I should ignore theft that impacts the cost of my groceries as long as the theft isn't directly against me? I'm curious as to which theft I should ignore and which I should report.
And your statement above suggests that you actually only care about laws being broken if they do directly affect you. Interesting theory. The idea of a shopping cart or two going missing having a direct and appreciable effect on grocery prices is silly. I'm not encouraging or condoning the theft, but I'm also not so sure they need your help keeping track of their stuff. And, FWIW, I've been in a store and watched a couple guys shoplifting. I did inform the shopkeeper then because it was still in the shop. |
Is it bad that the location of Starwood properties is playing in to where we will be stopping on our drive to Houston next month? :D
It will earn me another free weekend night that we will use at one of the pricey SPG properties in Vienna, so I figure it is well worth it. Total Travel Estimate: 25 hours 53 minutes / 1624.37 miles  |

CLE-BTR was 1109 miles each way and that was something in itself - this is another order of magnitude entirely. Good luck. Into how many days are you breaking this up, and where are you thinking about stopping? You could do it in 2.5 days and stop in TYS and MSY (though that first day would be pretty brutal)... |

Not at all! You're going to have to stop somewhere... :)

I hate long rides in a car (DC is a long drive for me!) so this should be interesting... At least it will just be in a car and not a U-Haul or something. |
Hi Box, greetings from the Hilton in Gainesville FL.
sbm12, I successfully navigated the various law enforcement pitfalls along the way...Thanks! |

I wish our plants offered tours. Just the sheer speed/scale of some of our processes is pretty amazing - the machines that make Kraft Singles produce >1000 slices/minute. I actually found a little picture of one out on the Internet, so I can at least show that:
http://www.natec.de/english/iws.htm A single machine takes hot cheese, extrudes it into a ribbon, wraps in plastic, cools it to refrigerated temperatures, cuts it into individual slices, stacks the slices, then puts an overwrap around them. Mmmm... 1000 slices/minute of American cheese. I think I'm blind.

Happy Mother's Day to the mommies of The Box.
The house modem died a sudden death yesterday. So I purchased a new one today as my Mother's Day gift. I then spent the next few hours on the phone with AT&T India, Cisco India and Cisco Manila. Let's just say that working with the people in Manila is better. I attempted to reconfigure the new modem to our router but fail so I bit the bullet and paid Cisco for help. Best $29.95 I ever spent. |
Sounds like you bought a linksys product. :D

I tried to get the India call center to give me free phone service for their product (linksys) and I got no where. Even asked to speak to a supervisor, which didn't help. Atleast I didn't mind paying Manila to help me since I could actually carry on a real conversation with the tech. They even wished me a Happy Mother's Day. |

Excellent guess! We will drive to TYS on day one (about 11 hours), MSY on day two (about 9 hours) and then on to Houston. Neither of us have been to MSY (and we will have an extra day to kill), so we will stop there for two nights.
I hate long rides in a car (DC is a long drive for me!) so this should be interesting... At least it will just be in a car and not a U-Haul or something. I'm glad you'll have some time in MSY - it's fun. I highly recommend the sunset paddlewheel cruise, especially since it's your first time in the city. As far as eating, obviously it's really hard to go wrong, but if you decide that you want to do a fancy place, Commander's Palace >>>(x 100) Galatoire's. I agree with you on the long car trips (DC is totally a long drive!) though for me, not being alone while driving makes all the difference in the world. |
Hi Box, just checking in now that a busy weekend of packing for the move next weekend is done. We're pretty much set now. There are a few things for me to pack tomorrow, but we're almost there. I'm just ready for the whole ordeal to be over with so we can get settled into enjoying life in Washington DC.
