I was a Charter Member here when the place opened and can't recall if I ever posted on this thread. Then my excuse is I'm old. ;)

I used to travel on business 22to25 times per year (mostly Delta) and a few times on leisure. Don't fly as often as I hate paying my own fare.

fiona_ Mar 22, 2015 10:44 am

Hi folks,
I'm fiona, a proper Northern lass, living in Leeds in Yorkshire. I gave up on BA years ago when flybe took over their northern routes. But now they've started flying from Leeds, together with a bit of encouragement from my brother, who has been on the forum for a while now, I'm back on the points trail. So I'm a complete novice and keen to learn from all your collective wisdom. I love a bargain so I've booked a couple of trips based on tips on the forum. So thank you guys!

paliving Mar 26, 2015 3:33 pm

I've been lurking around and posting randomly for 2 years now and happened across this section of the forums for the first time (I usually spend most of my time in the credit cards, manufactured spending, and points/miles forums). I thought it would be a great time to introduce myself....better late than never. I'm Patrick and I'm a Civil Engineer working in Roadway Design in Raleigh, NC. My travel is primarily personal but I hope to have the opportunity to travel for business at some point (although it is somewhat limited in my field). I stumbled onto this hobby right after college and haven't slowed down yet. This place is awesome!

Hi all, I was wondering if there was a place for other frequent flyers and here it is!

I fly every week around Europe due to work so thought I would say hello to some like - minded souls after a pretty busy week. I am based in the UK.

I was in Portugal for the week until yesterday evening then home, for a 4am start today, flight to Athens for a meeting, then a return flight via Frankfurt home. I reckon I'll get in around 1am. Not the best way to spend Good Friday! I have a few days off then away again next Wednesday.

Anyway hello from Europe and Happy Easter!

Gamecock Apr 3, 2015 2:48 pm

Welcome, and happy Easter to you.

Hi! I am a new member here, 26 years of age from Japan.

I love travelling, food, airlines and stuff. I usually travel alone but I am perfectly fine in travelling with friends as well.

Looking forward to meet people here and share ideas. Thanks!

Hey guys, I'm fairly new to FT interacting but have followed the forums for over a year now.

DFW based 25 year old working in finance for a consulting firm (stationary job :( ). I've traveled quite a bit over the years (leisure mostly) but it's the biggest passion of mine. My spare time is comprised of geeking out over planes, places around the world, etc.... and hockey. I would love to get into the travel industry or just find a road-warrior job of sorts someday (cue people talking me out of that).

Y'all have been awesome so far and I thank you for the opportunity to be part of the community!

USAJerry May 1, 2015 8:30 pm

Hey gang.

Low post count but a long time FlyerTalker here.

A little about me. 38 based out of WAS (IAD is preferred). Born and raised out of Virginia. Working in sports media for 17 years (which doesn't pay the bills) but my primary gig now is in insurance (which does pay the bills). I also substitute teach on the side.

I travel to AMS twice a year (February and in the Summer for music festivals) and I usually tack on a trip the Caribbean each Fall. I want to get to Asia though so I'm shortening up my Summer trip this year in hopes to throw in the Asia trip in late Fall.

I LOVE to travel and I also plane-spot in my spare time looking at the different flight tracking apps while listening to air traffic control from around the world.

I'm a big guy so I love food and enjoy it even more in Europe where it tastes more genuine without the additive stuff we get here in the States.

Hello all! Just joined up a few days ago, but can't imagine how having all the knowledge form this site won't help me in my ventures! I sort of stumbled across the idea of using credit cards to help travel early on in college(even though I was taught credit cards are the spawn of satan :P). Now I'm interested in learning more about how to REALLY utilize them as I'm planning to travel to nearly every country.

I'm from a tiny town in Nebraska, but have been to 15 countries in about 8 years and am working on a trip to SE Asia and the Australias in september, so I'm super excited for that. I love making connections so don't be shy to reach out if you want and I can't wait to see you around the boards.

