Mmm...Ommegang...who's up for an upstate NY Belgian beer DO? 4hr drive from EWR, 1.5-2 from ALB/SYR, or maybe just a bar that serves a few of their brews?

Where are you seeing those? This page says they are still selecting the weekend specials.
I am off to the corn fields of Iowa (on NWA via the beautiful DSM ) this weekend anyway, so I wouldn't be able to take advantage of any good offers. |
Looks like they updated the specials page. Of course, I'm missing out on several good deals that I could have made use of... AUS, LAX, PTY, SAN...

Hmmm, that's a DO I might actually be able to attend.;) Oddly enough, there aren't a lot of bars around here that serve Ommegang. Cooperstown is a tad unwieldy for a DO though, the logistics of getting there would be tough.

I got a kick out of this a.nut thread. Some people are a little too punchy about this whole merger speculation...

'Tis a shame re: the logistics. If it doesn't work out, as a backup plan we can just hit my favorite NYC beer bar (where I first tried Ommegang, and met their brewmaster.) IAH has mini-do-drinkfests...time for the NY/NJ contingent to organize! :p
Any suggestions on a venue? Sadly, here we generally have to decide between breadth of offerings and cheap options. There are plenty of bars with lots of good beers, but few of them are inexpensive. Or we can go with a less refined establishment at lower prices. Starting with these guys as a resource and Ommegang as the beer of choice, it looks like there are a few options, including a couple on tap. Peculiar Pub isn't bad, and neither is Ginger Man, depending on which neighborhood we'd want to be in. Clearly you have a favorite. Is it one of these? |
Son of a....look at that special fare EWR-BHM. I wanna go play the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, and 54 holes of it are 15 minutes from BHM. Too bad it's waaaaay too short notice for me. I need to get my time off weeks/months in advance.

Ugh. NW must be out to prevent me from adding new types to my FlightMemory. Every time I'm scheduled on a DC-9-40, the thing breaks down and gets a -30 or -50 substituted for it. Happened again this morning on ATL-DTW.
Miracles do happen though. While my DC-9-50 on ATL-DTW had the usual navy blue duct tape, the DC-9-30 (delivered in July 1967) I flew on DTW-MSP was on time, had a spotless interior, and NO DUCT TAPE! Hard to believe that one of the very oldest planes flying with a major US carrier (this particular plane is about the 3rd or 4th oldest NW has) had probably the best looking interior of any NW plane I've flown in the last three years. |

CO merges with AS then they somehow convince EK, VS , MH, VA , BR and Jet to start a new alliance. PS my 2 JFK-FRA-SIN-MLE F awards cleared the waitlist on SQ :D:D |
I see some misplaced spacebar usages....drunk posting alert!!!
So anyway, just to tease myself, I went one screen shy of redeeming 20K miles for these EWR-BHM flights that I can't take...a connection in IAH was available both ways (going needlessly out of the way in true FT fashion) so I selected that both ways. The website forced me onto the RJ nonstop for an outbound every time. What the hell is that about? |

Like one of those travel must not be on flight number xx xx |

I wonder if they could get Air Astana to join in. :D Happy 6666 post to me!! |

If air Astana joined , everyone here would be fighting over C/J/F seats for the stans DO, we would need the PDA site to show that upgrade list. Congrats on your 6666  |
I had the misfortune of flying US twice this week to the Freddie's and back. It amazes me they still exist.
As for the NYC DO, i'm game. I do think that events in the NY/NJ area are a bit light compared to the IAH contingent. |
