Hi all, I'm Beau, just learned of this site a few weeks ago and signed up to get tips on an upcoming trip to HEL to visit my family. I'm originally from New York, now living in San Diego. I go to SDSU working on a Finance degree. I fly as much as possible, and love traveling. I work at a wine store here in town and plan on going into the biz full time once I graduate. I'm 24.

Hello All,
I have travelled pretty extensively as a backpacker and seen a fair bit of Europe and North America in my time. I am now lucky enough to travel a bit for work and last year ended up in a conference in Szczecin, Poland. I manage a tall ship in Melbourne and we do a lot of work with not-for-profit groups and schools. I went to Monash Uni and NC State (Go Pack!). Have summered in the Hampton’s, driven a car across Eastern Europe, gambled in Las Vegas, stayed in a capsule hotel, and flown MEL to LHR in J. 26, single and a cyclist, I play dodge the trucks during the morning peak. cheers Rob |
Long time lurker - finally posting. I'm a Satellite Systems Engineer who doesn't get to travel nearly as much as I'd like. Must have something to do with working in a cave all day. When I'm not saving the world, I'm probably outside or teaching swing dancing.
Happy to be here - happier to be there. Cheers! |
Hello! I've been reading at FT for about two years, but posting rarely. I'm just starting to feel like I have some useful info occasionally! I'm sitting in the *Gold lounge at JFK at the moment and thought I should finally introduce myself.
I'm a 38 y.o. woman managing health programs in developing countries for non-profits, currently based in the US. I travel from RDU to Asia several times a year for work, and a few other places for pleasure (this year it has been Costa Rica and England). I lived in Asia for a few years fresh out of college, and didn't collect FF miles - it haunts me now :) Thanks for amassing this library of tips and strategies! |
Long time lurker and member for 2yrs and I see this link for the first time.

this is very overdue.....
I discovered FlyerTalk in 2004 after my first-ever (independent) trip from Australia to Europe. I had read in a Lonely Planet that it was worth joining a frequent flyer program and my travel agent recommended UA.
Bless them, because that Y trip to Europe yielded me enough miles for a trip to Tahiti 12 months later. Needless to say, I was instantly hooked. By this point I was also working for a medical publishing company and managed to collect a decent swag of miles flying QF regularly for business (and a little bit of pleasure) as well as running a lot of expenses through my AmEx. Since 2004 I have traveled through a small part of the US and the Pacific; spent time in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Singapore and India; and am slowly combing my way through Europe. Right now I am living in Vienna, learning German and working on a travel magazine for backpackers. Although my hotel brand of choice is Hilton, my work is rapidly making me a connisseur of backpacker properties! |
Hello all!
I've been a lurker here for years, but only just started to post in the last year or so. Since all my travel is for pleasure, I felt a bit, well, like the retarded step-child :) However, I've realized that most of you don't care, and are warm, wonderful, sick and twisted folk - just like me! I'm 38, married, and living with my husband in Florida. I'm a CPA who prepares tax returns (individual and business), have my own art business (beaded jewelry, digital fantasy art and photography) and work full time at a medical devices manufacturing company as a Financial Analyst. I have 3 cats and a dog (boxer)... each cat has a very distinct personality! I have recently taken my parents in after they retired, and the four of us live in (mostly) harmonic bliss. I am an incurable anglophile, and travel there whenever I can. I fairly drool over anyone with a british, scottish, welsh, irish, south african, australian or kiwi accent. I love flying, especially when taking off - despite always being in coach. However, some day I will be in First!!! I am also a history buff, especially history from the British Isles. As a result, I like dressing up in medieval costumes with my friends :) We go to ren fairs, have events (100+ people) with full court and bardic circles, etc... fight eachother with padded swords... other strange things. Love love love reading, especially scifi and fantasy, historical fiction. I also teach part time, and have a great time with that (accounting). |

I have learned a ton about the traveling public (though I admit, I thought I knew it all from my years of flying). For example, you hate it when a crew cuts in front of you at security. I am not a "lurker" for the simple fact that it sounds quite creepy. Ask what you must, complain all you want, I will always smile and try to make it better.