AlisonNichols May 11, 2015 1:02 pm

Hi Everyone! I'm brand new around here but love to travel. Favorite destinations are Florida and Arizona. I'm a mom of 3, so flying gets to be expensive. I'm always looking for good deals to help save money. Looking forward to learning from you all. Hope I can share some good ideas with you as well.

finky099 May 12, 2015 4:39 pm

Hola! I'm also a newbie to the forum. I'm in my late-30's, live in Southern California, I love travel and looking to do more, especially internationally.

I've been lurking through some of the threads in the last day. Fascinated, and also a bit intimidated, with how much I have to learn from people here. Hope to contribute in my own way, whatever that might be. See you around!

EtoileFilante May 13, 2015 11:08 am

I have been on this forum for awhile, but never officially introduced myself... oops!

My name is Erica, and I'm from Chicagoland (more specifically, the NW suburbs); in a former life on this forum, I was eriquita0115, but I somehow ended up with two accounts, and subsequently merged them both into this one. I grew up here in Chicagoland, and also lived in France twice. Currently working as a Project Manager for a company in the Western suburbs.

My favourite travel destinations are Montreal and Argentina. This year, I'm going to Colombia and Panama and cannot wait! A trip to the Dominican Republic is on deck for next year, and I hope to visit Montreal again sometime this year or next.

All of my trips are possible thanks to collecting miles, so that's why I'm here. It's nice to be in a community of like-minded people!

See you all around :)

Hello all!

I am Damir, from Croatia. I am 33 years old and my favourite football player was ex-Dinamo player Sammir, so that's where my nickname come from.

I found great stuff on this forum so I decide to join the community to share with you some information I have.

asmasha Jun 17, 2015 11:46 am

Hello!

My name's Ashley and I live in Southern California - born and raised - but looking to relocate in the next 12 months. I've worked in Finance but I'm now in Operations.

I've been reading the forum for a while and hacking when I can. Most recently I used my miles/points for a 3 week rail trip for my husband and I around France, The Netherlands & Switzerland as a 30th birthday present to myself!

I'm hoping to learn and add valuable advice. I also hope to meet others in Southern Cali!

Estoril777 Jun 30, 2015 12:11 am

Hello all,

Joined FT a few weeks ago. Haven't lurked or anything before but this place looks like an incredibly thorough resource for anyone willing to do some detail research on anything travel related

I'm in the Dallas Fort Worth area and work in the commercial aerospace industry. Love traveling and am planning some big international trips soon. There has literally never been a better time to travel than now, just the number of flights/hotels and affordability is incredible and pretty much unthinkable just 20 years ago.

I hope to learn a lot here and contribute whatever I can!

wmweeza Jul 8, 2015 11:44 pm

Weeza here. I'm a tiny business owner, book addict, Criminal Justice nerd and owner of a zoo of pets. I currently live in California but will always count Seattle as home

Lussac Jul 10, 2015 8:23 am

I've also posted this on the New Member thread:

Actually joined some time ago but only just noticed this topic. Retired now but ex seasoned traveller (BA Gold in the 1990's) so it's only leisure travel now. Always had an interest in airlines/travel and I worked on the ABC World Airways Guide (computerising the transfer connections) in 1970-2 also did some work at SAS in Stockholm on the reservations system in the 1980s as well as some reservation work at Olympic Airways in Athens integrating ferry bookings with the airline reservation systems. Recent travel has been to NZ where our daughter is now living and will be going again in Feb on CX with a stopover in HK. I apologise for some of the rather inane questions that I might have asked on the CX board but it's been along time and my brains going I think.....

Actually, you did post in this discussion several times before it was merged from several different threads — with the first time being on March 15, 1999.

Welcome back!

Vindobona Jul 28, 2015 4:11 am

Hi! I'm a 26 year old PhD student from Vienna, Austria.
I'm passionate about travelling, photography and scuba diving.
I've travelled to ~50 countries and lived in 4 different countries.
When I fly, I mostly stick to Oneworld (Emerald status), but from time to time I also fly Star Alliance or SkyTeam. All my flights are leisure-only.

