For those who chose to eat the traditional way; only use your right hand please!
As a rendez-vous point I would like to suggest the Hindu temple on Serangoon Road. This is easy because all taxi drivers know this location. It will be a five minute walk form there.
The traditional Indian meal in Little India, Singapore was chosen by the discovery channel as one of the best 10 meals worldwide below USD5. That is saying something because it costs much less then that!

On Sunday at 02.00 we meet for a historical walk. It is Jan. so it might get hot (bring a hat), but it might also rain (folding brully). The rendez-vous point is already set at the Long bar. This is at the Raffles, but not in the hotel, but on the other end of the block, upstairs in the shopping arcade.
Maybe people could let me know how long the walk should be....... we are talking about a walk in a tropical climate.
Thank you miles4all for organizing this. When you say "the Hindu temple on Serangoon Road", you are referring to the Sri Veerama Kaliamman Temple, I assume.

I am definitely up for both the lunch on Saturday and the walk on Sunday.

Thanks for that Restless ^ ; We are indeed talking about the Sri Veerama Kaliamman Temple on 141 Serangoon Road. Although a gwailo myself, this is one of the main Hindu temples in Singapore IIRC. The other main ones are the Sri Thendayuthapani Temple on Tank Road (quiet and a very good one for tourists to visit, close to the Mohammed Sultan nightlife district) and the Sri Mariamman Temple on South Bridge Road, very busy with tourists and a very good location, but there are many more.....

For religion buffs Singapore offers an impressive array of places of worship. The main Sultan mosque on Muscat street in Kampong Glam. The synagogue on Oxley Rise (very close to Tank Street), the central Sikh temple on 731 Serangoon Road (this is quite far down) and to many Christian churches and Buddhist and Taoist temples to mention (some are covered in the walk).

Location of Indian restaurant;

It is a bit difficult for me to work out because I do not know the name of the restaurant, but it should be at 231 Selegie Road (or next door, but difficult to miss). Later I will post my local phone here (not active now).

UPDATE:

The name of the restaurant is Ananda Bhavan and it is very close to the main traffic lights on Selegie road (toward Serangoon Road)

I would like to share a taxi from Conrad to the dinner on Saturday.
Where (in Conrad) and at what time are people gathering there?

Is anyone else staying on Orchard Rd? I'll be at the Marriott.

Although it looks like taking the MRT to the dinner Sat night won't be too difficult, I'm up for sharing a cab if others are interested.

If you check mjm's website referenced on the first post of the thread youwill see that the Conrad gathering is scheduled for 6:30 pm in the bar in the main lobby

I did, but still couldn't find that info. It is not on the main page, nor on the Dinner page. Would you mind directing me to the page?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Possibly... I think there are enough of us staying at the Sheraton to fill 2 or 3 taxis!

I agree, we'll likely have enough people for a few taxis if folks staying at the Sheraton leave from there and not the Conrad. Free weekend nights can do that
