I haven't attended one of these before, but if it is somewhere in the district (or otherwise near metro) I would love to attend and put some faces to these usernames!

TrojanHorse, for the monthly gatherings, we've tended to have them close-in to be central for people coming from all parts of the metro area. I don't think the Dulles area would be convenient for the bulk of attendees.

I myself am Metro-dependent, and I think a while ago we established that the location should be Metro-accessible, so Danski, you shouldn't have trouble getting there.

Danski and Trojan Horse, I hope you can both make it! Take care, and enjoy this great weather!!

I knew it would have to surface sometime. Next time I'll go with the whole coat, hat, and boa.

I can get us a private room at Ozio (martini bar/restraunt) on 2/12. I think it's a perfect place for this, and it appears we don't have an offical location.

Ozio is on 18th and M st (at the Connecticuit intersection).

Someone give me the green light and I'll book it.

I'd say, for lack of Maryland input (or MD knowledge on my part), if there's no objection, let's try out Ozio. It's on the red line, so MD people will have easy access.

davrodrg, thanks for the offer!!!

I do not know if this is appropriate on this page, but I am making my first trip to DC at the end of this month and would like to get some info about what are must sees in the area. I have booked a capital tour with my senator as well as a Supreme court tour, BEP tour and Library of Congress tour. We plan on seeing Mt Vernon and the Smithsonian. Is there anything else that is a must see?

So what time? 6:30 for dinner and early arrivals can meet at the bar?

Well... the monuments: Jefferson, Lincoln, Washington... but maybe that goes without saying. FDR monument is pretty interesting, too. Korean War Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Leave about a half day to walk among the memorials listed above-- and do it on a day when the weather is nice.

Of the Smithsonians, the Air and Space Museum is a must-see.

Arlington Cemetary has a changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier every hour on the hour, and the cemetary is open until about 5. You can see the JFK Eternal Flame, and also the monument to Women in the Military.

The Iwo Jima/Marine Memorial is nice to look at, and gives a great view of DC.

Know that Mt. Vernon closes a little early: I think the last entry is at 4, and you have to leave by 5.

Hope this helps!!

Confirmed Ozio at 6:30pm 2/12 for dinner. We have the separate, upstairs, part of the dinnig room. Those coming early can have happy drinks at the first floor (reserved 2nd table on the left).

FYI, no parking on the street until 6:30pm. Email me with any specific questions. Reservation's under: Washington Flyers.

See you there,
David

David, this is wonderful planning!!! As a new member to the FT community, you sure jumped in with all fours!

Thanks so much for setting this up. I look forward to meeting you on Wed.

Happy to do it, I book lots of things in the DC and Tysons area.

So who's in? Please RSVP via post or email.

-------------

USAir Chairman's Perferred just switched loyalty to NW (currently Gold). Stay at Hiltons (Gold) and Marriot (always a Silver).

I like Ozio a lot. It's only a block from my office, but unfortunately it is 5 1/2 hours from where I am currently working. I hope to catch y'all at the next Happy Hour (DCA maybe?).