Hi Everyone.
I've been on FT for almost 2 years now and fell that I must introduce myself. All my travel is leisure based and its mainly LHR-LAS. I joined UA MP just over 3 years ago and built up a few miles and then *somehow* decided it wasn't worth collecting them and sticking to the same airline. How wrong I was!!! I discovered FT a few months after that thought and everything changed!! Not long after I got a new job (an IT Trainer) that takes me all over the UK and Ireland, and bits of Europe. Picking up on collecting miles and points I stuck with UA (making Premier for the first time) and Platinum in Priority Club. Things got even better from there, with me taking my first ever TATL flight in C (thanks to info off FT), and even managed to takes my Mom in C to LAS. FT paid off once more with me getting Royal Ambassador in Priority Club this year, and also making Premier Executive on UA (even though I've only flown 17K miles this year!). More about me ... I'm 27, single and virtually live in hotels due to my job. I estimate I'll stay about 200 nights away this year from home. (And that's going easy!!). I Love flying and all aspects of it. My last international flight was LHR-IAD-BOS, where I got a Travelzoo rate at IC Boston. Asked by a friend why I went there, I replied 'Because it got me 1P on UA, more miles on UA, plus points in PC, and on my way to RA'. Needless to say he looked at me with a confused face. It was worth it to me!! Next Trip: LHR-SFO-LAS (Sep19th) ... Cant wait!!!! - Once again, thanks to FT (Savage25), I'm riding in C all the way there and back. Next planned Trip: Not quite sure, but planning to burn all my miles on a trip to Japan/Asia/Thailand somewhere for me and Mom. Have met a couple of FT'ers out on their travels and want to meet some more!! Happy travels, and once again, thanks FT ... I'd still be riding in Y TATL, and having to pay for the mini bar at IC's if it wasn't for you all!!!! |

Newbie on the forum...
Hello everyone, I just joined the forum and I thought this was the thread on which to introduce myself.
I'm French but live in Cork, Ireland. I loooooove to travel and discover new cultures, I have been a US Dividend Miles member for 14 years now (and still not even Silver Preferred !!) and US Mileage Plus for two; my travelling has been mostly between France and the US, which I love. Dream trips: drive coast to coast through the US and stop everywhere to make new friends. Cruise to the North Pole to see the bears. Fly to Japan and see Fuji-San and blossoming cherry trees. Looking forward to know you all !!! |

