My name is Tony. I am an international traveler. I live in Ormond Beach Florida. I am a million mile flyer on United. Over the years my travel has taken me to cities in America, Australia, Europe and Asia. In the future, I am looking forward to visiting cities in South America and China.

Unique gifts, artifacts and foods

Hi, my name is Nelly and like all of you, I love traveling and have always been up for an adventure, embracing my surroundings. I starting developing an idea that began when my father and I traveled to Honduras after my uncle passed away. In order for my dad to escape, he decided to take me around the different towns where in just a matter of miles, life was different. Ive always been interested in film and with the help of my boyfriend, Oscar we finessed this idea of travel and lifestyles while incorporating a father and son who with the crew create a unique dynamic that anyone can relate to.

Nice to meet all of you!
Happy Travels!

ChrisMcWhitton Aug 24, 2013 1:13 pm

Hi, my name is Chris. McWhitton is not my real last name. :)

Anyway, I work for a medium sized business specializing in 3D printers. All my vacation travel is free using points acquired from business travel. Fortunately I have a good travel policy (one reason being that I manage a team of about 15 people). I live near DEN and usually fly UA but sometimes Frontier. I have so many UA miles that I can sometimes fly the competition and not worry about it. :)

Hi, I'm James from Los Angeles. Born and raised in Oregon, I moved down to Southern California for school I quickly fell in love with the weather (and the beautiful people) and never looked back. Currently work in Public Service in the LA area.

I love my day job and I love traveling. Luckily, government employees are afforded plenty of time off which allows me to enjoy my love of traveling.

New to Flyertalk and the travel blog community. Just joined today. :-) *Waves*

My name is Steve and I live in Sydney. Trying to find a way into the airline industry - it's never too late for a career change! All tips gratefully received; I have been in IT project management for several years now and believe that these skills are very transferable into the airline industry....

Just joined and getting around isn't all that easy

Funny for a travel site, and given that I do cover a lot of miles / continents, I can see there are over 10K people online, but it isn't so easy to navigate around and find you all! I know it's just part of the learning curve :)
About me - reached my half century (just) and doing more travel than ever before. Keen to learn form the experience of others, and also to meet up with folks in person (like lounges, and maybe even 'Do's").
The slightly unusual thing about me is that I am a transgendered female. Or, if you like the "T" in "LBGT". I say 'slightly unusual' as it's getting a lot more press these days - which is usually good (there are still some negative stories of course) - and it's not so "hidden" as it once was.
I like to chat to lots of people, and understand their life story, and what makes them different.

Air miles Scavenger

Hello all -

I've been a lurker for a while... trying to get ideas that can add to my air miles account. I've had a decent run with air miles through Delta over the years as I had several businesses where I was able to make AMEX purchases adding a good 50,000 miles to my Skymiles account (now 60k is needed to go overseas!) by the time I was able to see my way clearly to disappear for a few weeks. But all that has changed now that I am retired, on top of that my wife, who isn't a bit interested in travel and would clip my wings if she could, is more interested in rebates from Costco AMEX than adding a few paltry miles here and there for me to spread my wings and fly. My last air miles trip was last year and I have almost drained my account. Very possibly my next trip will be to Singapore - then overland to HCMC where I'll fly back home - (cost around $1,060.00) - that'll add 17k to my air miles account giving me almost enough to get an air miles trip to Europe next spring.

I've flown here and there on other airlines domestically but not enough to get serious about collecting air miles. Perhaps I need to rethink another company besides Delta.

Who I am

New here...I'm a retired American living in Nepal. I blog about life here and all the great reasons to put Nepal at the top of your bucket list.

Nepal is one of the best kept secrets on the planet. I have to ask myself why a country like Finland gets 5 million visitors each year while Nepal can't quite get to a million. Yes, I love the Finnish, but dang! Nepal has Mt. Everest and more gods and temples per square meter than any place on the planet.

So, that's me, an expat who fell in love with her new, host country.

Been posting on FT for a while now but have never contributed to this thread. FJFV here, born and raised in Québec, Canada but living in NYC now. I'm a few years short of 30, work in commercial real estate acquisitions and split my flying between my love of travel and real estate. I'm always on the move, be it on a plane or on a bike. I compete in triathlons and have completed a few Ironman distance races. I have family in Switzerland and Germany, so I try to get to Europe at least twice a year. My favourite part of travel? Trying new regional beers!

Welcome to your first post on FlyerTalk!

Try signing up for some of many cc programs available to you, and talked about on FT. Try a reward flight and see if you don't get hooked on it. I've learned personally alot here on FT, and I'm collecting more miles, trying more different types of hotels than ever before.. and quite enjoying it. Its a learning curve for all of us. We're all here to discover how our travels can improve.

