Hi, I'm Su. :) Originally from Mumbai, India, currently living in South Carolina. I've been a "lurker" on these forums for a few weeks now, finally just got around to registering. Fairly new to the business traveling thing, I recently took a job that has me on the road 95% of the time. I work in hospitality, installing property management software at sites across North America. I look forward to being an active part of this fantastic community!

Hi my name is Jimmy and I hear Flyer talk through a video (sorry I forgot the video's name). Glad to be here. I am now 6k mileages to go to get United 1K this year. I am BOS-based flyer.

Hi All. I'm Cat from Gladstone, Queensland, Australia. I'm a newish member of Australian Frequent Flyer and like Martin (post #2958) I joined FT to attend Oz Fest #11. It will be my first visit to the Red Centre.
I moved to Gladstone from Newcastle, New South Wales, for work a couple of years ago and started my Qantas Frequent Flyer Membership at that time. I do about 6-8 business trips (mainly to TSV) per year and the rest is self-funded leisure. There's a fair bit of that, as the best thing about Gladstone is the airport! I narrowly missed out on Gold last membership year and made sure it won't happen again this year. I qualified Gold last Friday, and have enough bookings for the rest of my year to see me to Platinum. I have already learned quite a few tricks from AFF and I'm sure there'll be plenty to glean from this site as well. |
Hello, I am Kare from LAS. I have been following this website for awhile. Decided to join in order to gain more information / insight about a upcoming trip to China in April I am planning. Was at one time 100k with AA but used it on trips to the Caribbean. Now sitting at 35k with United. Flyer talk and its members have really been a inspiration for me and my future travel plans.

Hi, my name is Suzy. I love to travel to new places to experience different cultures. I am about to embark on my first mileage run to gain 1K status with United. I planned the MR before the United devaluation announcement came out. I am now regretting the decision a little bit. Oh well, we all live and learn.

Hi, nice to meet you all,
Just joined this venerable forum - this thread alone goes back to 1998! My name in real life is Kiat and I live in England. Here's a bit about me. * my username "gr1nch" has a geeky origin because I had a laptop with hostname "xmas" and I chose the IRC nick "grinch" which seemed appropriate (!), then that evolved on external sites to gr1nch as grinch was usually taken. * I much prefer to fly BA although at one, crazy, point in my life I was on about 10 frequent flyer programs with not enough points on any to get to the next status. Rationalizing to one program made me saner and based in the UK the natural choice was BA, which are generally good with excellent staff, though the leadership there currently isn't taking it in the right direction. I tend to fly BA most places. Status is currently Silver but was Gold last year for the first time. I like the BA lounges but then, I've rarely been in any others to compare. * the airports I've flown to (mostly for work) a lot are Americas : SFO, NYC, RDU, Asia : PVG, BOM, BNE Europe : ZRH, DUB, ORK That's it from me. Looking forward to learning more, being entertained by and contributing to the forums. Cheers, gr1nch |

Hi all,
My name is Ilja, 23, from the Netherlands. I spend my free time and money as much as I can on travelling. I studied in the US for 6 months and visited Canada on sereval occasions. I've also travelled to Brazil, Japan and most of Europe. I really hate the business of plane tickets. With my subscription, I'm trying to get more insight on how they operate and how I can take advantage of the system. Cheers! |
Hi everyone!
I'm Anna from Italy. I live in Naples and I love travel everywhere. I visited many cities in Europe and I stayed 3 times in USA, once in NY and then in 2 different on the road trips that was wonderful. I wish I would travel more than actually and I hope you could help me! |

