My first EQMs of 2009 posted this morning. Only 1,500 or so, but it still feels good to be north of 0.

The earnings on the SPG Amex are just too good.

I just decided to start moving the FT handles from the comment box to the aircraft name box in the Do FM. This should be a giant pain in the .

Interesting. I've been debating getting the AmEx Plat card forever next time I get one of those 100k MR incentives to sign up for the PClub access.
Not worth it? Since you're in the neighborhood, are you going to the Do/Meet/Thing? |

Value is relative to your uses of the card.
I've always transferred my MR points from my green card over to my SPG account. But I lose a bit in the redemptions compared to just having a straight-up SPG card. The other component is I need to carry a card that has no limit (or one that's so high I have no concept of what it is) for my job. So, I don't think the AmEx SPG card would be sufficient for that. As a personal quest to remain fiscally responsible, I carry no more than 2 cards. And I don't want to double-up (SPG and Plat) on AmEx because they're not universally accepted. Edit - I can expense $75 (green card fee) to my work. So, I can just deduct that for a higher level card. |

I remember the first time you were wondering about this, and IIRC you theorized that the fee justifies itself on lounges alone given the level of flying you do, especially since they nixed 2 for 1 tickets and I think Plat card also got rid of the higher MR point categories.

Between SPG Amex, Promos, and Plat Bonuses, I've managed to rack up about 340,000 SPG points in 2.5 years. I couldn't have come close to that with the Amex Plat. I already blew 200K of that on the Honeymoon, and will soon be spending another 45K for free nights (I don't like to let my SPG balance drop below 100K). I think many SPG hotels use current points balance as one of their criteria for prioritizing Plat upgrades. It may be pure coincidence, but I have noticed a much better percentage of suite upgrades when my balance was above 100K than when it was below 100K.
now im just trying to get back to 200k |

I think 70K would be an absolute minimum for me. Knowing you have a week of free nights in a Cat-4 is reassuring during Hurricane Season.
