Very nice; where were these?

Butterfly World out north west of Fort Lauderdale.

There is a Festival indoor flea market just south of it as well, has a lot of interesting things and not nearly as junky as an outdoor flea market.

And AC cooled, which was nice after the heat at the Butterfly World today.

Moms were free today, but it is $25 a person otherwise  Very costly, but it was good for 1.5 hours of scorching heat and 100% humidity (they insured that with misters going all the time)

Is it bad that the location of Starwood properties is playing in to where we will be stopping on our drive to Houston next month? :D

If you did anything else, I would doubt your boxworthiness

No, it's not. We are staying with Starwood on the move up to DC next Friday, in part because of the free weekend night promotion, but also, because they're pretty pet friendly and we'll have cats that need to not spend the night in the car.

sdm1130, have you found a place to live in Houston yet?

Hi Box, just checking in now that a busy weekend of packing for the move next weekend is done. We're pretty much set now. There are a few things for me to pack tomorrow, but we're almost there. I'm just ready for the whole ordeal to be over with so we can get settled into enjoying life in Washington DC.

Congrats on your move and the next big step!

Most importantly, when is the housewarming party? ;)

That's seems really pricey! Good thing your photos were so great!

It was fun hanging out with friends and not working for a couple hours indeed, but otherwise costly.

No need for a grocery bill to go up even more. I applaud you.^

Packing = worst ever. Sounds like you were able to knock it out like a champ, though! Hang in there...

Funny thing is, we never had a housewarming party in Atlanta. In fact, we had this great place, and rarely had people over. And we only had one overnight guest, a friend who lives in Boston, in two years of living in this loft.

Now, with this move, we're going to have my sister-in-law as an overnight guest on only our third night in DC, and my parents informed me tonight they're planning on spending a weekend in Washington visiting us in mid-July, and we've already got other friends who want to come up. I think we're actually going to end up having friends over to visit at our place far more often in Washington than we did in Atlanta, and we're already on target for having more overnight guests in our first 60 days of living there than we've had the last two years here.

One thing that has been very, very odd about this move. People have this notion of "Southern hospitality" and all, but our friends in Atlanta have barely acknowledged we're moving, and for the most part, haven't really spoken to us since they found out about it. On the other hand, friends and family in the Washington area, as well as all over the Northeastern US are so excited that we're going to be much closer, and keep telling us how much they're looking forward to it. An old acquaintance of my partner's from years ago in DC has already said he wants to host a party to welcome my partner back to town, and welcome me as a new resident, and wants us to invite everyone in the area we know. I've always felt like somewhat of an outsider in Georgia, and now it's really evident that I wasn't just imagining that. Despite our efforts to become closer friends with people here, over the last year we've increasingly grown to realize that a lot of our closest, truest friends weren't the people we hung out with on a regular basis in this city. And lately we've found that to be very true.

Anyway, there are a lot of things I'll miss about Atlanta, but on the other hand, I don't find it nearly as hard to say goodbye to living here as I did when I left Houston. Everything about this move says it's the right thing for us at the right time. And now I'm just ready for it to happen.

As for that housewarming party, probably later in the summer.

Does the Hotel Bagworld earn points? What about bonus offers? And, perhaps most importantly, what does it take to qualify for elite status, and what are the perks once you have qualified?

No kidding!

Yeah, we got it done very quickly. We had to. Three weeks is not a lot of time. Fortunately, having moved just two years ago, and combined households at that point, we got rid of a ton of stuff then. And since, we've not accummulated a lot more, and have been good about donating or eBaying things we no longer wanted on a regular basis. We made a trip to Goodwill to drop stuff every Saturday for the last three weeks, but other than three TVs and two barstools, it was mostly old clothes, sheets, towels, and shoes.

This move, so far, has been about as low-stress as they come. Yesterday afternoon panic mode hit some, and my partner was visibly stressed about it all, but for the most part, we've just gotten it done and not worried about it.

It will earn me another free weekend night that we will use at one of the pricey SPG properties in Vienna, so I figure it is well worth it.

Total Travel Estimate: 25 hours 53 minutes / 1624.37 miles

I did the PHL-HOU drive three times! Once, I drove Mrs. photog72 down back in June 2007. Then in July 2008, I moved most of my stuff down w/ a moving van and towed one of my cars. Then in September 2008, I finally moved down w/ the few things I had left. I did one drive in 30 hours, another in 32 hours. Napped at a rest area at the Alabama/Georgia state line.

This is the route I took on my solo journeys. Are you heading in a similar direction?
