Who I am

I am an the veteran of 56 cruises world-wide. I live in Miami but I also have a place in Exuma in the Bahamas which is one of Delta's newest destinations out of Atlanta. I have been going there since I was 5 years old and I can honestly say that it has some of the most beautiful, peaceful beaches in the world. The little cay just next to Little Exuma is where they recovered the "chest" in Pirates of the Caribbean; Dead Man's Chest. Every year in April they hold the Family Island Regetta which brings in people from all over, including more than the usual celbrities, to watch the native boats race. It is an incredible experience.

My wife has several companies one of which is a wait staff company which brings workers from the Philippines on HsB visas to work in country clubs. Normally the fly Northwest and last year we had the opportunity to fly to Manila on Northwest in Business. It was my wife, her mother/partner and myself. We flew from FLL to Detroit and then on to Japan and then Manila. The connections were convenient and the service was fantastic. I was very impressed. We just returned from Paris on Air France in Business and I believe that Northwest was better.

Ecuador based

We moved from the US 20 years ago to Ecuador. I work part time in the flower industry but our purpose for being here is as so called tentmaker missionaries. I travel to Asia about once a year and Europe and/or Russia two or three times a year, along with South American and North American trips. Most flights are on Continental or Copa.

Hello all,
I am new to this site. I just retired early do to medical reasons. I was introduced to the site from a friend who travels extensively. After telling me about some of the great trips she has taken for next to nothing, I decided to check it out. I love to travel, and now have the free time to do it. Any help or suggestions for me would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to surfing for the great deals and mistakes, and taking some nice trips. Happy hunting......

Just bimbling about.....

Afternoon all, was just bibbling about trying to find a flt to EZE. Came across this place. Looks nice here, might stay a while.

Anyway, in a previous life I worked for a Big Airline in the UK, now with an online travel agency, making the most of AD75s.

flo Nov 8, 2008 2:49 am

Hello

I am not exactly new to this site but given my low post count, that most people probably do not know me plus that I never posted to this thread before, I think I finally found my way to posting here.

My nickname is an abbreviation from my real name, Florian. I am from Vienna, Austria and I'm 23, alas one of the younger members here. I study communication at Vienna University whiles working full-time for a local public relations agency (well ok, they are a part of an international network).

I've been an aviation enthusiast for basically all my life. I took my first flight when I was 8 months old - my parents took me along for a trip to Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia on Singapore Airlines. Over the years I came to fly about all the Singapore Airlines aircraft there were: the DC-10, the 747-200, the Big Top and Megatop, the Airbus 310's they used for their hops to DPS that I took, the Celestar, Jubilee, and in the meantime I also had the chance to take the Airbus 380 and the 777-300ER. The only bird I never took was the Airbus 340-500 and I probably never will because paying long haul business out of my own pockets is, well, pretty damn hard for a student. I was in Singapore Airlines' Young Explorer Club when I was little, had various status membership cards with them and jut recently turned my back on their KrisFlyer program.

I just love flying. Mostly, I travel in Economy Class but from time to time, some Business Class tickets slip into my bookings. Like today ... I will be off for a short hop to Thessaloniki on Swiss Business. Anyway, my first trip in the front is about to happen in April 09. Finally, I will be able to sit in those SpaceBeds and SkySuites I passed as a child, telling my dad that I will be flying in those seats sooner or later. I am glad I snatched a few of those sears on the Megatop 747's as this concludes an era of flying for me. Still, there will be plenty of cities and countries left to visit and I hopefully will be traveling to Africa and Southern America sooner or later in order to having been on all the continents (well, except the Antarctica).

Moving to Tokyo

My wife, son and I are moving to Tokyo, with our dog, from Phila. for about 3 years. We are in the process of searching for a place to live. We are torn with several locations and were wondering if anyone had insight to share. Our son will be going to school near the Shirogane/Takanawa station.

1. There is a nice apt near the school and within walking distance to the Tokyo American Club.
2. There is a apt in Azabu Juban. Great location. Lots of expats with kids.
3. Nice apt. in Roppongi called Roppongi Green Terrace, which is close to train, lots of expats but very, very urban.
4. Fabulous Apt overlooking nature park in Shirogankanedai area, close to the Shirogankanedai station.

