I will be there the nights of the 23rd and 24th and will of course have time for a mini do. (Since I don't usually travel on weekends, I figure this is my chance to meet at least some of the Pit contingent.) I'm not sure what time I'll get there Sunday and will probably be working until about 7 pm on Monday. The Sheraton Suites is actually quite nice. Aloft is fine, though I know Monitor had a bad time with them there. For Marriott, I would go on with the Marriott on W Loop S, with the JW being my back up. There is a CY on Westheimer that is pretty good (though charges for parking). |

Midtown is very difficult for us to read. We'd like something within walking distance of the light rail (my wife will likely use that to get to/from work) and, most importantly, a place in a safe area. When she leaves the house, I don't want to have to worry about her safety. I also don't want to worry about our car being broken in to. Many ares in Midtown (at least the ones close to the light rail) don't seem to completely guarantee these things...

Fiancee's parents were in MSY last week. They brought me home beignet mix and chicory coffee. ^ They also apparently missed out on op-ups on FL by one person.

The Westin Oaks was fine, and the room was updated with the latest standard Westin furniture, but the bathroom does show the hotel's age somewhat. Again, it's nothing exciting, but I didn't find it to be anything close to the awful property I've seen some on here describe it as. I was only there for one night, and spent less than 12 hours in my room, but it wasn't bad. I've stayed in far, far nicer Westin properties, but there are much worse hotels in the neighborhood. The Marriott West Loop has just kicked off a major renovation. Until that is complete, it's showing its age far more than the Westin Oaks, in my opinion. The bathrooms in that hotel scream early 1980s. At least with the Westin they've been updated some. Not so at the Marriott. I don't think the place has changed much since I stayed there as a kid with my family on several weekend trips to Houston when it was still fairly new in the early 1980s. Hyatt has no full service property in the Uptown/Galleria area. In fact, I'm not even sure what their limited service options are. There's also a Sheraton Suites and the Westin Galleria, but I've not stayed in either of those hotels. Same for the JW Marriott on Westheimer. |
Wow, I am on an ERD and am staying at a Fairmont tomorrow. Oh, the humanity.

Question for the Hyatt oracles:
I booked a room at the Grand Hyatt, in Washington DC for next Saturday night. I called to ask for a suite upgrade (diamond status, one of my 4/yr). What can I expect? Do I just get two rooms next to each other, or will it be a real suite? Also, as a diamond, do I get breakfast for all of us (Mr.Brit and my two girls, plus me). Will the concierge lounge be open on a Saturday night? If not,do I get extra points? I've only stayed at Hyatt Places up until now, so don't know the drill for the full service hotels. |

We spotted that place when we were down last weekend and thought we had found the perfect fit. When we got home, I called to get some pricing and found out that they're asking over $2000/month for a 1BR.

For Houston, that's pretty ridiculous. That neighborhood commands a price premium, but even for the Museum District, it's too much. That's on par for what we were seeing in rents for prime locations in central DC for a one bedroom/one bath unit.
