I'm at the Ritz, and if I remember correctly, it is fairly close to the Conrad. Both are in that newish development with the large shopping center. I plan to just walk over and meet up with the other FT'ers for Sat's dinner. Anyone wanting to meet up with me at the RC for a drink in the RC Club, before heading over to the Conrad, just let me know.

Jan: If I decide to take SQ11 to SIN, I will keep the pj for you. Size L? Do you want the amenity kits as well?

Ritz is much nicer, and a big plus if you can get club upgrade.
But I thought the SQ PPS rate is valid till Dec 31st, 2004?

I'll do my best. I may be wrong but I don't think there is M pj's on SQ (BA yes), only XL, L and S. But I have not asked them for M.
Amenity kits for ladies or for gentleman?

The last time I stayed there with the PPS rate, I was upgraded to Marina Bay View courtesy of my Amex. RC normally required 3 nite-stay minimum with the PPS rate for the upgrade.

As for the rate, the old one was SGD250 IIRC. I got the new SGD255 from the latest Priority magazine (1Q 2005).

Sorry you couldn't make it, Guy Betsy.
I was looking forward to finally see you since we didn't get the chance to chat on SQ20 inaugural.

Meanwhile, here is my tentative itinerary:

I will arrive on SQ857 1030-1415 HKG-SIN 15JAN2005
And depart on SQ156 1000-1035 SIN-CGK 16JAN2005
Hotel: Ritz-Carlton Millenia

mjm, thanks to mark me as confirmed.
If there's no major change to my schedules, I will be there.

Should you want to do some further research...

For those interested in a bit of nostalgia about Singapore, you might want to check out your video shop over the holidays for a 1979 feature called SAINT JACK. It stars Ben Gazarra as an American ex-pat who runs a bordello in the city, first on his own, then for the US military [it's Viet Nam time]. However, the charm of this film is that it was shot on location around the former British Colony and you can get a look at the city that used to be. There was only one skyscraper office tower at the time on the banks of the Singapore River and the Fullerton Building was still the central Post Office not a luxury hotel. The major luxury hotels of the day were clustered at the north end of Orchard Road [the Hilton, the Shangri-la], and across the road from Raffles were rows of chop houses, not highrises. Lots of location exteriors, and anyone familiar enough with the city can pretty much identify streets and older remaining buildings even after 25-years. British character actor Denholm Elliott costars, along with a young Peter Bogdonovich, in one of his occasional appearances on the other side of the camera.

Made me want to join you all next month, but must be down in South Africa on my own film shoot. Enjoy.

Have just completed updating the webpage and believe I have inclluded all the details posted since the last update.

Have a look and if I have left anything or anyone off, drop me a note or post to this thread and I shall see to it straight away.

We have a terrific group again this year and I am looking forward to seeing all of you soon.

Sorry to note that transpac will not be able to make it this year, but on the bright side we have a large number of recent members to FT as well as several FT spouses joining us.

So, finally let me wish you all a very Merry Christmas tomorrow!

Mike