I've been a member of a.net for the past several years and I just found this site a few months ago. I've spent hours and hours since I've joined trying to learn as much as I can about the industry, travel trips, mileage runs, and places to go.
Let's see... I'm a 19 year old college student at Duke University. I'm not exactly sure what I want to major in, but I'm leaning toward a Major in Public Policy, with minors in Economics and Political Science. I absolutely love Duke. Go Blue Devils! I lived in a tent for 5 weeks to get into a basketball game, along with over 1000 other students... I'm nearly fluent in Spanish. I've spent 6 weeks studying in Costa Rica and Tarragona, Spain. Starting this fall, I'll be learning Arabic. I've grown up in Portland, Oregon, but decided I wanted to go to college somewhere new and exciting. I first flew on a commercial aircraft when I was around 10 days old because my mom wanted to go to her high school reunion. Since then, I've been fascinated by commercial aviation. I can identify nearly all commerical aircraft and annoy my friends whenever I'm near an airport. I want to get my Pilot's License when I have time. I wouldn't mind working in the airline industry, but I'm currently looking more at foreign service. I'll make FF status for the first time on Delta on my next flight: LGW-IAH-PDX on CO. I look forward to an occassional upgrade and the perks of being a FF flyer when I travel back and forth for school, as well as leisure. I've traveled to 10 countries and currently I'm spending the summer studying international relations at the London School of Economics. In the next year, I hope to travel as much as possible with potential trips to Mexico, Israel, Europe, and somewhere in Africa to do volunteer work, as well as spending a semester or next summer in Egypt, Morocco, Spain, or Argentina to perfect my language skills. Please send me a pm if you want to know more! I think I've rambled long enough, not to mention I have my final tomorrow. |
Hello everyone!
I just found this site and I am learning a LOT! Like the poster above me, my first flight on a plane was at 10 days old. I am considerably older than 19 though! :-). I am in my late 30's and possibly the last generation to remember Braniff. Before I venture in the world of Mileage Runs I would like to know if there are any ex-Braniff people on here? I call myself "Braniff-brat" from the term "Army brat, Military brat, etc." I am SURE there have to be some more 30-40 somethings out there who flew with their parents on Braniff. My father worked Reservations from 1956 to 1982 at DAL and then DFW. It is really sad that the majority of people now have never heard of BN and remember the "flying colors." Just wanted to say "hi!" |
Well, I'll jump in.
I'm a lawyer (boo-hiss) and worked in insurance defense for a number of years. Now I'm practicing criminal law for the state and keeping the bad people off the streets. Mrs. Andyandy and I live in a 1916 bungalow with our two dogs and four cats. We love to travel, and Flyertalk has been an invaluable resource to us. After years of lurking, I'm trying to be a bit more active in the forums. |
I just noticed this thread via the latest newsletter from FT. Since I've been a member here for a few months, it's past time for me to do an 'intro'.... so:
I've lived in the Deep South of the USA most of my life, with military locations thrown in like Bagio and Angeles City, Philippines; Tumon Bay Guam and Korat City Thailand, thrown in. I tried to grow roots on Ipanema Beach in Rio, but my company drug me out of Brazil by the ankles. I miss that place. Badly. I've worked as an FM announcer, TV newscaster, golf instructor/semi-hustler, industrial electrician and now, as a Well Analyst for one of the major offshore E & P companies. This latest assignment has me landing frequently (13 landings/12 take-offs yearly) at DLA, NSI and SSG. I travel normally through CDG, ZRH, AMS, RTM and FRA with the usual airlines-driven diversions through LOS, BRU, LGW, LHR and once - SNN. Tough day that was, having to spend 17 hours in the near-by Harps brewery tavern, just above the plant floor. With 18 Redbook models headed to Zurich on a connecting flight. Tough, wasn't the word for that trip. My travel points in the USA are numerous, with ATL and JAN my most frequent points of interest. I play golf in my off-time in the great state of Mississippi, with ventures to Louisiana and occasionally, Tennessee. I used to be heavily involved in hard-point tournament darts, but now that I've moved to the capital city of MS, no more. My wife and I have four grown children, although my she debates many fine points about that issue, on a constant basis (the "grown" part). I'm a voracious reader of the odd murder mystery and historical fiction, consuming about 15 paperbacks every 4-week hitch I'm in West Africa. I enjoy messing around on political discussion boards, as well as one musician's board - and this one. I am one of two admins on a local community portal in Jackson MS, but sadly that's dying a slow death. Thanks for letting me in the door here at FlyerTalk. Great, great boards where I've both learned a lot - and enjoyed the humor and fun, here. |
I am a brand new member to this forum and site.
To be brief, I am a student pilot and have been studying aviation for 23 years. I currently hold a student certificate with 17 hours and am working to become a professional pilot. When I'm not working, I can be found doing flights on the computer using Flightsim 2004 flying for United Virtual Airlines. We can be found at http://www.united-virtual.com for any of you interested in joining us. I look forward to chatting with you soon. |
Hi all, I've been an FTer for a number of years, most active in the BMI British Midland forum. So, here's an intro about me:
Name: Neil Age: 32.75 (the extra bit was important when I was young!) Occupation: Disaster Recovery Analyst with UK based bank I do most of flying via work but that tends to be limited to UK, so when travelling abroad it's out of my own funds. My next pleasure trip is an F class redemption with LH from Frankfurt to Dubai. I'm very excited as it'll be my very first time in F. I'm always happy to meet up with fellow FTers and always place my schedule in the Itinerary section so do drop me a note if I'm on one of your flights. Have yet to attend an FT do so if you're running or know of one, please drop me a note. Regards Neil. |
Just a bit older thahn the last time I posted, but still the same ole me. That is - - an ole redneck cowboy from Texas who has spent TOO MUCH time in one of those there silver tubes . . . . :p
|
Who am I?
I am a sales engineer for a software company who travels the world on both business and pleasure. I have been an AA EXP, but took a two year work vacation in Australia and did not keep up, so now am a PLT with 82k BIS miles this year (only 18k more till I am back up front). A majority of trips are to the Bay Area, but I have touched down in every state in the Union except AK. I am hoping business will bring me there soon! I base most of my restaurant decisions on rewardsnetwork.com where I add to my AA miles, which are currently at 940k total mileage flown, but I didn't have a FF account prior to 2002 (begin floggings here). This is my travel map of where I have been: My travel map |
I have been a member since April 07 and just noticed this post as well.
My name is Gigi and I am an executive coordinator for a non-profit association. I handle all of the travel and regional meeting planning for my company. I have only been coordinating the travel for about a year and love the resources here at FT. I am a daily reader, okay...several time a day, and occasional poster. I find the site invaluable in all manner of topics and am very appreciative of all the moderators and experienced flyers here. My number one hobby right now is poker ;) and reading is the second. I travel 4 or 5 times a year for business. Most important, because of FT I managed to get my CEO to Gold status on AA this year. Now to get him to PLT! Thanks everyone, Gigi |
Unemployed in Michigan, er I mean between positions.
Pleasure travel to Europe once a year, Canada about 3 times a year and one domestic (USA) trip each year. I am older than some and younger than others. Completing a Masters degree in the humanities this semester (anyone know of any propective jobs for me?) Happily married 25 years in a few weeks, together over 27 years! |
Here's my introduction, after a year on FT:
Location: Northern New Jersey, Bergen County, New York City suburbia
DOB: Just turned 25 Marital Status: single, too busy to be looking, but you know... open to relationships Occupation: manage a small but busy luxury ground transportation service in the NYC area Travel: love it! do it mainly for leisure on my own dime, which is getting really expensive so I'm looking for a "Road Warrior" job currently... but even after getting my Masters in Information Systems am having a hard time deciding what I want to do for a living... if anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears! Last Domestic Travel: Ft. Lauderdale (FLL) my favorite destination, visited the Everglades for the first time (after about a dozen trips in a little over a year) did an Airboat ride and a Gator Show, it was awesome. Some of my previous explorations of South Florida included a road trip to Key West solo... nobody wanted to go with me and I don't blame them, it was super boring. And of course roaming South Beach, everything from Deco Drive to the actual beach I'm a big fan of. Last International Travel: I walked into TJ, Mexico for a few minutes and ended up standing in line for 2 hours on my last west coast road trip. Besides Tijuana I did over 2200 miles driving from PHX to the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego and then back to Phoenix... Had a blast of course going through a US border patrol check point on I8 in the middle of the night... Pets: my sister used to have a cat, but it ran away... it still comes around the house when its hungry. Travel Facts about me: I too would like to start a correspondence with people throughout the world (like Viking above) because as soon as I'm finished with all 50 states I'd like to start traveling internationally and I expect to do most of Europe next year if not sooner, who knows. So if anyone wants to chat PM me here or hit me up on AIM/Yahoo/MSN, my handle is JerseyVics ([email protected]) thanks, --Russ |
Dont think I've posted in this:

