We have an unlisted #, so guessing they just keep calling because it's a number they have and they haven't been hung up on yet. I was a Nielsen family when I was in college. Don't think I was too helpful (all that um, studying kept my tv viewing to a minimum) and I recall filling out a book that I sent in. I was paid, which I am sure is why I did it.

I remember doing the diary thing but for radio back in the early '90s. I've never been called for a political poll.

In theory, you cannot be called on a cell phone for surveys unless you have opted in. I suppose you could have companies that do random dialing.

Theory is good but practice varies. And these calls are exempt from the Do Not Call registry anyway.

Automated attendant does the job quite nicely. If they don't enter an extension, they get hung up on.
