7200rpm).

I was talking about the the 'extra' stuff, the music, photos, etc, external drives are ideal for that. They take a lot of space and in many cases are not used daily.

For backups I'd say it's fine, but like I said earlier in the thread, I keep my music on an external drive and it's pretty annoying to have to plug the thing to resync my iPod or add music to the library.

I would very much advise against storing photos externally unless you are just doing it as a backup. If you intend to edit the photos on the external drive, you run the risk of corrupting the file or the library (using software like Lightroom). Now, you can always use the external drive to store the photos, pull the photos to the local drive, edit them, and then export them, but that just seems excessive.

I don't typically keep my music on my laptop itself, desktops are much more economical to be a packrat!

Holding off on the B&H run for now. A little moving of stuff around and I can get my Canon P&S (4 AA battery type) into the one pocket along with the DSL and the extra zoom lense. I'll wait until I get a net book to see what I really need in a new bag.

If you are obsessive-compulsive, press one repeatedly.

If you are co-dependent, have someone press two for you.

If you have multiple personalities, please press # 3, 4, 7, & 2.

If you suffer from paranoid delusions please stay on the line so we can trace this call.

If you’re schizophrenic, please hold until the little voice tells you what to do.

If you’re manic-depressive, it doesn’t matter which button you push, no one will care.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Is Not Possible. I don't mind playing around with the guts of a PC, but the Mac is gonna get ordered with what most closely matches my needs and will not be cracked upon unless absolutely necessary.

I used to have a variation on this as my outgoing message. Some people who left messages couldn't stop from cracking up.

The outgoing message is best done only if you can conjure up a passable version of the Moviefone guy voice.
