That's what I am afraid of. The s/o lived in S. FLA for a few years and loved it, but that was in Broward towards the everglades (Plantation or Sunrise?) I forget which, but when we went to look around, it seemed like a great area. I think I really need to make several week long trips down to the area to make sure the move is right for me. I don't want to regret anything after it's too late to fix.

really would be a favor for yourself even if it costs 2k to get a suite with kitchen and all for 2-3 weeks, live there like you would if you were really living there, shop and do the normal daily life.
I found it highly inconvenient, terrible road congestion, so many downsides, literally no useful mass transit at all. It may be the best 2-3k you spend in your life.

It's either there or the Renaissance... (I can get the Renaissance for $82/night)

Staying at the PH this weekend. The rooms are on the small side, but the casino and dining options are decent. The pool is decidedly

This thread is good about mentioning Hyatt promotions where I'm ineligible (only a Plat).

Are you sure you're not eligible? The promo was targeted to Plats (who previously were Diamonds) but they're enrolling anyone who asks.

Promo code: SCDDIAM

For stays between 3/15- 6/30

ETA. I think we also have a condo available in Hallandale, on A1A, but I am not sure if I am cut out for community condo living.

I would really double/triple think about making the move. Granted the weather is nice but there is so much wrong with FL. My dad lived in Jupiter (West Palm Beach) and that was ok but FL has some really strange people that live there. He hated MIA because of seeing signs in the windows stating that English was spoken there. The drivers are nuts and the tap water is terrible. Publix is great but one needs more than a grocery store to make a move like this!

Yeah, I plan on doing somthing like this. If not a hotel, maybe the condo on A1A. I am well aware of the traffic situation and transportation issues but there is a chance we may be working from home, so that's somthing for me to take into consideration. Nothing like going to work in your underwear!

check out the corporate apartments as well, they can be pretty nice for a month stay, and with 30 days no taxes on it!

If you are interested in moving to FL, check out the northern parts of Palm Beach County - Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, etc. There are some very nice, new, high end areas and the people are nothing like the stereotypical South Floridian. If there were more jobs in my field, I would certainly consider moving to that area.

Thanks, I would like to stay north of FLL if I can help it and in no way south of Hallandale.

Perfect - you'd be about an hour north of FLL... ;)
