[QUOTE=sbm12;13869626]You're missing out. The ability to go to London at a 40% discount or the ability to get a 100K F seat N.Am.-Europe on *A are great reasons to go MR rather than CO. QUOTE]

I thought you could just pay with points with MR.... how do you select these options?

I feel I need to go into hibernation until the merger talk goes away. In the words of some one wiser than me, "it is time to cr@p or get off the pot."

My fear with the merger is ticket prices. We're reducing the number of carriers and taking two airlines that competed with each other in certain markets and combining them.

I'm actually hoping (fingers crossed) for better prices. If you ever look at the MR forum, you see plenty of UA runs, but barely a CO MR-worthy fare very often.

These people deserve to be steamrolled like Ricardo Montalban at the end of Naked Gun.

Less competition will likely mean higher fares all around.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see UAs generous routing rules pulled back a bit.

The thing is will CO's not friiendly to MR pricing carry over to the new company?

Night, Box. Here's hoping the next solid week of new threads asking questions that no one has the answer to and have been asked in eleventy billion other threads is bearable.

So I go out for a pack of cigarettes, take a wrong turn, get a little lost, and when I get home the damned airline is merging. Certainly, I've been away far too long.

Nothing to report about my absence, and nothing to show in the way of souvenirs, except maybe this screen shot from the BA website from January, showing what is certainly one of the most absurd "economy" fares ever posted. At the time, SU was flying the route for a few hundred bucks.

UA runs are so prevalent because of the routing rules. It's a blessing and a curse: their network is large to the point that they need to write fare rules with so much flexibility, but on the flipside abuse runs rampant...one need not look any further than the poster who snagged SEA-SFO-DEN-GEG for $87ai. There's no earthly reason for a fare like that to be able to be constructed. I'd feel like I robbed a bank if I flew that.

That was my beef with the UA people before CO came to Star. On one hand, they would piss and moan about ratty old planes, crap service, rude staff, blah blah blah. Then a few threads later, you see these same people openly bragging that they exploited the rules (the rape of the E-500 comes to mind) and got a crapton of miles for next to no cash. I don't buy the argument that the rules are put there to be followed. You can't pray for success with one hand and wave to the Devil with the other.
