Wow, I never knew an empty 752 could build so much excitement in people. Did FT merge with a.nut today?

I think DEQM does influence more than just FTer behavior. If it weren't the case, I doubt many airlines would bother with such promos to achieve their target levels for elites.

I have noticed no effect on my EUA percentage this year after the extensive DEQM promo last year.

Trick question  -- bumping threads whilst riding the moon buggies is the obvious answer.

Have to have a little fun.

But since the advent of the IAD underground rail system, the buggies serve no obvious purpose. Bumping threads must win for the sheer utility of nostalgia.

I actually wore one of the shirt and tie combos I purchased on New Year's Eve. Had to take them out of the Macy's bag first. :o

Do they really do it to achieve target levels or do they do it in order to stimulate demand during certain periods?

And do you think that they don't know this sort of promo has virtually no influence whatever on many of the heavy business travelers?

G'morning, Box, from sleepy O'Hare. Just me sleepy, not the airport. Sleeping in the terminal last night was a pretty foolish idea. The look on the GA's face when I handed her my DL and asked her to check me in was pretty entertaining, as was the response of the other one who asked how I got inside security.

It stimulates short-term demand and revenues. They don't care nearly as much about having elites as they do making their numbers for a month or quarter.

And the promos do have an impact on business travelers, particularly should one carrier offer and others not follow in markets where they are competitive. It took a while, but UA eventually matched AA and DL on the transcon promo, right? If the promos have no effect why would carriers match?

I agree with this.

True. But IMO only in a few very competitive major markets. Many business travelers have little choice of airlines since they need to go where they need to go and the company that they use is the one that goes that way on the schedule that they need.

The frequent flyer plan and the miles are just a fillip and a bit of extra compensation for all the traveling. The great majority of those who find FF plans very important have already chosen their plan and stick with that carrier unless their company declares differently.