I'll have to think of something clever to say about myself... |
I work for a juice company and travel to exotic places like Mitchell, SD and Tyler, TX.
|
In honor of three-letter searching being added to the forums (fora?) today, I'll introduce myself:
Location: South side of Chicago (hence my opposition to a Chicago Olympics in 2016 - the construction will be murder on my commute :p) Age: Sigh - old enough that my younger son just graduated from college (loans almost paid off! :D), not old enough to retire and spend my time on MRs Occupation: Recovering lawyer, thwarted engineer/mathematician => labor arbitrator and mediator Travel: Mostly to the hot spots of IA, WI, IL, OH, MO, and IN for business, with frequent side trips to DCA and LGA for business/family matters, and occasional flings in Mexico, YCC, LIH, BKK, England and points east -- a tough way to keep elite status! Love listening to CH9 on UA - reminds me of flying in small planes back in the day Secret dream: To have an excuse to spend a year in France or Italy at someone else's expense...after taking a 6-month MR to Australia and New Zealand I LOVE FT - I have learned so much that has made my travel easier and more fun! Thanks everyone. |
Hi all,
I've been around FT for a few months now and decided it was time for me to introduce myself to a larger audience :D. Vocation: soon to be graduated grad student Location: CLL (College Station, TX), as it stands now moving to ALB in a few months Interests: tennis, skiing, reading (unfortunately no time for this lately :(), and obviously travel Places I'd like to visit: Tokyo, Moscow and an African safari |
Been hanging around long enough now...
My name is James. I lived my entire life in San Diego, up until August that is. I finally finished at UCSD (B.S. and M.S. in bioengineering) and moved on to more graduate school, this time at Notre Dame (Ph.D. in Biology). Unfortunately grad school has sucked up my resources and I can't fly as much as I would like to, especially since it is all on my dime. I have no idea what I want to do when I am finished, but I figure that will work itself out with time. The only caveat, I want to be able to travel or travel for work. |
my initials are jjj
I was born on 9/23 I now work for a Private Equity Firm in Southeastern Pa. I am retired from the NSA. I have many hobbies and they do not include spying any longer, but I remain very inquisitive. |