I've not come here yet despite being registered on FT since 2009.
I'm timmy83 - I'm a young professional in healthcare who travels mostly for fun, but enough for work to care about what the airlines and hotel chains do. I live in the midwest and love to visit new places Prior to being involved in FT, I flew whatever airline and stayed wherever. I'd been to Portugal once and Italy twice, then I learned some tips to travelling and have now been to the Maldives, China, Singapore, and will be going to Amsterdam, Bruges, and Paris in the next month. I've flown first or business class more than I ever expected and learned a ton from these boards! Cheers! |
Hi everyone, roadwarrier here. Yes, it is a strange way of spelling it, but when I registered on another forum yonks ago, I had a bit of "funny finger' syndrome, so the spelling error remained.
Anyhow, I am based in Johannesburg, South Africa and my working territory covers Africa, Europe, the Middle East and, whne needed, the CIS region. Sadly though, travel has been curtailed a bit, so my trips are limited, but as long as I keep my FF cards at Gold, I am happy. I lurked for many years before registering, and have learnt a lot from here and often drool over some of the Trip Reports. So I hope to be able to make one or two contributions that will assist someone else. |
HI !
I am Jacob. My interest is in economics and I love travelling. I works for a travel company as a higher member in management to get partnership fro other countries. I works to connect two countries though the travel with tourists. Many time I also acknowledge with guides to explore the beauty on the earth. |
I've been posting here for a while now but I haven't properly introduced myself. Shame on me, sorry about that. Let's make up for it.
I was once born in The Netherlands. I've moved all over Europe since, so 'where I lay my hat, that's my home' quite applies to me. Most of my stuff is based somewhere near OSL nowadays. I also have a bed there I can use... I travel a lot, both for business and for pleasure. I've been all over the world, visited dozens of countries and thousands of cities and places on 5 continents. The weird part is that I don't like flying that much. At least, not anymore. Especially not in Economy. Part of that is because I'm flying too often (almost 200 legs in 2013), part of it is because of very bad experiences (I'm allergic to KLM now, Lufthansa also leaves a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth) and part of it is becuse I'm getting more and more used to business class (only recently got allowed to fly that from my employer) and 5 star skytrax airlines (yes, I'm spoiled sometimes). What's most attractive for me in traveling nowadays is discovering new places on this planet, preferrably in a luxury setting. For those interested, my most frequented airports this year (including transfer airports): OSL, FRA, ZHR, VIE, MUC, AMS, JFK, SIN, DXB and PRG. I'm part of quite some FQTV-programs, although I'm only succesful in M&M as Senator (will drop it due to recent regulation changes) and EuroBonus (made it to gold this year to my surprise). As you may notice, I'm quite a StarAlliance guy. For hotels, I'm part of many programs, although most hotels always seem to find a way to tell me my stay isn't applicable for points, points cannot be transferred or my points cannot be used for the things I like. And I never seem to have enough points either. Doesn't matter, I'll survive. At least it gives me some extra shiny cards to break the ice on boring birthday parties or so... What I'm doing here? Two things. First of all, there's still some Dutch left in me, so I looove coupons, discounts, chances to win and other freebies. Searching the net for such things actually made me find this place. Furthermore, as I do travel a lot, flying and hoteling have become a significant part of my life. I'm hoping to find some people here who know the feeling, who understand some of my frustrations about too much traveling and who can give me some tips or new points of view on some of the matter. And if I can help others with my (extensive) travel experience, then I'd be happy too. :) |
Name's Derek, living between SMF and RNO in the Sierras of northern California. Travel about 50% for work (mostly international to Europe and domestic to Florida and Missouri) and 50% for pleasure/family reasons (all over the globe, plus to family in NYC and RDU areas). I'm employed in the biotech industry and in addition to traveling, enjoy fishing, golf in my limited free time. We own a small ranch here in CA, so that consumes a lot of my time that isn't spent at the office or on a plane.

My First Post
Hi All,
I was looking for the perfect thread to make my first post here, so thought I may as well introduce myself. I am new to travelling (recently caught the bug), but love the idea of visiting new places, & I always look to learn new things. I will be looking for advice from more seasoned travellers (hope that is ok), and will contribute wherever I can to help others. Hope this is ok, look forward to speaking to you again soon. Happy Trails. |

Hello all,
I am currently a student based in Norwich and call London (Surrey) home. I travel when I can, but am laying off in third year to make the most of my remaining uni time. In my spare time I like to swim and play tennis (to a very beginner level). Hope that gives a bit of background. I've been avoiding joining Flyertalk for quite a while so I don't spend too much time on flights stuff. . . but have finally given in! Mrblanco |
Who we all are
Hi All!
I have been poking around the forums for quite a while, and I decided to join the site a few months ago. I am a journalist for Airways magazine and the aviation news site Airchive. Next Fall, I plan to begin pursuing a business degree at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. I am sort of a frequent flier, but I wish I flew a lot more. There are so many places to see. Can't wait to chat with you! Jack |
I am new one in this forum

New Member
Hey guys,
New member here... I've been looking around and getting lots of information for the past couple months. I figured now would be as good time as any to join and hopefully contribute to the community. I end the year only flying 15 segments on UA (main airline), these miles were mostly for work but with my United Card I have established just under 100k miles. I also made Marriott Silver Elite this year which I don't see to much benefit from but is nice to have I guess. Compared to some of you my status/miles is lacking but I enjoy traveling and figured I can continue to learn from everyone on here. Going forward, I'll be reading up on AA as I currently reside in CLT, moving just recently from IAH. |
Hello,
I feel little ashamed, that I didn't introduce myself in the last year as a frequent reader of Flyertalk and frequent participant of many FT Do's. I work in the IT industry, providing Business Intelligence for banks. I needn't travel on my job, so I'm fully concentrated on leisure travelling. Based in Stuttgart, Germany, normally I travel a lot on LH and LX, but switched a little bit to BA and oneworld, because they do have better prices and a good connection out of Stuttgart. I prefer longhaul flights and escapes over a long weekend. See you at another Do (probably the Japan Do in April) or in any lounge of Star Alliance or Oneworld for a drink. Cheers, Claudi |
Sorry for not introducing myself earlier as I am FT reader and quite lazy poster (mostly on Miles & More forum) for a while here.
I am Finance / Banking IT Consultant frequently traveling and already for almost 2 years living between RIX and NAS. Mostly traveling on AC, LH, UA and AA for short hops between MIA and NAS. This year made LH SEN jumping up from LH FTL earned last year. Most frequent airports - RIX, FRA, MIA, NAS, sometimes YYZ or EWR and before used to frequent also WAW and LCA. Some may say I am crazy to frequent 2 one of the most dreaded airports in many FTer opinion, but I do not find them very bad :D |

back in the FT saddle again (again)
Well, I just posted in the New Member Roll Call thread before I saw this one. I'm not a new member - joined in 2008 - but haven't been active in far too long. Glad to be diving back into the FT pool. I've missed the events, the do's, the learning, the traveling and most of all, the community.
I'm based in PHX but planning to relocate to SYD in the new year. That gives me the opportunity to take whatever little bits and pieces of info I've learned from FT over the years and apply them to a whole new situation. That will be an adventure and I'm looking forward to it. ALIEF |

