I just got done with a 9-1-1 caller. How can some people be so darn ?
Me: OK, I have help on the way. If the patient gets worse in any way, call us back immediately for further instructions. Caller: Call who back? Me: 9-1-1 sir. Caller: what number do I dial? Me: 9-1-1 Caller: So call nine one one for 9-1-1? Me: YES sir, dial nine, one, one for 9-1-1. Caller: Oh, ok. thanks! Yes, my job is full of  |
I think ALCO is online playing AM right now....I am just waiting to head to the airport, but my route keep getting undercut by ALCO's mighty revolutionary airline.

I thought cell phones had the GPS and the "911 only" option for a reason, so they can be tracked when 911 is called. Or did i just dream that? |

When we receive a wireless 9-1-1 caller, we also receive the long and lat of the caller, which was computed by the cell phone data based on the location of the towers the signal hit off. In our cad, that data does absolutely nothing. If I need to turn that date into something useful to me, I have to enter the long and lat into google earth on my personal notebook that I bring to work. Most of the time callers can give me a good description of their surroundings and I am able to determine where they are. There are sometime that a caller just has no idea where they are though, and in those cases, I would enter the long and lat into google earth to determine their approximate location and then question them about their surroundings to confirm their location before sending everyone on a wild goose hunt. The long and lat we receive from the wireless data also displays an accuracy percentage. Most of the time it is 95% which means that the long and lat provide has a 95% chance of being accurate. The times it becomes difficult is when the people are in the rural areas where the distance between the cell towers are greater and then the accuracy becomes less and thus more difficult to locate callers who are unable to provide their exact location. |
This evening I had a gentleman show up at our redeye IAH flight because he missed UA's flight to LAS. He was told that we could get him to MOB in time for a funeral except no one at UA rebooked him. The one very bad thing about e-tkts is that you have to have the other airline give you control of their ticket and they only way they can do that is to rebook that ticket for your flight. No one was at the local UA counter so I was forced to call their reservation number.
I got India. I tried to explain to the UA res agent that they had to rebook his ticket for CO, push control of that ticket to CO and then I could accept him for travel. The UA res agent kept telling me it was CO's ticket stock. It doesn't matter who's ticket stock the ticket is issued on, what matters is who has control of that ticket. After consulting with his supervisor, UA rebooked his flights for CO, gave us control and the man is on his way to his uncle's funeral. I have a love/hate relationship with e-tkts. |

7am update..
4 packages en route. UPS is responsible for 3 and all those have reached the Clearwater facility as of 6am. FedEx is responsible for a single package, which is currently being sorted at the Tampa facility. An undershirt and a stylish artsy-print-shirt did not make it out of the warehouse with the argyle socks - they may not make it to Paris. :( |
