Can I stay home from work this week? I really don't want to go to Louisiana today. At least it's the last trip there on my schedule for now.

We had a good weekend in DC and found a couple of possible apartments should my partner get the job he interviewed for there and we move.

I have to fly to Louisiana twice this month (next week and the following week).

I didn't want to get up this morning either. ^ to finding potental apartments.

I get to look forward to taking my wife to the airport on Friday so she can go pick up her d:rolleyes:g in PHX and bring him back now that we have a house. Relationships are all about compromise...

This was my thought as well.

We visited several places on Saturday only to be turned away from two of the four we visited because they were "busy." Three of the four properties we were trying to see Saturday were owned by the same company, and we only actually saw one of the three. The other two were less than helpful, and one wouldn't even give us a brochure, telling us they didn't have one. This is a brand new development, still about 40% empty, running specials that include four months free rent and free parking for six months and they are turning away potential residents because they were too busy? We did see one of the three properties in that group, and it was fine, but nothing special, and overpriced for its neighborhood.

The other property we saw Saturday was fine, and we have a friend who lives there, but the leasing agent was not helpful, told us very little, and seemed to want to rush us out of the place as quickly as possible. We later ran into him in the lobby while our friend was giving us a tour of all the parts of the building we missed on the official tour. The leasing agent didn't even bother to acknowledge us.

After a frustrating Saturday, we found several places online in better neighborhoods that looked promising and were open on Sunday. Yesterday's search was much better. We toured two properties, both times seeing very knowledgeable leasing agents who were quite friendly and helpful, and who really tried to sell us on the properties. We'd pay a little more a month for either of those, but also be in a better neighborhood that's closer to many of the things we'd want to go do, and closer to where we'd be meeting some of the friends we already have in the city for socializing.

So now it's just a waiting game. My partner has one more interview to do by phone, and then we'll know. We've also got to do some serious examination of our budget, as our housing costs are going to increase dramatically if we make this move.

Depends upon your budget but I might know a house a little off U.S. Route 1 (near the Brookland / CUA Metro Red Line stop) for lease ...

Welcome to DC. That is why many cross the river to Virginia. Have you explored Old Town Alexandria?

I went further out to Reston when I was D.C. based - could ride the Fairfax Connector from outside my front door to the West Falls Church Metro (Orange line) on days I didn't want to drive. Don't want to think about how packed the orange line trains probably are now during peak hours.

Management just listed a promotion opportunity. A supervisor/coordinator position that reports to my current manager and is a salaried position that pays the same as my current base pay with no overtime. What the :rolleyes:

I think I will pass this one up and continue to pick and choose when I want overtime and not have someone tell me when I must work overtime without being compensated

Yes, you can save money going out to Western Fairfax. But these are not family people looking for the suburban life as are almost all who live out there. Singles and young professionals cluster in the District and Old Town with a few in the Crystal City-Pentagon City area.

You can get a good feel for the area by going to one of the DC Happy Hours and listening to some of them who do live out west and who feel trapped by an inability to sell their townhouses or condos so that they can move closer in and become less geographically undesirable.