Hello!
Hey!
I hope that I am posting this in the right place. My name is James and I've done a lot of travelling over the years and I quite often find myself on this forum from search results when looking things up about flying or going away somewhere, so alas I decided to join the community! I look forward to chatting with you all! Thanks James |
Hello James & welcome.

hi. i havent flown on a plane since i was 8... but I will someday.

In response to your comment about more user info, my name is Max_danger, and I spent 225-250 days a year on the road. Previously lived in Tokyo for a long time, before moving back to the States when my daughters headed to high school. Despite my US base, I am responsible for all of our business activities throughout Asia. As a result, I spend a lot of time moving between, Japan, Korea, China, HKG, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Taiwan and India. I have been adhering to this life for 24 years. While it often sucks not being closer to home, if I do not like it I had better find a new career fast! At the same time, I have had to the chance to see a lot of the world, from Ushuaia, Argentina, to Thule Greenland, to Vladivostok Russia, to Pau, France to Rio Branco, Brazil and everything in between. The biggest challenge is to find interesting, exciting and practical ways to make weekends enjoyable memorable while visiting the same cities on a regular basis, and while also going to new cities. The new cities are easy. Going shopping is boring. One thing has been to take up distance running and tennis. One, it is a great way to stay in shape, an interesting way to see a city, something to plan, and a way to meet interesting people. Second, they do not require a lot of gear. For the running, I plan my hotels to be near parks and good areas for running (safe), and at the same always looking for new areas in the same cities. There is a whole nother world in most cities early in the morning (try Lumphini Park in Bangkok). Tennis has also been great. When I am in a city for a weekend, I try to book a hotel that has a tennis court or access to a tennis court. Then I call the athletic desk and ask for a hitting lesson with the pro or if they have a member that wants to play (most hotels have private club attached to their athletic facilities). This has provided regular games, and a great way to meet interesting people in a city.

My bio
My name is Lane Thomas, i am sixty two, married and have nine grand children. I normally fly two or three times a year to catch a cruise ship. I am currently planning a trip to London to attend a convention and since I have never been there before I will take a vacation.

An intro...
Hello! I'm almost childishly excited to join FT. Hesitant for a while but today I jumped in with confidence!
I'm a husband, father of 2, live in NYC and travel frequently for work (bank). I'm just beginning to truly understand the power of miles and the neat ways to maximize how much I can earn for things I do anyway (fly, shop, etc.) I'm in serious awe of some of the more experienced posters' knowledge and am psyched to up my 'game'. Hopefully I can share a few valuable nuggets here and there as well. |
I joined a while back but am finally getting into the fun and games of it all. Made it to Madrid and Montreal this year, Puerto Rico and Budapest on the books for next year!
|
hello~ Actually I posted in the intros over at miles & points but seems that this one is more "well known" I'll repost it here instead~
I guess I'm probably one of the younger(est?) members on the site at 15, but I've actually been reading flyertalk since I was 12... lol. My name is Evan, I'm from Singapore, and I fly much less than most people here. In fact I fly so little I only just manage to retain my frequent flyer membership. Most of this is due to the fact that I'm obviously 15 and I don't have enough money to go flying about any time I want and I have massive school commitments (study, council) that prevent me from doing so... and I also have a very spoilt 6 year old sis who complains wherever she goes and in doing so spoils the entire trip. I fly very little so I always try to treasure every moment of flight and am a big fan of collecting airline menus. I planespot frequently at my home airport (SIN) but do go to Seletar occasionally to see more "interesting" aviation. However as I grow older and earn my own cash (hopefully) I do hope to fly and travel more without the hassle of bringing a ridiculous number of overweight baggage along as my family always do when we get on a plane. Actually I used to be a nervous flyer but as an aviation enthusiast now I understand everything around me so it's much better but turbulence still makes me nervous and paranoid. As for FF miles... lol... I'm happy that I can retain my membership. That's all. I do enjoy reading about them though (good preparation when family decides I am finally old enough to travel alone) and fantasising about having a whole wallet of gold cards. Favourite airline... CX. I do not like SQ, I have bad memories with them when I was young, and feel that CX service is more "real" (SQ FAs look, and act, like robots). I think that's all now haha it's great to be part of this community (: |
Exited to exchange travel tips and hear from my fellow travelers. I am frugal and extravagant at the same time, so any and all kind of travel is appealing to me. I am a nurse in Henderson Nevada (just outside of Vegas), and love to cook, hike, swim and experience a good nights sleep.
