international traveller
Based in Aberdeen - travel frequently throughout Europe, Mid East, Far East, N America, Central Asia.
Prefer routing through Schipol rather than Heathrow. |
Finally de-lurking! I'm based out of San Francisco (love those fog delays) and fly frequently for my job in tech (mostly to Asia - at least 1x a month), internationally and domestically. Huge plane nerd. Looking forward to participating in the forum!
I went to UCLA and studied international development; now working in SF after a stint in Africa in the Peace Corps; have traveled to over 30 countries. Married to United given my home airport - hit 1K in a few months this year. Fly their *A partners all I can (shoutout to ANA; used to be Asiana but since July, not so much.) Outside of travel: I run marathons and am traveling for an Ironman, which is super easy when traveling internationally all the time. Not. Would love tips from anyone who does it! |
Welcome to all that have recently introduced themselves !!

Wow... goes to show you all the corners of FT you know nothing about without exploring.
Joined recently after constantly getting FT in the google results as I searched how to navigate my new UA status. I don't fly for work (with the exception of job interviews, but hopefully those don't keep happening) but being single with family all over the country (8 states, all four corners of the 48) I'm the one who travels. I've always been interested in aviation and never minded traveling so I'm enjoying it while it lasts and have no idea what's next. FT has been a great resource and I'm definitely interested in getting more into the community aspect. Which led me here as I read over the SS announcement. |
Who we all are
another long time lurker, first time poster here. :)
I'm a consultant I'm based out of LAX, most of my travel is to BOS but lately been going to the ORD area. I fly ~150k miles a year, so far this year I'm at 130k. I'm a miles/points hoarder and now that I'm recently married my husband wants to start using them up before we have a family. so, I'll be looking for tips on redeeming them as if never actually done it in my 4 years flying so much.... |
Looks like this is where the n00bs are supposed to introduce themselves. :D
I have recently joined the ranks of status flyers for the first time (DL Silver Medallion) and looking for ways to take advantage of that. I mostly fly for pleasure (trips, visiting relatives, etc), and I know that getting enough miles to maintain the rating is going to be a challenge. I have dabbled a bit in mileage runs (but not to the extremes that some folks take - yet!) but mostly rely on long-haul flights to get my miles. Looking forward to getting some good suggestions and recommendations from the FT regulars, for all things flight-related. -JimG |
Hey all, I'm a business traveler primarily. UA is my main carrier and this year my job has kept me hopping. I made Platinum by the middle of September and I'm headed to 1K. This is up from Gold last year.
I'm a novice as far as making MRs but I'm trying to learn. Brand new to the forum, as you can tell. Cheers! |
Hello Everyone, I joined FlyerTalk in August this year after finding myself clicking on many flyertalk links in my twitter feed ! I'm primarily a business traveler although i also indulge in at least one if not two leisure trips in a year. I also mix a little pleasure with business by going for hikes if i have a day/weekend free during a business trip. I'm KrisFlyer Gold and Skywards Silver (hoping to make gold soon) and Mariott Gold.
I'm hoping to learn as well as contribute whatever i can, looking forward to interacting with many of you. Regards, -- RAV1 |
My business travel pattern is never consistent, loads in one year and very little the next. That will show next year when some of my elite memberships expire.
While I lose some elite status that also means I have more time for my family. Anyhow, my leisure travels is what I enjoy most... |
Howdy. I live Texas with my wife, 5 teenagers (Brady bunch) and 2 Labradors. I've had periods of lots of travel and no travel. This year its been lots of travel. I'm Platinum with Marriott, Exec Elite with National Car Rental, Gold with UA and will likely hit platinum before the year is out with my overseas trip. This year I've had lots of close trips due to a company we bought, plus trips to Spain, Panama, Peru and Canada. Coming up I have Argentina, Chile, China and Spain, Canada and continued close trips. I probably won't be home again for a full week this year except maybe the holiday weeks.
Combine that with the fact that my wife travels about 40% of the time, it gets rather interesting on how we keep the teens from burning the house down when we are both gone. :( There are two 13 year old girls, two 15 year old boys and a 17 year old boy. He'll be going to college next year. His sisters hope he chooses a school far far away so they can get their own rooms. :p |

Welcome everyone!!

