This whole dollar coin thing seems like more of a hassle than it is worth. Ordering them, waiting for them to be delivered, worrying about wrong quantities being delivered, and trying to spend them or lug them up to the bank to trade them in does not appeal to me for the amount of RDM's that can be earned from buying them. I would rather just take a mileage run or two.

I have to say, i'm amazed that i've started to see five day upgrades, even on cheap tickets. I can't remember the last time I saw that. :)

You should have been ahead of all EUA's as a waitlisted saverpass passenger. Call them and see what is going on.

Wow, i've had days like that. Never a good thing.
Speaking of which, I meant to tell you. I was telling you to do the crazy DSM routing. Talking to the gf the other day, we had the following conversation: Me: "You wanna go to Geneva?" Her: "Sure. Wait, how are we getting there?" Me: "Umm, PHL-IAH-EWR-GVA and back" Her: "No, that's too insane. Why can't we just go directly?" I feel your pain. At least it was an offer to take her to GVA and not DSM. I think it's funny that she has learned to ask how you're getting there. |

Agreed. It is a pain. I like having some of the coins but the rest of the process is just annoying, and it is very few miles.
8/12 of my BWI-SEA run flights upgraded at 5 days out. I'm not sure about that. I think that upgrade and reward seat inventory is different. A reward upgrade would have priority, but I don't know about full redemption. |
I just got off the phone with one of our biggest clients (partner at a very large Hedge Fund) who travels A LOT. He knows I fly back and fourth to Texas for wedding stuff and to see the family (he travels the same route) so I said "you must have elite status on a number of airlines and a ton of banked miles" (thinking, like it matters to him?) and he said "I just dont bother with that stuff, my company pays for first class travel anyway so I cant get upgraded further than I already am and when I travel personally I just chose the cheapest direct flight." He goes on to talk about how much he already has to deal with in regards to work and he doesnt need anything else on his plate. Meanwhile Im sitting on the phone with my jaw on the desk. I'd be willing to bet he does 200-250k BIS miles a year too.
He mentioned he has a few hotel programs that he sees the benefit of in regards to upgrades. :o |

Incorrect. An outright redemption has priority over EUA's (I have been in this situation many times). IIRC, a first class reward redemption is treated as PR1 behind only paid F passengers. Mileage upgrades also have priority over EUA's; not sure where they rank in relation to outright redemptions, though (equal to, perhaps?).

Of course, I read it in the same voice as... "Use of unnecessary force against the Blues Brothers has been approved." |
