And apparently the lesson in tabbed browsing is already forgotten. She now has about 5 separate IE windows open again, and can't find what she's looking for.

This group is now reaping what they sowed yesterday by not paying attention. I'm making them get it all set up in their production environment, and I'm making them take the lead, rather than me telling them step by step what to do. And now a couple of people are in a total panic.

Howdy B:rolleyes::-:

All caught up following getting out of the hospital yesterday. Now I get 1.5 - 2.5 weeks off from work.

I'm honestly quite surprised that is even happening. I would challenge as to what triggered this? Is there a special event or something else. I'm inclined to think if you're persistent, they will change in their minds and choose to bump someone else.

Well I emailed her back. I prefer email to a phone conversation as I don't want to be pressured into something that I will later regret. I asked for comparable accomodations with what would be the equivalent of diamond benefit (internet and lounge/breakfast). I also asked for what I called a chunk of points.

The response is 'I want to talk to you on the phone'. This is my response. :rolleyes:

I'm always amazed at IT people who complain about Microsoft and security, and then do stupid things like keep their computers running Windows XP and IE 6, ignoring the enormous number of security improvements that exist in later versions of that software.

you mean, never update their software and are trojaned virii infested nests of doom and members of DDOS botnets that crap all over the collective intertubes.

Yep.

The three times in this job I've had a virus sneak onto my work laptop, it came through a client's network while I was on site with them. And all were institutions that were horrible about updating their software.

Of course my IT department can be fairly guilty of that. We didn't push IE 7 out until after IE 8 was released (some of us had already installed IE 8 at that point on our own, and had been using 7 long before that, even though it "wasn't supported") and we're still running Windows XP. :rolleyes:

Don't you just love when that happens? I got a better performance rating last year than I thought I deserved, because my boss found certain "fluff" items I did for our team to be much more valuable in her mind.

At our offices, the core image that people have is WinXP SP3, with Office 2003 and IE5. :eek: The IT group is good about keeping our machines patched, at least, and if anyone's got malware on their machines, they probably aren't getting anything out through the authenticating proxy. I have a hard enough time getting anything other than IE/Firefox to authenticate through the proxy as is.

The good news is that everyone has the option to upgrade to IE7/Office 2007 as a bundled upgrade. To force the issue among my peers at least, I've been deliberately crafting my documents with certain functionality that requires them to upgrade to interact with my files (ie, PivotTables in Excel2007 become read-only in Excel2003). Then, I just tell them "Oh, it doesn't work? You need to upgrade." My passive-aggressive way of helping the internet. ^

Howdy, Box.

I thought I was going to a focus group this morning. Turned out to be me an 7 folks from the customer and their various support groups. That was interesting. Someone actually cared about my ideas and wanted to hear me talk for two hours, all on my own. And they gave me stuff as a thanks for coming in.

If only I could make a living that way...

Sure. Agree to let me record said call. Followed up by the disclaimer that the Hyatt rep could not possibly comprehend the dimension of pissed off that you are inhabiting right now, and justifiably so.

It amazes me that psychological and psychiatric professionals consider passive aggression to be a bad thing. I think it works wonders.
