Anything big just happen in Texas? Just heard four F-16s scramble from Ellington.

Went to my local TD branch to deposit tip cash and a paycheck. Did not itemize the single check that was part of the deposit, only to be told by the teller that it's too tough for them to break out the cash and checks. I'm sorry, but doesn't being a bank teller involve adding and subtracting all day long?????

And the taxation issue in VA is a large factor. Since neither of you will work in DC, before you move there do an evaluation of the commuter wage tax and other taxation items. I will bet that if you were to end up in Alex you could save a significant bundle and also have a good neighborhood to enjoy.
We have operated apartments in Falls Church for quite a while and do know a bit about the markets and the wrinkles involved when you rent in Virginia. If we can help with some questions about local customs and procedures, just ask. |

Are income taxes generally lower/higher in Virginia? I couldn't really tell from your post.

Honestly, if we ditch the car, rent issue is pretty much solved. We were planning on keeping a car, and we do have legitimate need for one on occasion, but Zip Car is starting to look a lot more attractive to me. Dumping $500/month in car payment, $135/month in insurance, gas, and maintenance, and avoiding $150+/month in parking fees is pretty attractive to me. We were mainly planning to keep the car to get to family in Olney and to see friends in Baltimore, as well as for larger shopping trips. I'm thinking the idea of a car share service, and just renting a car if we need it for longer periods (I'm usually sitting on a half dozen or more free rental days from National anyway), would be a good way to balance the budget. I've also got about $4000 equity in my car between the loan payoff and a low-balled trade-in value on the car. Getting that cash back from selling the car would go a long way in paying off other debt as well.

Not a bad mail day - received a book (for my event in OMA with Douglass North and John Joseph Wallis), a rebate check, and my M&S Preferred Guest card. Other mail was , including an increase in my escrow by $20 a month (they hadn't noticed for the first five of the year) and far too many documents from the state retirement system - do I really need 4 communications in one day?

As an FYI - if you entered the Priority Club Luckiest Loser contest, you might have something in your account if you had more than 70,000 HHonors points (lowest reported thus far in the thread). I should have received about 10,000 if I were going to qualify but have nothing ...

So DL.com wanted to charge me a change fee of $150.00 on a fare difference of $3.00 when they changed the routing.
An agent graciously waived the change fee. I ponied up the $3.00 |

And while I was visiting Hilton land, the "Complimentary Valet Parking" sign means the valet part is free (not the parking itself).

Co-worker word of day: weasel. And I'm not talking about the cute, furry little animal definition.

Good to know.
Whatever it was, they were screaming. This is also Ellington we are talking about, and they are known within the Air Guard for doing the minimum necessary to stay current. Their Ammo shop came to work with us after 9/11, and our guys were more impressed with their partying skill than their ability to meet the mission. More minutiae on this subject: the only way to know for sure to an outsider that the jets going up are Alert fighters is if you are close enough to tell the difference between live and trainer missile bodies. The Air Combat Command-directed Alert jet weapons load is two each AIM-9 and AIM-120. The 120s are hung on the wingtip stations and the 9s are are on the outermost underwing pylon. Some people do airfares. My thing is weapons. |