GatoAndaluz Jul 30, 2015 6:39 am

I'm based in Washington DC, although travel very frequently for work (visas for the US and banking compliance - boring). This year, it's been mostly Mexico City. Last year, it was India, UAE, and Lebanon. In the near future, I'll probably be working in Cuba quite a bit, since there's a lot of work to be done in my field re-establishing connections between the US and Cuba, and I'm a Spanish speaker.

Any of you need advice about DC, I'm happy to help.

MojaveFlyer Aug 4, 2015 6:17 pm

Never posted here, but I've been around for a while. I'm near retirement at a major university in Boston. When I was 19 I left the country on a Freddie Laker charter to Gatwick for $80 and spent the next five years wandering around Africa and Asia, almost exclusively on land, a lot of hitch hiking and backpacking. Those were, by modern standards, very safe years for Asian travel; ah the old "Hippie Trail" from Istanbul to India, I knew it well.

Starting in the mid 80s I flew a ton for my job. I was doing a lot of transpac travel and after TWA lost my baggage and was very snotty about it, I ended up flying UA enough to get status and then of course the world changed and I was hooked. Later was semi-commuting to the Bay Area and picked up Million Miler status. Ah those were the days when status really meant something, and fun to be greeted by name and know half the staff at my home station of BOS.

These days I fly more for recreation than work. For years have done a lot of family hiking and back packing in the western US so most vacation time includes flights and car rental. So although I'm not big on international urban destinations these days, my kids have all flown a lot since they were babes; but I'm still the family travel agent!

There is so much collective knowledge here on FT... I recommend the site to all I meet who travel a lot. I've saved a lot of $$$ based on advice here, and I'm sure I've avoided some nasty screw ups with tight connections, etc. What a helpful lot here, always get great answers to questions, and try to give back when I can.

I really think, if more people traveled and experienced different cultures, found themselves in need of whatever and got helped by those of different skin color, religion, and language, we'd be so much better off as a species!

lorelai Aug 27, 2015 4:35 am

I didn't even know this thread existed until now. I suppose I shall introduce myself, in a belated manner!

My name is Lorelai, I live in Sheffield in the UK, late 20s (to early 30s), I'm a HR manager so nobody likes me at work, and my interests involve travel, reading, country and folk music, meditation (essential for a reduced-stress life) and my husband and cat.

EnglishSmoke Sep 16, 2015 2:03 pm

Hi guys!

I got into miles and airline status about half a year ago. Sadly to late to credit my multiple Europe-Asia trips to M&M... I havn't travelled to much this year due to work beeing more centralized now. I just had some european international flights and sadly not enough for M&M status.
I discovered Aegean on the Internet and immediately regretted putting my miles into M&M.
I talked to my Dad about my new obsession with miles etc. and as it turns out, he used to be a SEN and still holds FTL thourgh the Oil and Energy Club. I recently travelled with him and he really doesn't use his benefits and was surprised when the Person at eco check-in told him that he could have checked-in at the business counter.
My first ever business class flight was abourd a swiss md-11 to Miami. Great stuff!
My goal for next year is to achieve *g with A3. I hope I'll actually get round to it..

You might have already guessed it: I'm from Switzerland :)

Where2Next Sep 20, 2015 9:24 pm

Just joined officially!

From Seattle, never travelled growing up so trying to catch up! Frequent traveller for business (aerospace) both domestic and international. Actively developing a love for street photography and snap everywhere I go. I travel alone but love meeting new people and developing instant friendships around the world. Hoping to instill the love for travel with my two little boys so they appreciate and embrace diversity and aren't afraid to go out and explore. Oh yeah, I'm also a huge Seahawks fan, so I won't travel during a game #HardLimits.

plinth857 Sep 22, 2015 12:33 pm

Pretty new here. I'm Cleveland born and bred, and this is where I make my home. I fly at least once a month as a military reservist, so I mostly stick to one route (CLE to Dallas/Ft. Worth). However, I love to travel elsewhere whenever possible.