I'm a student and fly between MEL and LHR, I have been reading flyertalk for ages and finally decided it was time to join the conversation. In the 19 years i've been alive, I have been very lucky to have done as much flying as I have. (ruffly 1/3 million, maybe a bit more)

new member
I travel for leisure only but do squeeze in a fair amount of trips a year.
(11 trips so far this year and 2 more coming up in December). I travel in Europe, by plane or train. I am a member of SAS eurobonus (basic) and mainly fly SAS but also use Norwegian, Lufthansa, Austrian and recently BMI. Trainwise I mainly use Deutche Bahn ( German Rail ), SJ ( Swedish Rail ) and DSB ( Danish Rail ). My main hotel chain is Hilton where I am Gold. I am Silver with Marriott. In places where Hilton/Marriott does not have any hotels/ not many hotels I use/ have used Nordic Choice Hotels, Scandic hotels, Elite hotels, Radisson Blu and Accor hotels. I have been reading Flyer Talk for a while as a visitor. Decided to join as I have an issue with windows (must have opening windows) and this forum seemed a good place to ask for information if ever needed. I will of course also contribute where I can. |
Hello all, I'm in my early 20's business traveler primarily, but I do try and sneak a few leisure trips in here and there. Based in Sunny San Diego.
I look forward to being a member of this community. Combined across all the airlines and trips I've taken I have over 2mm (My father jokes that I was issued 2 things at birth, my birth certificate and my AAdvantage number) I'm proud of the fact that I made AA Plat in 2.25 months |

This is not a big-brotherish request - it's more that I am interested to see where people are/what they do/what activities thrill them, and some are very mysterious blanks... Jim_B is somewhere in South America? auh2o has an interesting name, but what sort of mind comes up with that handle? pjaucutt provides all sorts of information, but seems to spend more time in Paris than at a university in Wisconsin, Jetdillo has a job which allows him the opportunity to critique BA's stewardesses outfits... Many of the regular contributers change their profiles regularly (and perhaps those who don't should dust theirs off?) Mine may seem strange, but it is all true... |
United /LX transfer between frequ.flyer accounts
:)dear friends, i travel the world for over 40 years and still have not had enough. And i am still learning everyday of new approaches and successes of your members. Currently i am looking for advice to either transfer some of my Lx points to my united account as benefits under united are much better..and maybe i then still use code sharing codes when flying Lx...am i dreaming? I can move your question to the LX sub-forum but unfortunately it is not possible to transfer LX miles to your United account. However, you can collect United miles when flying on LX in future. Depending on how many LX (strictly speaking Miles & More) miles you have, it might be possible to suggest the best way of using them. If you want to ask in more detail I suggest you post your question in the Miles & More forum. |
This is my first post and fly in and out LAS have been GM on DL for the last couple of years. Looking at making a MR to Jamaica to get to PM this year. Look forward to read new experiences and share my own.

presenting.. me! purduephotog
Never having written an introduction before I feel compelled to do so tonight, on Halloween.
My name is Jason and I travel for work. Pretty much solidly United to AF sites and a few others, I go where asked to and try not to whine too much. I have two munchkins, 3 and 5, I absolutely hate leaving behind, and an incredible wife that watches them and ours while I work wherever. Chemist, chemical engineer, programmer and other areas ... I'll try not to be annoying, but no guarantees. Jason |
Welcome to FT, Jason.
Look forward to hearing from you. Make sure to check out the Travel Photography forum here. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/travel-photography-629/ |
Hello everyone,
Was a lurker for a while (even after joining) but have kept a closer eye on the board lately and joined in to a few of the discussions. I don't like to put out a whole lot my personal info on a public forum, but: I live in Ontario, Canada and work in broadcasting, mostly focused on sports but also have my hand in some other aspects of the industry (my username gives some of that away). I travel all over North America for work and pleasure. I'm not somebody who spends triple-digit nights a year in hotel rooms by any means - I may push 50 in a busy year. My work and personal travel takes me across North America at various times of the year, most flights originate at DTW. If I have an opening in my schedule and find a good deal, I have no problem grabbing a last minute flight to go catch a sporting event. For example, one day in 2012, I drove to DTW, flew to DEN, rented a car, went to a ballgame, back to DEN, drop off the rental, flew back to DTW and then drove home. Thank goodness there wasn't a bad flight delay or rainout! |
I have been too busy on travel to post much lately. Just recaptured 1K status on UA, and Hilton Diamond for the first time. Hilton sent me a pack of playing cards. So far nothing from UA except the upgrade certs in my account. Have been keeping a close eye on the SFO National Car posts. That's an active location where they are frequently running out of cars. I will be back there next week.....
My biggest challenge of late on travel is to keep from gaining weight. The last week-long domestic trip I took on a "take no prisoners" attitude and did a long workout every morning and bought food at local supermarkets rather than relying exclusively on restaurants. Came back 1 lb lighter on the scale.... also fortunately I was not at LAX today where they had a shooting. |
My information
My name is Melanio Talle,
Place: Phillipines thank you for accepting me here in FlyerTalk..:) |
Nice discussion on flying, I just want to say this right now