We would really appreciate any thoughts people might have.

Thanks.

RichardLC

Welcome to FT, RichardLC! You came to the right place!

You probably are too new to know our Japan Forum (Travel&Dining > Travel&Dining: Destination >> The World> Japan). I believe if you start a new thread asking all the specifics in the right destination forum, the local will be able to help out. You may want to explore our Asia Forum as well.

We have quite a few savvy FTers residing in Tokyo and Japan. I am sure you will get some good pointers from them. Moving the whole family + a pet is a BIG change! If you need advice & info about the travel arrangement& tips, don't hesitate to ask in your new thread. Be as specific as possible (such as your home base in US, travelling dates, hotel/airline status, air carrier..etc), so FTers can "tailor" their advice to suit your needs. Questions about airlines should go to the Airline Programs fora (not sure which one you are flying though).

I am sure you've done quite some research yourself by far. Hope FT can make your big move much smoother. Welcome again! :)

About me...

My name is Pete, and I have been flying for business since Jan 2007. I telecommute for a company based in the San Francisco Bay area. In my job I travel domestically, but I don't really have any routes that I fly consistently. We cover all 50 states.
I recently moved from Allentown PA to Jacksonville FL. I have loyally flown US Airways, but I will be making a change in 2009, yet to be decided.
Love the forum, I find it to be a wealth of information.

Baritone73 Nov 14, 2008 10:16 pm

Hello All...

After several years of anonymous lurking and several months as a silent but attentive member, it seems to me that a brief introduction is long overdue. In my professional life, I'm an engineer for a major US-based corporation and travel several times a year, both domestically and globally. I've logged most of my air time on United and Continental, with a few foreign carriers thrown in for variety.

I've found this site to be both helpful and entertaining over the past several years, and I look forward to participating more actively in the future.

I thought I posted already but now can not find it. I am new to the board, fairly new. I have one daughter who is now in college and wants to start traveling with her mom - how fun is that? We are in Texas and loving it!

Anything else you want to know? Just ask!

First Post

Hi - first time post. Certainly not a road warrior like many here, about a dozen trips a year from COS, some international.

My first question is - which forum would I post to get tips about finding a cheap airfare for my military son who is trying to get home from Hawaii around Xmas.

Thanks in advance...rubicon

DIESEL1337 signing in

Hi Guys.

I just wanted to say hello. I love traveling. Main airport is YYC. Have been numerous times to YVR, YYC, IAH, LIH, OGG, HNL, JFK, SEA, FRA, MUN, OTP.

I am a fan of Tarom, and of Lufthansa. I hope that they will change the a330 to an a340 for Lufthansa 494/495. I am addicted to frankfurt airport. I think it is the most amazing airport on the planet.

Thoughts??

Sorry if i posted in the wrong forums

Hi from German Newbie

Hi together,

being around in this great forum as a silent visitor for a long time, I now finally have my "comming out" as an active member.
I´m 32 yo, living in Munich, Germany.
Through my job as a sales-team leader for Hewlett Packard retail business here in Germany I travel around quite a lot.
Mostly within Germany, Austria and Switzerland, but also traveling to other European countries from time to time.
I use to have about 70 hotel stays, 150 flights and 80 car-rentals.
So overall for sure I´m not on the top of the food-chain of all of you "full-time frequent-travel-professionals", but it´s enough for my wife and our 5yo son missing me during the working week.

Looking forward for my new "hobby" here.

Best regards from winterly Munich,
Andy

Just who am I anyway?

I am a father of four daughters. I don 't travel much right now. I travelled a lot for two years when I was contracting. Back and forth between MSP and that small MHT.

I am not elite anymore, but have a lot of miles saved, which I hope will still be around when I want them in a couple years.

I am a Mask Design Engineer for LSI Corp, formerly LSI Logic, in Mendota Heights, MN. I made a mileage run in 2005 to keep my elite status in 2006.

