How's that US trip going?

So far not too bad. One flight down, two to go. I'm at PHL right now, flying to CLT in about an hour and then after that to IAH. Next flight is the A-321, my first on the type. That's followed by a ratty old 734.

The flight up here from ATL wasn't bad. It was a 319, and it was surprisingly pretty nice inside. The F seats could use a little more pitch; it reminded me of F on NW's DC-9s. Flight attendants were very friendly, and the service in F reminded me of NW and DL with the snack basket. They do get a big :td::td::td: for the plastic cups in F.

So far no disasters, but not nearly as awesome as you told me it would be.

I'm only 1/3 of the way through it. Survival is me checking into my room at the IAH Marriott later tonight right around midnight.

OK, I know it's nice to be comfortable on an overnight transatlantic flight. But seriously, pajamas and flip flops in the airport? Seriously? And this guy thinks this is a good idea why?

I told you it was going to be awesome. :D

The most difficult part is getting in and out of PHL.

Maybe it's your complimentary Hillbilly. Ask him if his name is Gunther. If so, you can take him home. It's US' new policy.

Yeah PHL has always been a pain when I've had to deal with it. Tonight hasn't been bad. Weather is fine and flights aren't really delayed.

I hadn't been in the US terminals at PHL in about 10 years. They've made some nice improvements. I'm departing for CLT out of A-16, which is in the new international terminal. I was pleasantly surprised by it.

But you know what really sucks? No wi-fi at all in this gate area. NONE. I'm having to use Bluetooth to tether my BlackBerry and post over T-Mobile's wireless network. And FT is super slow over that kind of connection.

I think I'm going to drink some wine this evening.

Holy sh!t. They just paged a guy named Gunther Grady here at the gate and pajama boy stood up. I'm not kidding.

But then it turned out he was just going to throw away his empty Au Bon Pain wrappers. The real Gunther Grady walked up to the podium and collected his new boarding pass.

Funny that US didn't mention the complimentary Hillbilly promo in flight. I guess they were too busy hawking their credit card and forgot the "Hillbillies are complimentary today and yours to take home and enjoy after your flight" announcement.

And seriously, is the Bank of America Dividend Miles MasterCard the only thing keeping US afloat right now? Not only are the flight attendants making a ridiculously long announcement about it and then parading up and down the aisle with applications, but there's someone trying to force you to sign up for it every 20 feet along the PHL concourse.

Me too.

If you really want to see the hillbillies at PHL go to the WN gates. It's nicer flying on the Republic flights (US EX) as they don't mention the credit card at all.

ssullivan Nov 25, 2008 4:21 pm

But the US Express flights don't have F. Mainline, F, credit card, and plastic cups still trumps Express, Republic, Y, and no credit card.

Guess I should sign off. My French imitation 757 is probably boarding soon.
