Good enough for government work! (Oy)

Do you guys have a wireless enhanced 911 system to deal with the proliferation of cell phone generated 911 calls? We do just north of the border and I think it works based on triangulation of the towers that are holding the caller's call. I think flubber is involved too.

Our back-up for our back-up for our back-up is actually a call center in PA. Figure that one out.

Quick note to everyone else in the Box that doesn't care about this stuff, if you don't have the GPS function on your cell phone enabled, you're severely handicapping yourself.

I think I drank too much coffee this morning. I have the jitters and I'm working at a lightening fast pace. :D

After my booked flights are flown and the last of my B&N miles finally post (only 510 RDM still unaccounted for) I'll be one or two trips shy of a reward. But rather than cash out at 50K, I think I'll hold out for international up front. It'd be much easier to reward one seat and only pay for one if the time comes for such.

We do have "enhanced" 9-1-1 here for wireless, but it is not yet the standard.. We have Phase 1 and Phase 2 wireless, Phase 1 will just display the location of the cell tower used to place the call and that is not necessarily anywhere near the callers and phase 2 will display a long and lat which multiple cell towers have triangulated the callers location down to about 50 +/- feet. Our computers will not read the phase 2 wireless info, we need to ask the caller for their physical location or figure is out on our own  which is wny I need to bring my notebook with google earth to work, to save lives.

Yep, soccer in No. Cal is strange. They prefer it if you don't run up the score. I can only assume that the coach figured that if he could score two goals within 5 minutes maybe he (the coach) should give the benchwarmers a chance to play in a game. I personally think this is a bunch of crap but I'm just the mommy.

My son also plays on a traveling team and that coach will allow the players to remain in the game, when the score gets too high, but instructs the kids to use their weak foot for scoring. Atleast this philosophy makes more sense.

Does Googling the lat and long make it that much easier for you guys to give an accurate location to the outgoing EMS/fire crew? And if so, does it make for a noticeable difference in response time?

Yeah, fast food is a big one here, and in all seriousness, this is the place to come for an accurate and timely answer to a random question. The compendium of useless information represented by the regulars in here is nothing short of astonishing.

If my partner was on the line with a wireless caller that had no idea where they were, I would be inputting the long and lat (if it even displayed on the 9-1-1 screen) into google earth to figure out where the caller is, all while they are still asking the questions they need to determine the appropriate response. We/I never take google earth as the word of god, we will attempt to verify with the caller the actual location, using the information from google earth, ex: are you near the dairy queen? Is there a cemetery on the right side of the road and the river on the other side, ect. In reality if the caller does not know where they are or cannot provide any information, that itself will delay the call a lot longer that me using google earth to determine a location.