This site is great for learning the ins and outs of commercial travel, and has been a great resource thus far.

undergrace Sep 28, 2015 10:07 pm

I didn't know this thread existed either!

I'm Christina, I'm in my early 30s, and I live in Texas but my birthplace and heart are on the West Coast. I love love love to travel. I've been to 43 states and 24 countries, with 4 more countries being added next month :D All of my international travel has been 100% leisure and within the past 7 years. I work for the state government so there is zero opportunity to travel for my job so I have to fund it all myself. I've been happily married for over 3 years and thankfully he is willing to go along for the ride. I also love passport stamps, sushi, scuba diving, Harry Potter (I buy them in foreign languages when I travel), and making new friends from other countries. I would love to get to know some people from this board :)

Rdenney Oct 1, 2015 10:08 pm

Thank you all for being a resource on many occasions over the years. At the rate travel is getting harder, I may need a support group to avoid insanity, so I finally signed up.

I travel on Gubmint business (and for many years in the private sector) and have about 500K on American (from when I lived in Dallas) and 550K on United, in addition to the 100K or so spread across Southwest, Delta, and so on. I average about 70K per year, but because it's the Gubmint, they are spread across several airlines. I have the miles this year for UA Gold but not the PQD's (prolly $5200 by year's end), so will probably drop back to silver, which. just. sucks. I usually need at least one Alaska trip to reach UA Gold, given the constraints of government fares, but I didn't make it there this year. Much of my travel is up the Northeast Corridor and so I've been on Amtrak half a dozen times this year, which further ate into the UA goal.

I have half a million points with Hilton and much less on their competitors. No problem maintaining Diamond for me.

I use a government travel card and therefore have no extra tricks for padding my frequent traveler accounts.

The transit systems in Atlanta, Washington, New York, and San Francisco ought to pay me FSP--frequent suffering points--and I carry their cards in my wallet all the time. No status with rental car companies therefore, but they all suck even with status these days. Government travelers rarely get to rent a car, or at least a car that will contain one whole human.

I hate checking bags and can fit a fortnight of stuff into my raggedy old PNT roller. Between it and my briefcase, who needs a gym?

Anyway--Hello.

34 years old here, born in Los Angeles but grew up in the South US (Biloxi and Memphis) and finally moved to San Diego 9 years ago, which I now call home.

I got into this by researching how to pay for my mortgage (got my first homr in dec. 2014) using a CC. That got me into a thread on here about the Target Prepaid Red Card and the rest has been history. I've opened up all kinds of CC's and have met minimum spends, and track all of my awards thru awardwallet.com ... I even dabbled in the GC to MO route but my local grocery stores stopped accepting GC's or debit cards in general for MO's.

I would love to meet up other MS'ers in the San Diego area and discuss new ways to MS and maybe even just ways to earn the most miles. Please reach out to me if interested, heck even exchange emails or threads on here first if you want ... I just want to learn!

Cheers!

mdovenmuehler Oct 7, 2015 10:29 am

well here I am. Name is Mike Dovenmuehler, born and raised in Jerome Idaho. Work at a hvacr wholesale company and outside of that I own my own online business and I am a secret point player lol.

Ive been here reading and listening and learning for a long time and I love this place. It has really opened my mind to great ideas as well as given me a huge learning curve with msing, credit cards, smart choices and so on. I enjoy playing the points game on a level where im earning and not spending like some enjoy.

Id love to meet with others however crazy as it sounds either everyone where I live is in hiding and wont come out to share or I am the only crazy person in my town. Very small towns here, Twin Falls is a town next door being a pop of 50k is all :). Its 2+ hours to the nearest actual city, so any churning or vgc runs I have done have always been easy, fun and all the ladies and people I see when doing it know me and I know them and its a good laugh everytime.
