I'm figuring out how to get off Comcast also. Those b*st*rds down here have just announced that they are dropping the NFL channel on May 1. First thing that I did was cancel the sports package tier that I bought from them when they put in the channel. Who needs three soccer games from Europe and South America and a baseball game from Tampa? But everybody needs the NFL channel.

I am ready for Direct TV in a heartbeat but I have nowhere to put the dish. All of my balconies and patios here face to the north and the condo rules prohibit it on the roof. I don't think it works thru a glass window so my south-facing windows are out.

This constitutes a major problem.

Did you have Patriot Media prior? I did. I'm not liking the switch to Comcast at all. I'm fairly meh on the NFL network thing (I think that was a legacy contract from Patriot Media that they couldn't wait to get out of), but I have not liked the changes that have taken place. Unfortunately they are the only choice for decent high speed internet (even if it is capped). What gets me the most :rolleyes::mad: is their awful DVR software. It has gotten worse over the years including a few repeatable bugs that I've found. I check for FI:rolleyes:S, but the truth of that matter is they're going to ignore my burbclave for a few years. I hope that they don't get more onerous on the capped download limites. :(

This must be some milestone - my first successful FT recruitment!! Less than 24 hours and he's already an expert with ITA and FareCompare (which I STILL don't understand how to actually utilize :(), posting awesome MR finds, and otherwise jumping in with two feet!

So if you ever make it over to the UA side of the tracks, be nice - but not too nice - to tjtenor4 ;)

The Boston based tv stations and sports talk shows have been calling them this for years. Went to school at URI and was stuck getting my news from them.

Nope. Before they collapsed, we had Adelphia but I could not tell any difference in service with Comcast for better or worse.

We certainly do not have as much choice here as we do in Manhattan where we already have two competing companies to choose from and there is soon to be a third when VZ wires us for Fios.

+ 1, the sonys tend to be over priced and I am a big fan of samsung TVs.

I'm looking at cashing in some Amex points soon...they have some decent 50"+ LCD's from Samsung.

One more point on the Sony Bravia devices working with each other - Sony only talks to Sony. They talk nice, but they keep it in the family.

Yes I do love how all I have to do is put the disc in and the blu-ray player does the rest. My now old Sony DVD player and former Wega TV even talked together a little through the composite cables. If I manually changed one setting on the TV settings it would tell the DVD player and I'd get a near HD quality picture. Remarkable difference in quality.

:) :) :) Some might call it that. Others might by a copy to line their bird cages. And others to find out from a bunch of Aussies imported to report what Rupert Murdoch is thinking at any given moment. Just about its only redeeming feature is a couple of columnists in the sports section.

I drove about 250 miles on Route 66 today and it was quite the experience. The ghost towns full of abandoned buildings stuck in a time decades ago were quite fascinating!

Unfortunately, I did not get many pictures as it was difficult to tell if people were living in some of these structures. While they certainly did not look inhabitable, there were still signs of life here and there. The last thing I wanted was some drunk guy with a shot gun running after me for trying to take a picture of his "house". :) It's a shame though, I saw a lot of nice shots.

We've got a Vizio and a Sony. The Sony has far, FAR better features, particularly in our situation, with cable but without a cable box.

The Sony tuner is so much better than that crap Motorola tuner in the box. Ok the box isn't HDMI (Boo Comcast of Central Jersey for not having HDMI boxes)

Almost everybody. :)

Seriously, though, is there anyone else in the NYC area who would contemplate getting up at a semi-ridiculous hour on Saturday/Sunday and going to a bar to watch the Premier League? If I'm in town and not working I would totally be up for it...have been contemplating paying for Setanta Broadband, but not taken the plunge yet.

It's been nice to have the UEFA Champions League matches on ESPN360 (i.e. free) this year, but they're going to Fox Soccer Channel next year, meaning that I'm out of luck.

Oh -- without a box the Sony TV also picks up the program listings off of all the channels it can find. Costco has great prices on Sony TVs, as well as a great return policy.

I took a step back in time at the DFW Raddison, I have some very memorable teen years here that I will not admit to when it was called Wilson World :D
