The game officially ended Saturday morning. It was a good run, but at the end of the day, Team Canada took home the trophy. The "Canadian Acquisition" was a success. (She said ) |
Ok, this grad school thing is all way too much to worry about when i can barely walk in a straight line. Darn you Hawaiian-swine-flu!
I must force myself to not care, because i dont have to care, and the deadline is at least by the end of this week to make a decision. Quick survey - pick one: A) Good school, little money B) Okay/decent school, lots of money Oh, and would you rather live in San Diego or Orange County? |

That Penn Station pizza place is amazing. I'm sure there's better somewhere in the city, but I stick with what I know. And Famous Chicken's hot sauce for gyros really should be in labeled containers, as I would go out and buy it if I knew whose it is. Here's a bright idea: ask while there. @:-) We're making a stop at B&H for me, and Macy's for her. The rest of the day is up to chance a little.

A or B is predicated on how much the money matters, IMO. And I'm more a fan of San Diego area, despite that I'm more familiar with the Orange County area.
The long winded story is that both programs offered to accept me. I chose the "good" program and told the other program "sorry, thanks for the offer." Then a week later the "Good" program calls me up to say my position had been eliminated and that the offer was rescinded due to budgets cuts, best of luck in my future educational endeavors. I panic and call the other program back - their offer no longer standing as the funds have been reallocated - but they say they'll see what they can do. A week later they can accept me, but financial package is pending and might be nothing they warn me. Many moons pass. "Good" school calls back and is like "sorry, just kidding, still want to come here?" and makes a new offer which is pretty piddly and requires me to pay out of state tuition. I hem and haw with everyone i know and "accept" on the guidance that the other school may offer nothing. Today I get mail from the other school saying that the tuition waiver cleared, that they're offering twice as much as the "good" school in a stipend/assistantship, and that i need to reply by a certain date to accept. |

I always report to Jury Duty knowing I will never be seated on a panel. Close to 20 years of legal industry experience including a stint working with the prosecutors office does not make me all that useful to many defense attorneys.

Here, I can be assigned to one of three courts (two criminal, one civil) but am done for the day. The civil one settled, criminal court one's trial was derailed by the guy escaping from jail over the weekend (not making this up), and I don't know what happened in the other criminal court (probably a plea). We'll see what (if anything) tomorrow brings.
If you write in with any sort of excuse you get out of it 9/10 times - moreso if they need you they'll call you and tell you to show up. |

I love six-day EUA's on NW. I logged into a reservation for this weekend to pick my seats for the first two upgraded segments, and by the time I had finished and was reviewing the reservation, the two return segments had cleared. I will really miss NW when it ceases to exist in its current form.

If the stipend is the driver to attend, it's a no-brainer to follow the money. Unless you're in a field where the name on the graduate degree really matters to the point that it would cost you a job or something like that.
It's a bit ironic in how their systems worked out - one school is younger and "hip" and does modern work but at the same time is steadfast on traditional technique. The other school has everyone teaching who is twice my age or maybe even three times my age, very wise-old-mentor-like, and they do traditional/classical style work but with cutting edge modern technique. |
Korea Itinerary is shaping up nicely. DMZ tour should take up most of a day, Namhansanseong Provincial Park is just a short subway ride from the W, and has a fortress, temples, and great views from the mountain trails, and the remaining time can be split between seeing Palaces and Shopping in central Seoul. Next I just need to figure out restaurant plans...