I live in Chicago with my 5 year old son and husband. I am the owner and operator of a commercial real estate firm. My hobby is collecting miles and points of which we've amassed 1.5 M since Feb of this year.
An interesting facts about me is that I hold citizenship and passports for 3 countries (very Jason Bourne!). Our motto is "earn 'em and burn 'em". Burn 'em we have! Washington DC May 2013 Yosemite Natl Park in June 2013 Florida to the Westin Diplomat at Christmas Miami beach long weekend Jan 24, 2014 Naples,FL - Feb. 2014 Thailand in March 2014 Rocky Mountain Natl Park in June 2014 Italy - Corsica and Sardinia August 2014 |
My name is Carl and I help to build one of two types of aircraft (types according to a quote attributed to Doyle "Wahoo" Nicholson, USMC). While I fly in airliners I love piloting smaller aircfaft. To fly in airliners more effectively, I am joining the ranks here. Lots to learn.

Hi everyone. My name is Ming Wu. Have been a lurker around here for many years but never really had a chance to join in the community chatter, thought I might give it a try.
I'm a small business owner, dealing mainly in aluminum extrusions. I fly mostly to Asia for work. Currently living in Pacifica, CA, but also commute back and forth to NYC where I have an office. Looking forward to posting my 2nd post! |
Hello! My name is Alex. I grew up outside of Chicago, and am now going to school in St. Louis. After years of being fortunate enough to travel on my parents miles, I'm now starting to find my own way around the world (but now lucky enough to start acquiring PQMs!).
I'm still a travel newbie, but I've qualified for UA silver this year, have a few travel CCs (Sapphire Preferred and MP Explorer), and am looking forward to many more years of world travel. I'll be studying abroad in London early next year, and am looking forward to traveling Europe extensively (though upset about United's new anti-Star Alliance policies...but that's for another thread). I have loved reading flyertalk for over a year now, and am thankful that I found this awesome community! |
Reading back couple pages of this incredibly long thread, I noticed how everyone has such rich travel experiences and stories to tell. My travelling is usually pretty dull and uneventful, maybe I'm doing it wrong? :p

Hi All, I am Martin from Melbourne, Australia. I am pretty new to the whole travel addiction thing, and especially the online community - only really starting to frequently travel in April this year.
At the moment I am working my way through all of Australia, (after europe in 2010 and Japan in 2006), with plans to do Asia in 2014 & USA in 2015. All of my travel is self funded leisure travel, and mostly done on weekends - flying in after work on a friday and home on a Sunday afternoon. I started travelling to basically check out the nightlife and clubs in other cities so the weekend work well for me. Once I got seriously into travel early this year, I then discovered all the loyalty programs etc - I managed to hit silver in a few months, and am on gold in a few weeks, with platinum on the cards for April next year. I prefer Virgin Australia as my airline, Accor as my hotel chain and Avis as my car rentals - mostly because of excellent corporate rates made available to me through work. I signed up for FlyerTalk after one of your regulars, Bill, told me all about Oz Fest as the last AFF drinks in MEL. Once I saw him post up the detials on AFF I knew I would regret not instantly signing up, and I am very much looking forward to Oz Fest #11. I also know this site is going to be an AMAZING asset to me while I plan my USA trip in 2015. Cheers guys and I hope to meet some of you at Oz Fest! |
Hello to all. My name is Lance. I live in Puerto Rico most of the year and also spend time in Arkansas. My flying is mainly on Delta between San Juan and Little Rock.
Because Delta has so many flights in and out of San Juan, I started from scratch with Delta in March 2012 after being with US Air for many years flying in and out of our former home in St Thomas, VI. I'm a Platinum Medallion member with Delta and work hard for the upgrades for the three and a half hour flight between SJU and ATL. I've enjoyed reading this forum and look forward to contributing now as a member. |
