I figure about 9:15am I'll be at the TreeTree.

On the maintenance tour bus; I see Hartmann up there, but no other Boxers so far.

ETA: sdm1130 and rkkwan are here too.

Yep, it was great running into you there. I'm glad you asked that other group of guys sitting near me if they were from FlyerTalk, otherwise I would have missed you.

I am really pissed right now. I could be at the Do. But I'm at home (which being home last night was really nice) and stuck with hours and hours and hours of work crap to get done today.:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Space Center Houston. Though, that may be too far to go. Like art? The Museum district is a good place to go. Picture taking... hmm.. Good pictures of downtown can be had from this park. Other places to go are Hermann Park. Houston is not good for tourists.

For a weekend getaway, there's plenty to do. Hermann Park, the Museum District, Galleria (if you like to shop), Downtown, and even trekking it out to NASA and the Clear Lake/Kemah/Seabrook area is more than enough to fill a weekend and not get bored. I guess it depends on what you're into. Some of the museums are truly excellent, but if that's not your thing, you can scratch it off the list. NASA's cool if you're into space stuff and have never done it before. There's not a lot, and I certainly wouldn't recommend the city for a week-long vacation, but for a couple of days, it's pretty darn good IMO.

Truly sorry you missed this event. Last night was great and the mystery event involved a tour of Texas at 3000-10000 feet. Buzzing the tower at HOU was particularly fun, especially with the comments from the crew.

Seriously good times thus far.

Yeah, when you posted in your blog about "9920" I knew you were getting flown around. I watched the second half of the flight on FlightAware. Going to check out your pics now.

Fun. Too bad it's not UA, or you could ask for a SkyKit for that.

I had a crazy post with details all written and I was waved off at the last moment from actually posting it. The 9920 was about as good as I could do without pissing off the folks making this all happen, and I didn't want to do that. I figured that people would figure that out, but it would be OK.

Seriously, the flight was just awesome. No other words really work right now.

That sounds like a great time. I just got back from the maintenance tour and it was quite awesome as well. They had a 737-800 in the hangar for repair due to recent lightning strikes. You could see the spots on the fuselage where the paint was marred by it. There was no power on it but we did get to go inside the cockpit, I believe sdm1130 and Hartmann both have pictures there.

The next hangar contained a 757-200 undergoing heavy maintance. All the seats were outside the aircraft and the fuselage was stripped down to the wiring inside. They actually let us go through it with giant holes in the floor plating. The lavs were detatched and sitting in the middle of the floor. They also had the nose cone up so we could look at the radar and TCAS systems. The engine cowlings were pulled back so we could actually get under and inside them.

It was very, very cool. I mean, how many times does one get to walk through a stripped 757-200 in a lifetime? ^ to the CO MX team for showing us around and answering approximately eleventy billion questions from everyone.

Damn. I slept in with the wife and baby. Missed it all. We'll be there for brunch tomorrow. Enjoy the Q&A sessions. Time to go to work.

Hartmann Feb 7, 2009 3:09 pm

Please PM me if you need a ride to the brunch.