Hi

Hi everyone, my name is Tom. I graduated college about 2 years ago and spend some of my time on a rig for an oil company. I love to travel but I loooove feeling like I got a good deal on something. I'm more inclined to purchase something for a good price even if I don't necessarily need it. It's a fun hobby that is beginning to take more and more time!

telabadmanwot Sep 2, 2013 7:10 am

Hi everybody, my name is Doctor Nick Riviera. Hahah not really im a Marketing project manager, but im not here to sell you anything so please be nice to me.

I love travelling, only recently have I signed up to a few loyalty programs (HHons, BWestern, Skywards and Accor), which I wish I did a LOT sooner, I have been reading this forum for quite a long time and well I guess its time I contributed some of my finds to help others and hopefully get some help from the veterans.

Saphira2021 Sep 5, 2013 1:00 pm

Hi, my name is Saphira2021 and I am new here. I don't fly often, but do love to travel. I was always stuck on getting my cash back on my credit cards, but just recently, with some posts from someone here on another forum, realized what i have been missing. so looking for a place where i can get advice on the best ways to earn free miles, what credit cards do best, other tips and tricks.

I have traveled quite a bit in my life and can't wait to get going again. Live in NJ USA now.

looking forward to learning all the ins and outs.

wilful Sep 6, 2013 11:24 am

Who am I

Wilful from SoCal. My bride and I used to travel a lot, but having a grandbaby here part time, along with my bride still working full time, cuts into travel time.

Someone on Trip Advisor suggested I bring my particular travel experience here.

We have traveled extensively around the globe for decades - and have only had one rather unpleasant experience.

ianpage Sep 7, 2013 9:46 pm

Australian, formerly resident in Sydney for 30+ years, now living in Seattle. Many trans-Pacific flights, especially in last 10 years. Also love European travel.

Acornragazzo Sep 8, 2013 3:25 pm

Acornragazzo here. I've lived in Mexico and the US. I travel all over with the dance company I work for. I've spent a lot of time in Germany over the past few years and I'll be moving to Köln in the near future.

MrKaba Sep 9, 2013 1:27 pm

I'm a Scot from a little town in the middle of nowhere, but I recently moved to France for work. Formerly a budget airline lover, I've only recently got in on the loyalty game. I travel primarily for leisure and love taking the scenic route - as long as it doesn't take too much longer!

blackdawn2 Sep 12, 2013 9:37 pm

I'm blackdawn2 from St Louis. I used to be top tier on TWA but now I fly AA less frequently but make more money. So now I can just buy AA tickets and do a mileage run if I need more miles.

23 years and still going Navy guy here. Seen plenty of the blue marble from the blue ends... Despite my 'worldly' travels, it seems I might be a relative newbie amongst this crowd.
I know it is crazy- but when I shift gears from Navy blue to Corporate Blue, I'd really like to get into a gig with heavy travel requirements. I welcome (and thankful for) any pointers/advice in finding such jobs!

Be good!

Hello my name is Bryan. I love traveling by air. It is fast, easy, and saves time. I live in the USA. Travel mainly within the USA

Teamstone Sep 16, 2013 12:29 pm

Welcome and thank you for your service Curtis,

Depending on your skills and interests, if you are thinking corporate blue, I recommend heading for the next four years to college and take advantage of the benefits you have earned.

Once complete with a BA, jobs in sales, engineering, and IT can all be leveraged to travel for business.

Now if college isn't your thing? Careers with major companies that have clients (but not service centers worldwide) might be the way to go. I'll be honest, I am not an expert on this area but have met many blue collar on different flights. I also know there are security services that some former members of the military have signed up with.

Another option is the foreign service. This was an option I looked at but did not pursue.

Good luck!

Thank you for the welcome and vote of confidence!
My most recent assignment was with the NAVSEA organization as a field representative (yes, the same organization featured heavily in the news the last few days). This job was essentially an internal audit/oversight type of duty and I found myself flying quite a lot for site visits for inspections/audits/etc.

While I am a Naval Officer, I got here without a degree- but will be finished with a BS (Engineering Technology) degree and may be complete with the MS (either Organizational Leadership or possibly MBA)

Kids are done with college (that's where I spent my benefits- Post 911 GI Bill allowed me to transfer it to them...). I am divorced, and I have an absolute THIRST for air travel.

Good thing is, I have some time to coordinate the degree(s) before I finally retire- and this gives me time to get familiar with what sorts of jobs can help satisfy that thirst!

Thanks again for the welcome and vote of confidence!

Be Good!

Welcome again Curtis,

You are a little "greyer" around the ears than I was first imagining. So am I, or as my hair stylist says, I used to be salt and pepper, but now I have lost my pepper.

