Many employers believe that engineering backgrounds are good for process management/improvement roles because engineers are traditionally considered for having exceptional critical thinking skills.

Now, we all know that in reality, you don't have to be an engineer to have critical thinking skills. In fact, many engineers I know had no critical thinking skills whatsoever, and were generally useless people. At the same time, many other engineers I know are extremely bright and sharp people, and thinking critically is all they know to do (it is a personality trait). A lot of my job involves critical thinking activities, and I've always had an engineering title though I am not a degreed or certified engineer (Olton Hall is).

It's just a lame stereotype that keep good people like Mike from moving up in some corporate environments.

After setting up this computer I've concluded that Windows 7 = ugly.

The only plus side is that this computer has two video cards and one is dual-link. Can anyone say three monitors?

I guess that begs the question, can I triple productivity?

Ugly? I dunno, I like it pretty good. It's way better than XP (which I upgraded from). I wish that my work PC could be upgraded to Win7. :-:

I have five monitors (via two laptops) here at work. I am the nerd highlander. :-:

That title is a big no-no in Texas w/o a Professional Engineers license. I'd get in trouble in TX w/ an engineeri title as I don't have a TX PE w/o it saying what states my PE were in.

I actually love it. Wish I had it on my work computer instead of XP.

I was going to be in the pilot group for W7 at work, but I wasn't eligible because I need a few apps outside the "core" (Office 2007) - even though the apps are W7 compatible.

It's just too convoluted and "feature" rich.

Yeesh... My dad has asked me to update his machine but I'm reluctant to start updating it. It's so old it just needs to be sold for scrap.
