Might as well. GIG is nice for two or three nights, but it can always be done on a weekend given the ability to take redeyes in both directions.

REC/GIG is on my list for 2011, I have a friend that is well known there....I am hoping for some tour from him as well, will be cool to have an insider tour of the interesting places. Maybe in an armored car, who knows :)

I called for a second opinion and was given a price that was 17% of what this current dude wants to charge. Sounds like I'm getting a different plumber.

Indeed. Though I am also now questioning the second quote I got as they said the part was about $80 but I see them for $29 at Home Depot. Someone is blowing  up my skirt.

Nice skirt, Shirley.

Last time I didn't DIY something around the house, the guy who did the project invoiced me for labor and included the receipt from HD for his parts cost. I approve. ^

For 17% of the first quote, I would take the markup and run, but that's just me. A fourfold savings is usually pretty good on any given day.

Armored car depends on just how high profile he is and in which city you are traveling. Kidnapping and other targeted crimes in Brazil generally are directed only at wealthy Brazilians.

Grrrrr.....my electrician played that game when my kitchen was being done. How about buying a roll of wire instead of a specific amount....for the third time. One trip was because I 'd about the fact that they ran the cabinet lighting wires along the back of the cabinet where you could see them though the glass doors as opposed to the front where they were hidden from view due to the height/angle.

Tell the plumber you already have the part and purchase it at Home Depot before he comes out to do the work.

Yeah, I would love to see actual cost for some of this junk. They're making a killing with their 800% markups.

Agreed, and that's likely what I'll do.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Either that or ask them to show me proof of paying $80 for the part.

Mackieman Apr 15, 2010 10:46 am

Hahahahaha, the plumber told me that if it needed a new handle for the faucet in the tub, it's $59.

The part is $12 at Home Depot and involves inserting a single screw.

This guy can screw off.
