Formal complaint now lodged with hotel GM and Hyatt. I am now very angry with the initial set of excuses.

Cool!^

The hotel is now playing dumb (I have the FD clerk's name who called). Night manager is now being defensive and stupid.

Time to sleep.

Good morning, Box!

Buenos .

Got into the plant at 6:30a for an experiment that was supposed to start at 7a. Plant manager caught me coming in the door - they want to discuss and scope down the trial at 7:30. Said trial was already looking to run 11-12 hours. Going to be a seriously  kind of day.

Okay, now I am annoyed. Hotel FD just called me to ask whether I was planning on staying or leaving the room without sleeping here. Hotel is at capacity, but...

Even if you have a history of doing this from time-to-time, that's completely tactless on the staff's behalf.

Morning Box!

Today the proposal goes into the client... so I should know soon whether I'll be spending the next *cough* 31 *cough* weeks *cough* in New Jersey....

I would probably just buy the 2GB model (also comes with 250 GB HD instead of 160).

They don't sell NetBooks with 2GB already installed. There are MS licensing issues. You can get the 250GB HD models now, but they re still 1GB. Also, make sure you get the N450 version of the Atom processor, not the N270/280 model. Better graphics on the new ones, too.

Just a warning about the netbook. If you do any serious typing, you will find the netbook's keyboard to be sorely lacking. I own a hospital supplied laptop (ThinkPad) and an Acer netbook. When I am on the road with intentions of doing lots of report writing, the 15 pound laptop comes with me, but if it's only for basic letters or e-mail, the little netbook comes along. If the fiancee is using the netbook for anything other than e-mails, be sure you give the net book a good test ride.

Not my experience. Yes, the keyboard is smaller, but I adjust to it quite quickly. There was one annoyance I had - the home/end keys were Fn+something - but I remapped those to be Pause and Insert and now I type just as fast on the NetBook as on a regular computer. I also have 10+ years experience of switching between systems several times a day and being expected to work efficiently on all of them so I'm pretty good at making the switch. Either way, if it is what you use regularly you get used to it quickly enough.

You just didn't get copies of the fun ones. ;)

Also, for anyone using my search tool, if you aren't using the version that auto-updates itself you really should be. If you are already using that version you should go to settings and click the register link again to get a new code. Lots of good features on the way, including up/down and pageup/pagedown changing the dates, ctrl-up/down changing the date and submitting a new search, *A fixed (best reason to get the update), sharing recent searches between the Win32 and the web (mostly working) and other fun stuff. Get your copy here.

Good , box.

I hate when the phone alarm doesn't go off and wake me up. And I'm supposed to leave for the airport in 21 minutes.....

Posting on FT sounds like me - 21 minutes is plenty of time to shower, shave, get dressed, pack, and out the door.

Which Toshiba did you end up getting? I just picked up a T115D-S1125 myself to replace my netbook.

I'm looking at the NB305-410BL. I really like the 10" form factor (same as the 9" I currently have, I believe). The ability to upgrade to 4GB RAM on the T115D is nice but not sure it is worth the extra cash. Then again, I did get a full refund of the $428 I spent on the first Acer so this is basically a free upgrade. The T115 is also a pound heavier which isn't much but that adds up over time...

Oh, and I need something that is in stock in NYC elsewhere from BestBuy as I will not do business with them and my old Acer is now on a 3x daily reboot cycle to keep network connectivity.

A lot of my colleagues are going with the Acer 11.6" with Windows 7.