You can likely leverage the internal audit and oversight in many ways. In fact, my current role is that of Vendor Audit, where I go out an make sure our vendors are protecting our information the same way they have agreed to contractually. My specialty is the technical controls.

I am sure you know this, but Network, Network, Network in your current position. Get all of your contacts from your current travels and companies you come into contact with into your LinkedIn.

I am biased (since I also have one) but I think an MBA is a great way to go. Nothing against Organizational Leadership also though. Combining the technical and educational skills with the business skills of either MS will make you a stronger candidate.

Good luck

Tom

It's about time I posted an introduction of myself, as I certainly spend enough time browsing the site and forums.

I live in Florida and have a somewhat strange job title, but I'm basically a training coordinator/manager for one location of a large consumer products manufacturing company. I'm recently engaged (to be married in Summer 2014!) to the love of my life and look forward to years of traveling with her, now that my eyes are opened to the world of points and miles. Admittedly, I was a "cash back only" guy for years, but I've sense seen the error of my ways.

Some unique little tidbits about me:
1) I have 1 cat, 3 ring neck doves, and 1 hedgehog
2) I really enjoy hiking, backpacking, and camping, but rarely get to participate in these activities since taking on my position with the organization where I work, due simply to time and my commute.
3) I'm a guy, but hate sports. I simply can't understand why people are so interested in following "their" team. Don't flame... it's just the honest truth :-P
4) I love researching products! People think it's crazy, but I really do enjoy looking into which products are best for different situations.
5) I have a phobia of being late. It's to the point that I generally show up >30 mins early to [non-work] related appointments/functions/events. Weird, but true.

Well, that's a high-level version of "me" with a few intimate details thrown in. If y'all want to know more, let me know... I really like the crowd here!

Welcome. What part of Florida. I have just purchased a place in Port Charlotte.

Who we all are

Wow, 194pages to a post that was started 15 years ago when Internet access was preceded with a long frustrating wait accompanied with that awful dial up noise (and all phone conversations had to stop!!)

My first flight was on CX from TPE-HKG (yes, still Kai Tak!) I'm guessing in 1989. And I've not stopped flying since! Taiwan-born, immigrated to the Netherlands, then moved to the UK, then back to NL, and finally crossed the Atlantic to Canada five years ago to study air (and space) law! Now I work for a journal related to aviation (and space).

I've got family in Asia and Europe, which makes flying (and "going for gold"!) part of my life. Funnily enough, it's only in the last five years, thanks to a dear friend, that I've really paid attention to loyalty/frequent flyer programmes... Oh, all those miles I'm missing from all those years of flying earlier on! Four years *Gold and counting... "I've earned it!"

Love the excitement of flying (and traveling), especially that exhilaration and buzz of an airport with all these people coming and going. (Ok, ok, there's also a buzz skipping before "the great unwashed" in the priority line at checkin (and at times security...))

Must have a window seat to admire how vast and beautiful of this amazing world is and take in the changing colours of the skies as the plane jets off to another far away destination. So many more places to go, so many more flights to take, so many many more stories to share! :)

Hi

Just joined and I wanted to say hello. I'm a grad student in Santa Barbara and will be completing my PhD in the next two months. I'm getting married next year and and currently I'm planning our honeymoon. I figured it was time to come out of lurking mode.

I know you didn't mean it that way, but it's Friday afternoon and the juxtaposition :D just hit my funny bone.

Congratulations and best wishes to you and your lucky spouse, and welcome to you and all the new members.

Hi all. I'm originally from upstate NY (Syracuse and Rochester), I just relocated to Seattle about 6 months ago and I'm loving it. I do a lot of domestic travel for work and to see family back on the East Coast, with a few international trips a year to Europe and Asia. I've flown UA for years but with the move to Seattle and other factors, Delta is much more appealing, and I'll be starting from ground zero with them in the upcoming year. I'm already looking at mileage runs :) I'm an engineer at a consumer products development consultancy, a foodie (one of the reasons I love Seattle), and a lover of the outdoors and hiking (another reason).

I'd love to meet more Seattle FTers around town, so please feel free to message me to meet up for happy hour, coffee, whatever.

Hey guys/gals! Long time lurker here, about to graduate from business school in Canada. Landed myself a consulting job based out of Toronto, with a lot of travel attached, so I figured I'd sign up and start contributing/asking questions. Can't wait until I start collecting miles!

Like AC, LOVE Westjet, but my favourite airline has to be Cathay Pacific. Flew them once, and got an upgrade because I'm tall...one of the few times I've appreciated being tall in an airplane :)

Also like to run marathons and swim, so I'm interested in triathlons, but I've never done a full one before.
