I think we should have a box field trip to Europe or South America (southern hemisphere for ALCO) for a weekend next year. The BRU DO looked like it was fun, from the pics that were posted.

We've discussed, in passing, a Box DO in Argentina hosted by our own rolov.

I will probably plan another European DO in early 2010 as well...

+1 The topic of a EZE do was brought up last weekend in GIG and rolov was game.

I wish I had jumped on some of those cheap CO fares to LIM. Although, I'm thinking of throwing in the towel on some of my CO travel for the rest of the year. I'm looking for good deals on UA as I need to start padding that BD account and putting my Star Gold lounge access to use...

They are still out there. Look at SFO-LIM. TPA-ONT at $540 in F is one of the best UA deals out there.

I think once I fully understand this Q-up and BD crediting I will get a match from them and start flying UA.

It's not that hard. With BD, you need 55k miles for the first year and 38k for each additional to maintain BD Gold.

Once you're BD Gold, the earnings are:

0- 55k miles are credited at 325% RDM/EQM for UA QUP fares.
55k+ are credited as 625% RDM only.

You stop earning EQMs at 55k.

Sometime next year I am going to attempt to redeem a series 17 award in business class and will definitely require the professional services of the Box with routings/airlines. I know I want to visit Paris, Barcelona, Rome, Hong Kong (would prefer VS LHR-HKG), Bangkok and maybe a stop in Fiji or Hawaii.

I imagine once Oct 24 rolls out we'll see all new reward charts so I wouldn't plan much yet. Also, wouldn't HKG-BKK be considered backtracking and break the reward?

I'm still amazed that LGA-SAN has stuck around for so long. I just bought two one ways for $128 a pop for this week.

Positioning costs are a little rough on the SFO-LIM trip. It's not terrible, it's just a ton of flying when I don't need any more EQMs this year.

I should give TPA-ONT another look now that positioning costs to FL should be a bit lower... Off to ITA!

Pretty classy flyover at Indy, two B-25s.

Not really, at this point the routes are very limited where C or F redemptions are allowed due to their award restrictions for non SQ KF members. No west coast to SIN since the LAX-NRT-SIN flight will be going 77W.
Everyone expects the JFK-SIN route to get the downgrade to 77W, so the only real options are AMS-SIN on 772 or intra asia.

So you're essentially up a creek without a paddle if your miles are not parked at SQ. Lovely. Do you credit everything non-SkyTeam that you do to SQ too, or do you just funnel over your AX points?

The best flyovers, IMO, are the Heritage Flights. I have a shot as a USAF Heritage passed right over me...got the bellies of an F-16, F-15 Strike, and two P-51's, one of which in WWII stripes. I'd personally like to see Glacier Girl get in on the Heritage Flight tour, but that's really wishful thinking.

Aren't the mileage requires for a RTW with Star much higher?

While a RTW is fun to piece together, I'm still not sure I'm convinced it is worth the miles unless you have at least 3+ weeks to make 5-6 stops.

I remember hearing something about Star's RTW mileages going way up, but I don't remember any numbers. And I totally agree on the second point. Doing the flying and saying you did it on an RTW ticket is nice and all, but it's pointless if you don't take time to enjoy the stops.

I too enjoy the non-typical flyovers, though towards the later years of my Cleveland Grand Prix participation I really thought the 3 life flight helos was a bit tacky. One of my favs is still the bombers, whether it be the B-52s or B-2s.

Three life flight helos? Were the Geico Skytypers booked?

Yeah, could you tell that the sponsorship $$$ dried up? I heard that in planning meetings and was like . On a related note, during one of the Detroit races I escorted the crew dog on the ground who carried the suitcase with the tracking locator and radio. We timed it perfectly! ^^

I had to stand in formation and broil one day for an NJANG change of command ceremony. The incoming commander had been a tanker guy at McGuire, so they booked a KC-135 to overfly the end of the ceremony. They missed so bad that I was halfway to my car. I can just picture the  up in the tanker cockpit as they buzzed the apron to see a sea of camoflauge walking to the parking lots.

I got about $220 ai for the Mini Do (NW out, DL back) - used $89 that I had remaining from a VDB voucher, so the out-of-pocket cost was OK.

I would settle on BNA-CLE as anything - I can't stomach BNA-IAH or BNA-EWR on a E145, though. Given that I have no incentive at all to fly *A at the moment, I won't be elite come next February. And I will be SkyTeam Elite Plus in the next couple months ...

Those fares are slightly worse than free on industry tickets. ;) And the mainline service that icurhere2 wants is that of CO.

Although those flights do show up on Ding! in the high $70's before taxes (but is WN).

One of the many questionable aspects of the golf thread is that the NRT flight leaves at 11:00 am. Who has a wedding reception at 11:00 am? The earliest reception I can remember attending began at 4:30 pm (and lasted until 2:00 am).

There is nothing wrong with drinking at 11:00am.
