I'd like to put down a vote for Valdez. I have been to Denali twice in previous DOs. Would be nice to mix it up, especially since I have heard some nice thing about Valdez.
I think by popular demand it is decided that it will be Denali, even though I personally don't prefer that for the reasons you mentioned.

We will be doing Valdez one of these days. It's a little much to plan for for this year, though. Denali is easy: we go up there, we get on Seat 2A's bus, and we see a crap-ton of animals.

But these things aren't yet set in stone, if you know what I mean.

If we can get on Seat 2A's bus that would be awesome

Since I get in too late to join for Denali (midnight Saturday), I was also thinking Valdez, or even a drive up to Talkeetna and doing a flightseeing trip from there.

I will be in MSY for a trade show, getting home just in time for the DUT portion. Denali should be awesome that time of year, but be prepared to battle the last minute crowds near the end of the season. Bring your galoshes (will be needed) and bug dope (just in case).

Enjoy

I can't find the Tempranillo you left here. I will see what Airfield has on offer on Sunday

I went to Denali last year Labor Day weekend - it was indeed fantastic, the fall colors were beautiful and the weather was good (which may or may not repeat this year of course). Even saw McKinley!

Take that as a vote of confidence in you that he doesn't want to lose you. I'd say your prospects for job security are fairly high.

As for the crash, it's terribly sad. I don't know anything about Promech Air. I'm sure the story will develop further as time goes on.

I do. I flew my 926 flight with them on the exact plane. I flew out of WFB -Ketchikan Harbor Seaplane Base round trip and landed in a lake in the middle of nowhere July 5th 2014. Absolutely awe inspiring. They (Promech) are a good little company and this is an awful tragedy. (I was on an NCL cruise Anchorage - Vancouver).

Understandable.

Any details on the hotels and other arrange for the before and after portions? I may decide to skip the before portion. In any case, I am hoping to decide and book flights soon.

As for Denali and that, I just finished up a stretch of insane travel and event planning and all kinds of things. I'm taking a few more days of "me" time before settling back into a normal routine, at which point I can focus on something beyond just the next week.

I am so sorry that we will miss this event. We are on an Alaskan cruise that arrives in Whittier on August 26th. Our flight back to Georgia leaves Anchorage the evening of August 29th.

This sounds like an awesome DO!