I enjoy lurking a lot. FlyerTalk is very entertaining, as well as useful.

In my spare time, I play poker, sing karaoke, and play disc golf. I hope to visit my brother in Hawaii (big island) in a few years and play both disc golf courses there.

That's about it for now.

SQ4000 Nov 20, 2008 1:57 pm

I log on to the forum today and got a mild ‘telling off’, something I deserved. So I thought I better pull my fingers out and post something.

Well, a bit about myself. I think that I am lucky to have found Flyertalk, not only it offer me hours of enjoyment and amusement reading various wonderful postings on a subject I love – travel, and the endless useful advice and ideas to make my next trip more enjoyable. It is also the first forum remembers my birthday! It was a wonderful surprise when I receive a birthday greeting in my email. Thank you ([email protected])!

I am very old. Retired from a lifetime of travel financed by HMG (in case you were wondering, it stands for Her Majesty’s Government) and for my holidays. Now I am retired, I still get a nice trip from time to time doing some consultancy work, mainly on China and the East. My trips take me mainly to the United States, and the Far East, with the occasional trips to other parts of this wonderful world of ours.

I use Star Alliance almost exclusively, as its member airlines served most my travel need, most importantly, it provides me with a refuge (airport lounges) whenever I am on the move. On the whole, I think Star Alliance do a much better job than some of other airline alliance, I have experienced a few others.

I am a member of Lufthansa M&M programme; my preferred airlines are Singapore Airline and Lufthansa.

Best wishes to you all

Hello

I'm a 5 year 1K and EXP, and just found these forums today... strange but I never thought to look before.

Anyway-I fly my 1K flight tomorrow *sigh* for year 6

I will not however re-qualify for EXP so that is a sign that things are going better! ;)

FlyingGameBoy Nov 23, 2008 11:06 am

I'm a freshman at college who is pretty big on the gaming scene. I've only flown two times so far, one being a roundtrip from Virginia to Las Vegas, and the last being an international trip between the United States and Russia. I'm going to be flying back home pretty soon since Thanksgiving is coming, but I have a feeling that I'll be traveling much more often as time goes on.

Anyway, nice to see everyone here!

Newbie looking for a preferred seat assignment.

Hello everyone, ahh, looks like only center seats available.

I'm Joe, a roughly 10-year frequent traveler from Tampa, FL.

I primarily fly Delta and stay at Marriott, and have been trying over the past several months to try and hold onto status with both after being laid off for 10 months, re-employed, and slowly getting my travel frequency back up there.

I work in high-tech as an IT security engineer for a company that makes encryption-related products. In my spare time, I volunteer with the Civil Air Patrol - so my aviation interests are both commercial and not. Given the parallels between IT security and physical security, I am always interested in discussions on aviation security (and have unsuccessfully tried to point out flaws to the TSA - but don't get me started...).

I am a technology junkie and am constantly searching for tech ways to make my travel more fun, productive, and entertaining.

My area of responsibility is currently the southeastern US, but in my past jobs I have traveled all over the US, Canada, and to Europe and Asia a few times.

I'm glad to be flying with you. I do wag my finger from time to time, hopefully not too much - don't wanna steal anyone's thunder.. :D

And now, if you'll excuse me... I need to book a rental car for next week's trip to ATL....

- Joe

johnincolumbus Nov 27, 2008 8:07 am

Hey guys, I've been reading this site for a little while, but decided to get registered so I could post here occasionally.

My first love is Airliners.net, buuuuut I don't feel like paying for the membership :-)

Obviously my name is John, and I live in Columbus OH.

Originally from Atlanta, I spent most of my life there, with a few years spent in Ohio for College. Spent about a year living in DC, then moved to Columbus.

Being from Atlanta, my favorite airline is Delta, and I have always enjoyed flying them out of my favorite airport, Hartsfield-Jackson.

I am a starving freelance photographer, but manage to do a fair amount of "traveling" for work here and there, mostly short flights. Someday I hope to have some interesting long hauls to post about.

Here's my flight memory just for the heck of it!
